Hi all! This looks like a great place to get info on lapband. I am a 5 year colon cancer survivor and I have a colostomy as a result(and my life!). I have I had 3 peristomal hernia repair surgeries. They have all been very intense and difficult. I have another hernia, and need to have it repaired before it turns into emergency surgery(like 2 times before!). I guess I am looking for other ostomates who may have had the lap band done and how that all worked. My wonderful surgeon has a doc in his office that is doing lap band work, so I am guessing I could have it done at the same time. Or I am wishing anyway. I have so much to learn about this, and know I …

Hey there everyone!! I can't wait to be sleeved and a projected surgery date could be January or February. Most of the people I've told about my sleeve surgery have said I'm going to look like a completely different person. In my mind for some reason I am thinking my life is going to be drastically different...but I'm trying to wrap my mind around how. How I'm going to look at a normal weight...I'm 5'11/2" and weigh between 247-250 and have been overweight almost all of my life....will I truly have more energy (when I'm home from work I don't feel like doing anything but holding down the couch and ALWAYS tired)....will I have more self-esteem and self confidence (because…

Hi. I was sleeved on 9/29. I am not having pain as far as incisions but having constant pain I think from gas. I've walked everyday several times a day and still no relief. I've even taken the Gas X pill, Is there anyone that is having the same problem? If so, what are you doing or what did you do to make it better. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It's a very rainy Saturday here in the U.K. and I am being so lazy. I'm loving every minute of my laziness too. I deserve it. I've earned it-no question! I have walked five miles every day this week, completed two 75 minute ballet classes and have had a couple of half mile swims. I've also completed most of my daily domestic chores, plus found time to gossip with friends and look after my husband and organise him. This time last year I could have managed the domestic side of the deal but the long walks? Forget it. The most the dogs got was a couple of miles a day if they were lucky. A dawdle round the local park was their lot. As for a ballet class........out of the …

Hello Everyone! It has been a long time since i have updated. I had started my journey to weight loss in 2011. I had wanted the Lap Band. I jumped through all the hoops my former insurance wanted me to. Then, when we submitted to them for surgery. They said that the place i was going to was no longer in network. They wanted me to drive 5-6 hours to go to the doctor. So, i gave up. I spiraled out of control with my eating. It is now 2016. I am at my highest weight ever. I am in pain from it and totally fed up! My insurance changed a couple months ago ( Anthem was bought out by Cigna) I thought what the hell, let me look to see if they cover it. AND THEY DID/DO!!! I am …

Hi all. 16 days ago I was sleeved. Getting my water in and eating normally... meaning chewing vs puree and tolerating all foods. Cant eat any raw veggies; cook them up soft, soups are wonderful, tuna, chicken, fish, of course I tried pizza and that was too much. Too doughy and heavy in stomach. I am eating small portions, slower pace at the table, exercising every day and happy. Down 16 lbs since surgery. This, I can do. No nausea, have not vomited at all, no bathroom problems either. Hi Everyone: I am new to this forum. I am 50 years old and have been contemplating bariatric surgery on and off for probably a few decades. After my final straw (knees have bone-on-bone arthritis, making walking very difficult), I attended my second weight loss surgery (WLS) seminar with the intention of signing up for the Lap Band procedure. The seminar & surgeon changed my mind and after doing more reading and talking with others who have had WLS, I decided the Gastric Sleeve was the right procedure for me. Currently I am going through the lengthy pre-op phase. I decided on a surgeon and hospital. I met with the nutritionist and completed the psych eval. …

I'm a week post op (09/29) and have been feeling great. Unfortunately I live in Wellington which is in Palm Beach County and as you may know we have a hurricane in the area. My wife being a nurse is on the A team and has been on lockdown since yesterday. Guess who's been giving me my blood thinner shots? Yup I had to man up. So here we have all found a safe, medically monitored way to lose weight yay us . Even under the same guidelines, our experiences are all as unique as we are. Being 100% honest, what is the most over the top, ridiculous thing you have ever done to loose weight? How did it turn out for you? Were you open to people around you about what you were doing? Our fails play just as big a role as our successes in our journeys, I'm curious if people are as "jaded" as I was lol no judgement, just honesty please! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hey all. I'm one week Post op. Where do I start. Well the day of surgery I was pretty out of it and really tired from the anesthesia and pain meds. My doctors and nurses kept me really comfortable with my pain. I had to have an upper GI study before I was able to drink anything. Unfortunately my system was moving really slowly, so I had to have the upper GI done three times until things finally started to move along. My second time doing the GI, I fainted, but thankfully the doctor caught me lol. After things were good, I was finally able to do ice chips and I couldn't of been happier. After the ice chips, I started to do Water. The next day after surgery I was able to do…

Hello Everyone, I'm on day 5 of the horrid pre-op diet. My removal of my lap band-turned to gastric bypass is on 9/28 at NYU with Dr. Bradley Schwack. I'd love any support I can get. I guess my biggest fear is that I won't lose the weight, though my close friend lost 190 pounds in 18 months! He is my inspiration. I'm looking for a good resource to tell me how to eat and what to eat to keep losing weight, once I'm done with the 20 days post op diets. Kind regards.

