My insurance required a 12 month counseling/nurse program where they called every month to discuss goals and diet and etc. I graduate this program on December 19th and then I can get my surgery scheduled. I'm a lower BMI of 34/35 5ft9 at 240 lbs. I'm very diabetic and am on several different medications and while I've never been EXTREMELY overweight, it's always been a battle. I'm hoping the sleeve will help me get my adapt to a new lifestyle and provide the tools I need to finally take the excess weight off. If successful I hope to be off most of my medications, I've heard those that follow the rules have alot of success controlling their blood sugars and don't h…

Hello All - My name is Dave. My story, will sound familiar to a lot of you. I really can't remember a time I have not been fighting the war against fat. I can even remember struggling when I was 13-14, and I was simply a big boned farm boy. Then on to football and wrestling, I bulked up for football, played lineman then would "drop" down in wrestling season to wrestle into the 189# division. Keep going into my late teens, was told I needed to loose 40# to get into the Military. Lost it, and more in boot camp down to my "adult" lowest weight of 177 - which was according to the Military and common medical thought the my "ideal" weight - whatever the hell that meant. My…

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. After three Thanksgivings with my band I am so thankful that I have been able to maintain my weight loss almost 4 years. I will enjoy cooking and eating today with no guilt I am thankful for my children and grandchildren. This will be the 2nd Thanksgiving since my husband's death and I am grateful for all the wonderful memories we had in our 39 years of marriage. I still miss him everyday but I try to think of something happy everyday. Best of all my health is so much better because of my band. Do all the things you can do while you are able to do them. Life is short and there are no guarantees . I am cooking today and with my kids help w…

I had my surgery August 30, 2014. Every day since then I have suffered with severe nausea and vomiting. When I woke up from surgery I also had a runny nose and every time I eat my nose pours After a few bites I get so nauseated that I can't finish and or I start vomiting. And the really sad thing is I have lost very little weight. What I can eat is junk, popcorn, chips, candy. I can only drink a small amount of fluids or I throw up if I drink too much. I take Prilosec twice and day and a probiotic twice a day. I have no energy and dread every meal. Thanksgiving we went out to eat, I took 3 bites and ran to the restroom to throw up. I have had several EGDs …

Hi! I'm new to this app but am really scared about having RNY on November 30. I had the lap band for almost 4 years but it had to come out due to slipping. I lost 120lbs but of course when the band came out the weight came back. I feel this is my last chance to beat this weight problem for good! Any advice would be appreciated. So I was really active on Bariatric Pal as a pre op and immediately following. But now I'm 10 months out and I figured it was time for an update. My HW: 257 Surgery Weight: 235 Current Weight: 155 Goal: 135-145 I hit the 100 pound loss mark at around 6 months and I've maintained it since. This has been a terrible long stall but I workout a lot and I think my body is really happy at 155 even though I would like to lose at least 10 more. Since my surgery I've gone rock climbing. I went from a 27 minute mile to a 7:30. I am currently training for a half marathon on September 11th! Which is 15 days before my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF MY SURGERY!! So that is a H…

I was on this site a while back but I forgot my username. So here I am again! My name is Tiffany, I'm 31, I was sleeved 13 months ago. Best decision of my life! I started my journey at 258 lbs. I was sick, my dr told me to check out the program offered through my insurance. I was reluctant but once I started attending the weekly classes I knew the sleeve was gonna be for me. I am 13 months post op, I reached my goal weight at 8 months post op. Since then I've gone on to lose another 13 lbs. My current weight is 132. I couldn't be happier with my success. Here's a few pictures from the journey me at my biggest! 258 lbs Thru the process the day I came home from vacat…

So here I go....started my pre op diet today. Doing very well except for some awfully funny brain fog! My gastric sleeve surgery is all set for October 27th in TJ with Dr. Illan. I'm so excited and ready. I live in Houston Texas. Anyone else close to me? Even though I have a ton of friends and supportive gf, I could use a support partner that is going through the same things. Please reach out if you could use one, too. Thanks in advance. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Just wanted to do a 3 month update! I had my surgery on 8/31/2016 in Atlanta, GA. Highest weight 330lb.... surgery weight 319lb...... current weight 265lb. I can truly say I feel great! I'm not where I want to be but the progression there has definitely been enjoyable even when my weight stalled. To everyone who's just starting their journey keep pushing you will be glad you did in the end. Happy Holidays

Hello, my name is Ed aka Danger Mouse. I'm originally from Austin, TX but currently live in Upstate NY outside Albany. My surgeon is Dr. Baranov in Saratoga Springs, and I had my RNY Gastric Bypass surgery on August 10th, 2015. This is my story. IN THE BEGINNING I posted the meat of this in another thread a week or so ago, but I figured it's a good way to start out a thread on my story and use it as sort of a living diary I guess post op...as long as I can keep it up. So I start at the beginning... When I see pictures of myself when I was younger (before 9 years of age), I was very skinny. Before that time my parents would send me to after school da…

Hi there. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on November 9th 2016. I was 470 pounds before the 2 week pre-op diet. Was down to 440 the day of surgery and now one week post-op I'm 420. I made a video that tells my story better than typing it. I'll do another video in a month or so I guess.

