  1. I am 14 months out and having the same feelings. I have so far been able to prevent regain but no loss in awhile. I know I am not holding myself accountable and keep telling myself I will get back on track. I am trying to take small steps toward eating better so it feels more like the norm and not dieting. I am happy at the progress I have made even with the long stall. I still feel great.

    Hiatal Hernia?

I had my hiatal hernia repaired with my sleeve surgery, but did not have an extra incision. That might differ by doctor. I had an upper GI years before my surgery that showed the hernia. They didn't redo the test before surgery, but the doctor said it was pretty substantial. I don't feel it added to my healing time or pain. I had horrible reflux issues prior to surgery and now they are completely gone. I think this has everything to do with getting the hernia fixed. I went through insurance and they did charge for the procedure so I had to pay the co-insurance for that procedure as well, but just the surgeon since the hospital, anesthesiology, etc charge just once no matter what they do once in there.

    Austin, TX surgeons.

I used them for my sleeve but dr Marquez. I had a great experience with everyone there. The staff is very nice and helpful.
  4. I am 3 weeks post op and just wanted to share this item that is helping me through the liquid and pureed part of the post op diet. Texas grocery store HEB has a milk brand Mootopia that had 12g of protein, 40% less sugar than regular milk per 8 oz and is lactose and fat free. I was really struggling to get my protein in right after surgery and using this in my protein shakes, soups and hot cereal really helps up the protein content. I also drink on its own when I just can't stomach anything else.

    Concerned

Doubtful you did anything to your staples. Vomiting after VSG is common when you eat too much, too fast or something that doesn't agree with your new stomach. If you start vomiting a lot or have any pains that won't go away or if you just don't feel right give your doctor a call. Some people vomit the day of surgery and there is no damage to the staples.

    Texas girls and vanity

I see shopping being fun now as a perk for sure. I didn't have any co-morbitities before surgery, yet anyhow, I was just morbidly obese. If you have a history of obesity and family history of it surgery can prevent future health issues. It is an investment in your future. As long as you have a clear understanding of the risks of surgery and feel the risk is worth it. Some people think woman who get their breasts removed because they have the gene and family history of breast cancer are crazy, but as someone with a family history of it, i completely understand.
  7. I had decided on RNY, but my surgeon saw that I had been on and off anti-inflammatories for a couple years. She said there was a high risk of ulcers at the point they connect the intestine to stomach if you take certain medications regularly. She suggested the sleeve, which I wasn't familiar with. I had seen it, but I had it stuck in my head that people weren't as successful with the sleeve. My surgeon said her patients had just as much success with weightloss with the sleeve. I did more research on it and was sold. The things I was worried about with RnY rerouting and malabsorption were not issues with the sleeve. I am so glad I got my sleeve over RNY!

    I just set my date!

Good luck with your approvals and continued journey! I know getting my surgery date really made it seem real to me.

I want to help my friends but i can't

Never worked for me. I don't know how you watch your portions without tracking and measuring. You need to measure at least a few times to figure out what a serving size is on most things. All you can do is suggest, hopefully they are successful. If not, maybe they will take your suggestions.

    Chewing

I had the same problem, still kind of do eat too fast sometimes. What helped me was counting each time I chew and then counting between bites. Start with a small number for your goal, then work your way up to more. After awhile, I was able to get used to it and ate slower without counting.

    Can I eat tuna?

Seems too early for tuna. I had to wait for tuna until my soft foods phase. At 2 weeks I was still on full liquids only.

    On a lighter side

Wow. I hope everyone is safe. Sorry this happened to you, so scary.
  13. Love this. This board helped me so much before and right after my surgery. I try to help at least two people a week with nonjudgmental hopefully helpful answers even though I risk being called an idiot (again). I want to give back what I got. We need the nice people on this thread to post more and get this back to a helpful place for VSG. I am glad others are looking for more positive and friendly people.

You are a rockstar! you look great.
  15. There is another thread with more info http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/65218-a-complication-they-didnt-tell-you-about-nerve-palsy-drop-foot/
  16. I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I do hope this is only temporary. Have you been having any troubles or symptoms of this since you were sleeved in July or did it just suddenly start one day? I cross my legs all the time now that I can! I am going to be sure to not do it for long periods of time. Thanks for sharing your story.

    Dark urine post-op

Are you taking any vitamins or other medications right now? If so look up the medicines online and read up if they change urine color. I have had some turn my urine odd colors. if not, get a urinalysis done to rule out any infection or other causes. 60 oz of water seems like it would be plenty of water to not have very dark urine but try drinking more for a few days and see if that helps.
  18. Agree with Catracks, you don't need to go back all the way to the beginning. Be sure you are getting your Water for sure. That helps a lot. You could also try Diva's bootcamp. I think many people have had luck breaking stalls and carb addictions with it. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/28139-the-basics-boot-camp/
  19. I originally was going to get bypass but since I needed to be able to take anti-inflammatory including NSAIDs my surgeon recommended the sleeve. She explained there was a high risk of ulcers where they attach the intestine to the stomach in bypass. I have taken Advil and prescription NSAIDs multiple times since surgery. I have had no issues. If you are in pain and it is not getting any better, keep pushing your doctor to look for a cause or go to another doctor. 8 weeks out seems far out to be in that much pain.

    Breathrough in bariatrics?

Wow, that thing looks so bizarre. It may also have a secondary effect of not wanting to eat after seeing half digested food several times a day. I don't want to judge too much as not every way to lose weight is right for every person, but this one feels more like an eating disorder to me (binge and purge).

    Can i eat crab dip

My post op instructions said no shellfish for 2 months (it may have been 3 months can't remember). I never did ask why, so I have no idea why to avoid.
  22. Be sure to let your nut know about your issues with sugar free. They may have some recommendations for you. I cannot stomach sugar free myself and it does create some challenges In my 2 week preop diet I could have no sugar so I just avoided sweet all together. Post up in liquids and mushies I did protein shakes with sugar and no added sugar fruit popsicles. I really just avoid sweets as much as I can since it adds a lot of carbs and cals when you can't do sugar free. I stick to more savory items, drink unsweet tea and coffee and fruit infused water. The sugar isn't going to hurt you or your stomach, but it will slow your weight loss if you have a lot.
  23. I have my wine or drink before my meal. Early out I would stick to nothing 30 minutes before, but now have no problems drinking right up to eating. I would suggest not drinking more than a sip or two while eating or right after. This still hurts my stomach and could flush out the food faster.

    Weird feeling

I had that feeling in my legs when I was on the pain meds. I would bring it up at your appointment to be sure it isn't something they would want to check out.
