Hi everyone! Been a lurker for sometime and ohhh what an inspiration you all are! A little more than three weeks and I will have my VSG. Wondering if anyone elected to have your gall bladder removed during surgery or if you had problems soon after surgery that made it nessessary. I have chosen to go to Mexico with Dr. Selim Jalil Illan Fraijo through bariatricpal. Anxiously excited! Thanks in advance... Sent from my SCH-I545 using the BariatricPal App

I have a date 1/12/2017 for my surgery! I am so freaking frustrated how long it takes to get this done thru Kaiser SoCal. I went to orientation a year ago in October. I started the options classes in March ended in June. I complied with losing weight, lowering my AiC, cutting out diet soda, drinking Protein shakes and exercising. I have been putting off getting a job and going back to school. I just want it done! I know I sound whiney . I know I am not alone with the wait. I am tired of being fat and hating taking pictures. that's how I feel . I want to feel better and look better. Sent from my SM-T230NU using the BariatricPal App

i cant believe how much info this site has given me! Big thanks to all of you who are so eager to help and offer advice! When I turned 40, I declared this "My Year!!" I would do something for myself...and so far this has been my most selfish year ever! ha! I was always skinny as kid...very boney and lanky! My weight gain came on fast because I always thought I could lose it. Both my parent's passed away in 2004...and the pounds came packing on. Depression, bad choice of food, my love for pizza and my passion for a nice cold beer all caught up with me. I turned 40, I'm 5'3" and I weigh 265lbs! ugh! I always carried an extreme confidence....and ev…

Hi all so I had the lap band placed Jan of 2011. Slowly was getting fills each month trying to get to the "sweet spot". Got down to 220 from hw of 275. Well in Oct went in for my monthly fill and it ended up being to much but I could still eat some things so I was going to try and take it easy until my next apt in Nov 3 weeks latter. Well the Sunday before my apt I got so stuck I couldn't swallow my own silva. So to the ER I went and they did an emergency unfill of about 5 cc's. Went in that following we'd for my scheduled apt and they put 3 cc's back in now that the swelling had gone down. 2 weeks latter I get my bill for both ER visit and fill apt and my insurance did n…

I'm joining this awesome site from a far away land... haha just Australia but I like to be dramatic. I made my surgery date with my Dr for the 8th of October. When he first suggested this date I was so excited but now I've had a few hours to think about it the nerves are starting to come out. Im currently 165kg/363 pounds (I diffenatly like looking at my weight in kg, it seems less lol). I'm 30yr old and have CPTSD. I've used food as a coping strategy for dealing with abuse as a child, but through intensive therapy I finally feel I am at a place to tackle my weight problem. Slowly changing my habbits and attitudes towards food has helped but I feel the sleeve surger…

Today is the day. I wish I could say I am as calm as a cucumber but that is not the case. I have been preparing since Feb for this and am so ready for it. I just have that looming page of risks I had to initial in the back of my head now since last week which I always knew were the risks, but as it got close and I had to formally acknowledge them its got my nerves going crazy today. Praying for my peace of mind and guidance for my surgeon and anesthesiologist today. Also praying for everyone else going through surgery today too.

Hey everyone! I'm new here and my name is Nyalah I'm 22 years old / 5"5/ 283lbs. I've been heavy for most of my life and after trying nearly everything I've decided to go through with the vsg. All I have left to do before I go to get my surgery date is seeing a psychologist. I'm very excited, I've got amazing support from my family. Although my brother is a little scared of me going through with this. Even though I've got such great support at home, I thought it would be a good idea to meet other people going through the same things as me. I can't wait to share my journey with everyone and to hear other people's stories. [emoji3]

Hi everyone, I've finially hit the 3 month point! If you would of asked me the week of surgery where do I see myself in 3 months as far as weightloss I differently would of said more then 53lbs down I have no complaints about surgery! I thank god everyday that I am one of the lucky ones with NO complication :-) I know, I know 53lbs is nothing to be disappointed about but there's always a but with me. Everyday, I think am I letting my honeymoon stage pass by? Am I going to be one that just doesn't lose the weight? So many concerns. I have a ways to go (80 more lbs)!! Everyday is a new day Good luck Everyone!! Sent from my SGH-T999L using the BariatricPal App

