My 7th revision surgiversary recently passed and I wanted to provide a small update.
Everything is still humming along nice and calm. Weight is stable, habits are set and I am not complaining. I am grateful that life is uneventful and feels completely normal.
I haven’t taken many photos these days but here’s a few including my birthday cake. Cheers to another year!

I have been very open about the fact that I have had surgery and I would go back and do it again tomorrow if I had the opportunity, I feel that is a way to normalize it and to beat the stigma. Honestly, I have had a really good experience with that. I had one woman at the gym who I think thought I was trying to discount my own progress by saying that I had surgery and she told me that didn’t matter, I looked great and to keep up the good work. I’m always ready to tell folks that it’s a full-time job being a bariatric patient and that I’m not just sitting around watching my stories and eating chocolates and losing weight. I’m sure to let anyone know that I have to show up every day, be mindful about what I eat, and be extremely deliberate about my activity. I know when I first decided on surgery I believed that I would be eating my dinner out of medicine cups for the rest of life so I can kind of understand where someone who has never struggled with their weight or someone who just has a bad attitude about the whole thing might not understand what it all entails.

My hunger never left. I'm a year and a half post op and can't stop eating. I'm gaining again. The hunger never left and the behaviours haven't changed and I can't get any mental health help. I was so happy six months ago when I was finally below 30 BMI and now I'm back up to 31 BMI

Hi Renee & welcome! I was the original poster of this topic three years ago. Everyone is different but be prepared for the haters! Sometimes people NEED a reason on why you've been successful at loosing weight and maybe they haven't. People are quick to say you cheated or you only lost weight BECAUSE of XYZ, (surgery, GLP1, etc) Some people will discredit your hard work almost to make themselves feel better. "She only lost weight because she had surgery" "She didn't loose it naturally" Loosing weight will make people around you insecure. Some of my biggest cheerleaders in the beginning turned into my biggest critics after the weight came off. People find security in you being bigger then them. I was the fat friend, now I'm smaller then most of them and it makes them insecure. People who once praised me have the nerve to make comments like "I hope this doesn't turn into an easting disorder" Just be prepared for some people to possibly be disappointing.

That is really good to get in that head space. BUT, keep your inner circle small. Their opinions will hurt the most.

I too want to say, I am sorry you have gone through so much. There are a few people active on here who have had the extra bypass surgery. If you can bear to wait, you will get the answers you need. Everyone works and we don't always come on here every day

It depends on who does the asking. If the person is overweight and asking a genuine question then they get the truth. Others are just plain nosy and would not be very complimentary when they added it to their daily gossip. I didn't tell anyone but my husband and son at first. Then added my bff from school and they were happy for me. My other family, I have waited until I visited or bumped into them. Same again, I have told some, others meh, they don't need to know. It has worked for me.

Update.. I ended up in the hospital in HORRIBLE pain. Cat scan showed my intestines folding into itself like a telescope. Going for surgery July 9th to correct a hernia and "whirlpool swirling" of my bowels. Thankfully the pain went away when I was admitted into the hospital. Surgery was put to the back burner then because of another unrelated health concern had to come first. This could have contributed to my issues awhile back.

Scheduled for surgery July 9th. My surgeon is concerned my intestines way twist up again. He said there was likely alot of fat surrounding them before and now they are free flowing and moving around too much. He said three small cuts and a couple small stitches internally. They are almost considering it like a hernia repair he said even though it is categorized as a revision surgery. I fully trust his decision and am not too worried.

It took me two years to get where I was happy with my weight and size. Don't give up hope yet. Occasionally people have had to lower their expecations of goal weight but lots of us have smashed it. Keep your nerve and carry on, you have this.