Hello all, I have had my lapband for 2 years now and never lost any weight from it. I could never find my sweet spot and now I can't really hold down solids. I throw up all the time and I'm just tired. I have to do a 3 months weight loss program with my doctor and I am on month 2. I have an appointment set up with a Surgeon next week to look at doing my conversion. My insurance covers at 100% and since I haven't lost weight that is the only requirement that I had to meet. From speaking with the Bariatric Center I can possibly have my surgery in December, if all goes well. I am open to any advice. Thanks Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

Hi Everyone! This is my first post. I had gastric sleeve surgery on June 9th. (Yesterday)I am still in the hospital but so far so good! Just wanted to let anyone who is nervous what to expect my experience has been good so far. Surgery was one hour. I was in pain when I woke up from surgery but as soon as the meds kicked in I was ok. I was up and going up the bathroom a few hours later. Hard not being able drink anything the day of the surgery but got through it. Once you have your X-ray you are cleared to have some liquids... I have never been so excited to see chicken broth. Took 3 sips and I feel full! So far I am so surprised how good I feel. I'll take it one day at a…

I had my gastric bypass surgery on Monday, September 26th. I was discharged the next evening on Tuesday. So far everything is going really good, haven't had any major problems, I'm holding down the little soft foods that I'm eating. Not really doing much exercise other than walking, until I see my surgeon on the 20th. My biggest complaint is sleeping. I'm having very minimal pain at one of the incisions which causes me to have to sleep on my back and I don't sleep on my back. I can't even lie on either side without it hurting. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so how long will it be before I can turn from side to side, is this something I need to be overly c…

I am 25 years old, a registered nurse working on med/surg bariatric unit, and have been overweight since adolescence. For four years I have wanted to get the sleeve done, but my parents insurance was a no go. This year I started working in a hospital with great insurance and just had my first appointment with the surgeon today! My surgery will be in Febuary as long as everything goes as planned. I have Aetna and have to make it 90days, no weight gain, psych eval, an upper GI study(just Xrays with contrast), and three nutritionist visits. I'm at my highest weight of 375 right now and my BP is periodically high. In January, I'm going on a cruise so that's why we're pushing …

I had surgery on September 26, 2016. I was released from the hospital the next day and I'm doing great! My abdomen is a little sore, but otherwise, no issues at all. I weight 185 pounds when I went into the hospital; today I am 172.4! My blood sugar is normal, and I am off meds. Also, my blood pressure is normal and I am off all but one bp medication; and I'm only taking half of that! No one thought I should have WLS. My husband was against it, but was supportive anyway. None of my friends thought I was heavy enough to have the surgery. But I feel it was worth it because it I feel so good and I'm already off diabetic medications and most of my other meds. So glad I did…

Hi everyone. I'm a 31 yr old married mother of a 6 year old (7 on Monday) boy. I've always been a fat kid (body and soul). However, about 2 years ago I got a hole in my colon due to diverticulitis, and almost died from septic shock. I had to have an emergency colonoscopy, and live with a colostomy back for 4 months. I went back and had everything reconnected as soon as I could. Well since my abdominal muscles were obviously not very strong to begin with, the strain of recovery caused me to get to gnarly hernias in my abdominal wall. It's all fat poking through, but it kinda hurts and looks terrible. My hubby said it looked like another breast on my abs (with my stom…

Hi everyone!!! I am 44 and just had a revision from Band to Sleeve 11 weeks ago. I have been overweight since childhood, so my entire life. Long story short. I was banded in 2013, port flipped and was non-accessible. My new doctor an I decided a revision would be best since I had regained everything I had lost (60lbs) with the band. So I was sleeved 7/20/16, the loss is very slow. Im down 39lbs from the beginning of preop. I have a different mind set this time around, so I'm hoping for a great journey. I am in the pre-op stage of this journey. I held out on anything surgical for years, saying I would save it as a "last resort." I guess my last resort has come. I think my years of yoyo dieting along with the "on-again-off-again" exercise routine has brought me to this point. I keep telling myself, "I'm a lifetime Weight Watchers member - I SHOULD be able to do this without resorting to WLS." But that "SHOULD" doesn't seem to happen anymore. I was in my 20s when I lost weight with Weight Watcher and in a very different situation. Now I am 50, I'm a ten-year recovering alcoholic and drug addict. I quit all forms of nicotine seven years ago. I am an emotional eater at th…