I apologize for the length of this, but I'm so lost and need suggestions, support, or whatever you have: Before I decided to have surgery I weighed 500 pounds. I say that, but it could have been more. I know that was the biggest weight I was aware of, but I'd spent years telling the doctors not to tell me my weight. I had the gastric sleeve done in July of 2014. My surgeon had me lose some weight before he did the surgery and my surgery went well with no complications. My weight was coming off slow but steady, and by October of 2015 I was down to 299 pounds. That's when one of the only friends I had in the world passed away, and I didn't handle it well. I sto…

Complications since my surgery have been few and far between. I'm now almost 22 months post-op. I am in the process of divorcing my husband and have begun some casual dating. It's already been interesting navigating dating. I hadn't "dated" in probably close to 15 years... I am no longer in my 20's (I'm 37)... I am now much thinner and more attractive than I ever was in my previous dating periods... and I have my surgery preventing me from your normal kinds of dinner dates. So last night I was on a date. I hadn't told my date about my surgery, he just knows I eat Protein first and don't eat much at one time. So we were scheduled to go play Lasertron (fancy laser tag) an…

Well hello! I'm 1 year and 9 months out. Start weight 228, surgery weight 200, goal weight 135. New journey started in August of 2014. I was determined to make all requirements. I had got off sweet. No juice, no soda. Then I started walking around the block and lost weight. I had no idea how long I've been so big. Until I lost most my weight and saw the pictures, even my husband didn't realized how big I'd gotten until he saw the pics. "He said see love is blind." I have an awesome Husband and he told me how beautiful I was but in reality I wasn't happy with myself. Before surgery I quit smoking cold turkey. Do you know how hard quiting ciggs are? Thee worst addiction I…

Has anyone not received support from friends or family? My friend said I don't need the surgery and that all I had to do is go on a diet and exercise. I wish it was that easy I have 3 sons and 2 of them are totally against the surgery, my husband isn't too thrilled either. I feel as if I don't have any support. Really frustrating. It has been a while since I've been on here! I had gastric bypass on April 7, 2016. HW: 420 SW: 360 CW: 240 GW: 170-199 Honestly, I'll be so happy to get under 200 pounds. I have not been my current weight since middle school, so it feels great! But I know I have more work to do. Since I relocated back to my hometown of Brooklyn, NY I have been slacking!! For the past 6 months I have stayed between 230-240. I'm currently staying with my family and the added stress and their unhealthy lifestyle has held me in a rut. But I'm ready to reach my goal! Throughout the whole process exercise has never played a major role in my weight loss. So, now I joined …

Ugh this has been a long journey, I have been working on an approval since Feb 2016. Waited patiently for the surgeon to get off paternity leave and now my time is finally here. I was given a date of 11/3/2016 and a Pre-Op date starting on 10/18/16. I was so anxious and full of doubt and anxiety before I got the date, thinking of every possible horrible thing that could happen if I go through this. And now that I have a date I am more than ready for it! Bring it on! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I got my surgery date 10-3. I'm on the 2 week liquid diet half way through. A little about me. I'm 38 been over weight most of my life. January I decided no more...no more rollercoaster weight, diets. I was 340 at my heaviest a few years ago. I'd loose to 260 gain some back. Never under. Started this journey in January weighing 292lbs. Supposed to be 6 months, but in April diagnosed w/ uterine cancer stage 2 had to undergo a partial just in June and wait at least 3 months for bypass. In a little over a week I'll have my surgery. I'm excited, and nervous. Very few people in my life even know about this. Keeping it a secret has been a little hard. Sent from my 5054N using…

I am a 48 year old male, 6 feet tall, and now 198 lbs. I was overweight from 3rd grade on. My high weight was 455 pounds when I was 21. I dropped down to about 280 by my early 30s just from diet and exercise. I could never get much lower than that. I always rebounded up. At 307 I decided to get the sleeve. Now, a little over a year later I am finally below 200. First time since 5th grade! I am just trying to stay below 200 and focus on weight training, and exercise in general. Best decision ever. I only wish I could have done it about 15 years earlier. It was never covered by insurance until a couple years ago.

