I'm two weeks out from bypass surgery. I enjoy cigars and smoked right up until the night before surgery then started a week later with no apparent ill effects. They were a needed big distraction during the last two days on the clear liquid, virtually no calorie pre-op diet.

I'm not sure how to put this so I will just directly quote my bariatric surgeon. He said, "there are 3 ways that you might have problems with the surgery - (1) smoking, (2) smoking, and (3) smoking."

It's really, really unsafe to be smoking after bariatric surgery. The risk of getting bleeding ulcers is greatly increased if you smoke. I can't tell exactly what you're asking here but I'll echo what the others have said: NO.

Why ruin your progress or severely harm yourself just for a smoking habit?

My dad smoked cigars when I was growing up and used to say the same thing. My response to him was, "yes, but we do." Meaning the wife, four kids, and a dog who had to inhale his second-hand smoke. Even if you don't inhale, you too are breathing second-hand smoke.

My surgeon refuses to operate on anyone who is not committed to staying smoke free before and after surgery.

Let's just say I am surprised by your cavalier attitude. For me, getting sleeved was a matter of life and death.

If this is an addiction for you, I urge you to seek professional help.

You have got to find healthy alternatives to food, as well as unhealthy habits.

I like your attitude! I think a lot of people lump cigarette smoking and cigar smoking together. One is dangerous habit and while the other is rather benign. I belong to a social club and smoke cigars with several medical professionals. None smoke cigarettes. I look forward to the day when I can have a drink too. Life is to be enjoyed.

My Grandfather died from smoking related cancer.

He never inhaled, either.

there truly is no safe way to smoke tobacco products. people forget just because you dont inhale the smoke doesnt mean the toxic bounty isnt being absorbed through the mucous membranes. there are other types of cancer people get from smoking besides lung cancer. you are just as likely to suffer ulcers from smoking a cigar as you are a cigarette. dont believe me ask your doctor

You can safely smoke 2 cigars a day and not have ANY increased risk for cancer than a non smoker.