Hey guys, I've always kind of lurked around, don't really say much. But I need some advice. Here's a little about me. My name is Deborah, you can call me Deb. I'm 26 years old and I've been over weight almost all of my life. When I was 8 I had a really bad incident with some boiling Water and after that I never wanted to play outside, I stayed inside eating. My mother tells me she regrets never taking me to see someone professionally because she believes it has stemmed a lot of weight issues, as well as depression, anxiety. Etc. Anyway, fast forward to 2010, I find out I'm pregnant with my first, my daughter. I knew right then that my weight (especially since every do…

To make a long background short, every 10 years I've gained at least 20 lbs. After I had my youngest son in 2000 I thought I could lose it. Soon my new baby was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. I remember comforting myself with mash potatoes and gravy from the hospital cafeteria. I had to focus all my strength on him. I never was able to stay below 200 lbs. again. 15 years later I am so happy to say my son is in good health, but my weight kept climbing. After my friend in the Midwest lost weight through bariatric surgery, I told myself I'd try on my own one more time. Although I lost 17 lbs., the cravings returned and so did the weight. So in February I talked …

Hi all, I've been lurking for some months, and want to share how I came to my decision to have VSG surgery. My life the last few months has been pretty awful, but it did make my decision to get VSG a no brainer. April 26th of this year, three days after my 35th birth day, I was the sickest I have ever been. It had been going on for about a week and I just thought I had food poisoning. I was nauseous, vomiting, and had really bad headaches. I was so sick that I decided to skip crossfit that week. I had recently started again, and I LOVE it. I decided to tough it out, and went into work. Later on in the day, I was just finishing up with a meeting in my manager's office…

So it's been a week since I was sleeved. I have been very lucky and have not taken any pain medication ainxe the surgery. The nurse and the doctors were very happy I was able to walk and go to the bathroom after surgery. I mean it hurt, but it was manageable. My biggest concern was that I was always hungry. I was able to drink the 60+ oz. Of Water on day 2 and started having some broth. But I was miserable since I was just hungry all the time. It made me question the surgery, specially when I read all the comments from you guys saying you dis not feel hunger at all. Yesterday I had my 1 week post op consultation and I have already dropped 13 pounds (I was 214 before su…

So, I have had quite an adventure since having my surgery almost 4 years ago. In addition to living with lupus and copd, I needed a hysterectomy and had complications from it. My husband was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago and struggled for a bit but is better now. My 9 year old son required what would thought would be a simple hand surgery but of course it was not! Needless to say things have been a bit crazy and very very busy! Though I have stayed on track with my food choices I have been really bad at remembering to eat and I am not getting enough Protein or Water. My exercise has been intermittent when I find the time. So I am a 31 year old woman from Texas who has been overweight since day 1. I came from a family of large people and diabetics. My mother is the only one who was thin in the family and boy did she hate me. I was raised by my grandmother who did what she could on limited income. food for us was usually fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, or some other unhealthy concoction. Not to mention sweets everywhere! And the woman was a diabetic. My mother would berate me for my weight and at the same time never encourage me to do sports and would always give me treats as rewards for good behavior, grades or because I was sad. By the time I hit middle school I was probably in …

Hi sleevers Im 10 days out from surgery and have been losing weight. But im right now very depressed as i see others enjoying nice food. I am a real foodie and currently regret doing this. Still its done now. Painful drinking and very uncomfortable feeling. I would recommend having a good hard think if you can avoid this surgery. Im paying the price for lack of discipline in the past. I decided that it was time to get a new headshot for work. I'll let you guess which one is which. Sadly the before photo )from 4 years ago) wasn't quite at my biggest. I don't think I completely realized how big I was. I can't believe that is me! Its even worse because I acknowledged that photo was me big because I saw it every day, but until I just put them side by side, I didn't quite get it. Look how much bigger my eyes look! I am just in awe of my changes. Now I am just waiting for my hair to grow back in! Sitting at 99 pounds gone and running a 10 mile race next week, LIFE IS GOOD! pam