Dr. z the psych for Kaiser Richmond bariatric described my life perfectly. The day I got hurt at work was the day my life as I knew it was over. I died that day, the "me" I knew myself to be was gone forever. I worked At a corporate bank doing computer work, my wrists hurt my thumbs hurt and soon my neck would hurt too. Then one day couldn't lift my arms. Had gone to several doctors looking for answers, some said that I had fibromyalgia, others say CRPS. Either way I was unemployable. I was 24 years old. I fell into a depression, sleeping most of the day, eating candy and ice cream, French fries and diet soda (thinking that helped) but soon my body went from 150lbs …

I am 61 years old and I am almost 4 weeks out from my sleeve surgery. I have found that my age contributes to how fast I have been recovering. It is slow, but slow and steady wins the race. I have had wonderful family and friend support. This struggle for weight loss is a 25 year saga and I finally took a permanent step to a healthy life. I have to say that I was regretting my decision the first couple days home because of the pain and sickness. Then my friend convinced me to go back on my pain meds. What a relief. I stayed on them for 10 days and was able to recover comfortably and quicker. I am off the meds as of 10 days and each day gets better and better. I am bac…

It's my turn for the gastric sleeve tomorrow morning (8am). I feel nervous and weird... I started at my surgeons weightloss center on Jan 29th 2017. I am 5'9 and I weighed in at 271 pounds. This morning I weighed myself at 216 pounds, so I'm heading into surgery somewhat lighter than I expected. I am thankful for the program I've been through and the time I've had to adjust things in my life in preparation for this.....(although who knows how I will feel this time tomorrow!) Having said that, in still terrified but excited to get through this next part. I haven't been on the forums long but I am so grateful for having access to something like this - shared experience.…

So, last Friday was my 3-year surgiversary. I had good intentions to post on that day, but this is the first day that I haven’t been slammed with work or other stuff. This in itself kind of makes me smile because while I was busy before I had surgery, it was never because I was away from my desk for huge amounts of the day and not really thinking about weight at all. On surgiversary day, I woke up at my goal…I was 129.2. I have been at goal for about 18 months now, although I do fluctuate down to 127 and up to 133, depending on the day. The only way I have been able to stay at goal is to weigh myself every day and take immediate steps to correct any weight gain. As…

Then it started going down as expected. Today I started protein shakes and I am in severe pain. I am still very bloated and uncomfortable. I feel very cold. But I don't have a fever.

Well I'm basically done with all requirements BUT unfortunately I didn't get a surgery date. Turns out that I have a Fluid leak in my spine wich needs to be patched because of that leak I have fluid settled in my neck, so surgeon says I have to be cleared by a Neurologist before I can go into surgery wich I agree, thing is I need another MRI to see where exactly the leak is coming from in order to be patched and to see if that fluid can be drained. But because I had 1 MRI they are making this big deal out of it so I was denied a second MRI. My doctor appealed the decision weeks ago and still no response, by the way my insurance is HealthFirst. Hello everyone. I just started this journey back in Aug. I went to a seminar about WLS and now here I am with a booklet full of appointments and lists! I meet my surgeon Sept 27th. October is full of appointments for testing, nutritionist, and psych..I am looking forward to it all. Well maybe not the testing! I am so nervous that I will screw it up and go back to old habits, but I really feel that this will teach and retrain me on what is right and wrong for me. The support on these forums is another thing that I know will be of great value to me. A little about myself, I am 41, single and live a bit north of Boston. I have been overweight my entire life.
