Hi there! I had my first appointment with the surgeon today. I have a 3 month supervised diet to go through where I have to lose 17 pounds. I will also have to do labs, EKG, a meeting with a nutritionist, and the psych eval. Seems pretty standard. Looking forward to this new stage in my life. 3. Hi ladies, This is kind of a weird topic but my surgery is scheduled for 10/27/16 and I just got my period a couple of days ago so if I'm as regular as I've always been I'm scheduled to get my period the same day of surgery. Were any of you on your period or got your period while in surgery or in the hospital? How was it handled, what did the doctor or nurses tell you? I'm going to be so uncomfortable I want to cry! Any suggestions for me? Many thanks in advanced! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

My husband and I was making a decision on what to have for dinner, but I can't eat what he eats. I had an emotional breakdown. Started crying and telling him how hard it's been. He was complete understanding. Held me and let me cry it out. I'm so thankful for my support system. Heather Sacramento CA RYN 8/22/16

TODAY IS MY SURGIVERSARY!!! 97lbs lost!well wow what can I say? It's been quite a journey! The one thing I think i was unprepared for was the emotional/mental piece. It's not natural to see yourself in a state (at a weight/size) you've never been and then know how to deal with people's new reaction to you. I've been smaller before but never this small and it's a whole new world! Sleevers... What was it like? Well from surgery to liquid diets to pretty much seven months of working out five days a week. Low carb low sugar high fat high Protein diet to now. It wasn't easy. You can't just have surgery and sit around expecting to lose weight. You gotta work!! I reached "goa…

I just came from my pre-op appointment with the surgeon. I sat around in the waiting room for an hour after the appointment to try and get a surgery date but ended up leaving and got a call just now with a date of 10/18/16! Further out than I wanted BUT I'll take it - and it actually works better for work and gives me time to get my shit together. I found out that I actually need to do a 2 week liquid pre-op diet so that was something I didn't know about (thought I was one of the lucky ones). Pre-op liquid diet starts October 4th - 5 Meal Replacement shakes (Bariatric Fusion) and 3 Snacks (broth, sf popsicle, watermelon, sf jello). Yikes - I hope I can stay with i…

I'm just starting my journey. I have to loose 15lbs in 6 weeks. I feel like I did when I started high school: nervous, excited. I have so many questions about food, the process & afterwards. 10. I am 8 days post sleeve today. Last night, as I was making carnitas with all the fixings for my family, I was starting to feel a little sorry for myself and my current all-liquids-all-the-time diet. Then I started to focus on why I am doing this (perspective is everything!) and the fact that I want to do everything in my power to live as long and as healthy a life as possible. I want to watch my two young kids grow old. I watched them eat their carnitas and I savored every bite of my strained cream of chicken Soup. This morning I went to my primary care Dr appt and the scale read 217. That means that I have lost 36 lbs since I started this journey in August (and 11…

  17. And just like that it hit me, this is really going to happen. I started this journey prior to my birthday 9/25 in 2015. Im using an insurance from a beneficiary pension from my mother who passed away in 1996. I omitted the insurance awhile back because it was cheaper thru my job. None the less the process to add it back takes 6 months waiting so i started the waiting process just to use the insurance on 10/1/2015....until 4/1/2016. Scheduled my consult on 4/1/2016 with the surgeon, in which of course he recommended me for gastric sleeve surgery. Was advised i needed 6 months of nutritional visits..Completed all paper work, psych eval, orientation, and fitness eval by 9/20t…

  18. I am two weeks into my post op phase and I feel just awful all the time. I can't keep almost any food down and drinking anything, including Water and Protein, hurts my chest so bad I want to cry. I feel like I am slowly starving and am dizzy and shaking a lot. The only food I could even a little bit keep down is sauteed kale or mashed potatoes. Anything else I try I either throw it up or feel like it's stuck in my throat and I'm choking. And the heartburn is terrible on some days too. My surgeon said it's because I am eating too fast, but I am literally not eating almost anything. The other day it took me almost 3 hours to get down 2oz of applesauce and then I had debilit…

I recently wrote a blog post about my journey as a gastric sleeve patient and I wanted to share it with you all. My mother also had the same procedure done on the same day and I am 100% sure it saved her life. I had the surgery done when I was 29. I know that may seem like a young age to do it at, but after looking at the science of it all, it was definitely the right choice for me. Most of all, I'm thankful my mother did it. I know she's alive today because she did. Gastric sleeve may not be the right choice for everyone but it definitely was for my family. I don't think this will load pictures, so here's a link to my post: http://www.virtuousprom.com/my-journey-wi…

I'm pretty sur it's ain't heartburn or reflux as it happens the second I swallow the soup (or any hot beverage) but those noise are kind of embarrassing when there's people around. I can't be alone with that issue am I?

I had my RNY on Aug 26, 2015 and I have lost a total of 124 pounds thus far. I still have about 45 pounds or so to lose. I have experienced something I find a little odd and was wondering if anyone else had noticed it as well. The last time I was this weight I was two whole sizes bigger than I am now. I am actually smaller than my weight would indicate. I hate to admit it, but I rarely work out, just mainly walk a lot, so I can't really say it is muscle versus fat, since I am much older and whatnot. Does anyone have any insight into this? Don't get me wrong... I am loving it, just a little confused.

That make me so happy, the last time I was this weight was over 5 years ago. Every thing is way easier for me now, I'm not getting suffocated as I was a month ago, I am feeling wonderful. One day I would feel ok, the next horrible. I didn't go to my doctor for that reason. I'm the type of person that likes to fix things their selves. I don't like nothing people with my problems. So today I went to a wedding of a dear friend of mine. First off, I was able to find a awesome dress I could wear that didn't look like a mumu and, I discovered I fit into an 18/20. I've always been 26/28. Next, at the wedding I came across people I haven't seen in years. All kept commenting on how much weight I lost and how great I look in the dress. Let me mention that for the above listed mumu reason, I haven't put a dress on in about 10 years. It was always slacks and a blazer. I felt like a woman today. I felt pretty and playful and even caught myself flirting with people. This all before I've even had surgery. I honestly can't wait till I have my sleeve and be…

Feeling better today. First milestone is I was able to walk around the block - mind you I had to wear my ab binder for it but I'll take it. My liquid diet consists of lots of milk and I think this is where I am having gas problems. I had a milk intolerance pre surgery and surgery doesn't seem to have fixed that. NUT thought it would have but no joy. Hang on to those that are going through first week post op. You will have many ups and downs but at the end of the day I'm praying it will all be worth it.