Surgery went well but I hare in hospital an extra day because of nausea/vomiting this morning. But I'm drinking and walking today. Slow going but I'm hanging in. As you'll find at the beginning you might experience gas when you start drinking Protein again but I'm hanging in, hoping to go home tomorrow. Wish me luck. Hi I had gastric bypass surgery 16 years ago by a doctor in South Africa who has since been struck off the medical roll and this operation is now deemed illegal. I weighed 130 kg at the time of my surgery.6 months ago I weighed 52kg.I had never looked me felt so good in my life.I fitted in my 13year old daughters clothes. Six months later (now ) I have started to get swollen and fat and flabby. My once skinny thighs and no bum are wobbly fat and swollen now.my stomach is always bloated and I feel far and ugly again. None of my clothes fit me again and I refuse to buy bigger ones. The pharmacist says it looks like lymphedema and varicose veins. Can anyone explain to…

I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon this week, 7 months post-op. He told me I'm doing fantastic, should lose about 15 more lbs, and then, looking me dead in the eye and stated, "damn, I did a good job!" He did, and I did too! I'm in shock daily at how for I've come this year. My head hasn't caught up yet though, and most days I still feel fat, despite what i see in the mirror. I'm OK with that though, because gives me the motivation to keep making good choices and keeps me from being complacent. My husband and I went out last night to Celebrate our anniversary and we took a picture together (the one on the right, cropped him out for privacy). I just keep s…

I had my surgery on 03/17/2015 and I thought, this is it!!!! I had read stories of people that gained back all the weight and sometimes more and I thought why would you do that and how could you if your stomach was removed. I had the Sleeve and I said not me no way no how. WELL here we are in 10/28/16 and I have not gotten to goal and have been fighting the same 8lbs for the last 8 month. food is a whole lot easier to eat and eat I have been and then I realize I am up the same eight and get back on track and lose a few and that VICIOUS VICIOUS cycle will start again. I am in other Bariatric sites and even buy their expensive Protein powder saying this will get me bac…

3 days out. When I woke up and the Dr. told me that the surgery took 2 hrs longer because of adhesions and that my liver had been nicked,I was questioning why I did this. 3 days in ICU wasn't very pleasant. I found this app online and thought it might be good for me, so I just joined! My name is Kara, I'm 26 years old and from Pocola, Ok. I had the Roux-en-y Gastric bypass in December of 2010, I was 20 when I had it done by Dr.Roller in Fayetteville, Ar. Before I had surgery, I weighed 255 lbs with a BMI of 40.2. Now I weigh 189 lbs with a BMI of 32. I struggle REALLY bad with nutrient deficiencies and low Protein. I bruise VERY easily and get sick 2-3 times a year (I usually wind up with bronchitis or strep throat) But I try to manage. Any input is welcome! Glad to be here! I had my first appt on July 21st. I met one of their RNs, my dietician, my surgeon and got labs drawn. Everyone was super nice and explained everything in detail. My financial coordinator is on top of everything. I have BCBS federal insurance and they only require a 3 month or 90 day supervised wt loss. Im so very excited, but I feel like I have a lot to do within those 90 days. I need a sleep study, medical clearance from my PCP and hematologist ( I had a DVT diagnoses in Feb), need to lose 10#, psych eval, chest X-ray, PFT, EKG, and ABG, and sit in an education class. My insurance is amazing. I feel like this is going to go by super fast. I'm praying for a November 201…

Well, What a year this has been! Life has flown this past year, especially the last few months, but I made it to one year. I couldn't be happier with how the last year has gone. In the last 12 months I have, lost nearly 105 pounds, 5 pants sizes almost 6, some hair, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and GERD. I have gained confidence, energy, and health. I have finished the Couch to 5K program, run several 5Ks, completed a super sprint triathlon in under an hour, run a 10 mile race in 2 hours and 16 minutes, and traveled to Montana for a "working" vacation including running a saw mill, herding cattle and horses, fighting a wildfire, and running every morning befor…

Hi Everyone, Started my journey at 533.8. I went on my pre op diet and got down to 508 on July 29th 2016. It's been an Up and down road with hip issues and gout but as of November 15th I'm down 142lbs. I would like to be at my goal weight of 220 by my surgaversary or soon after. Best decision ever and I don't regret it. I tend to walk 4 miles a day then do gym circuit, stairmaster and weights. Yoga has been great too. Can't wait to go on roller coasters. Just got a call today to set up my first phone dietician consultation. My insurance requires 5 phone consults 2 weeks apart before you can schedule surgery. Based on that time line I should be good to go around Feb/March. I'm super excited. I downloaded the app to track my food and I've been on the Vitamin regime so that becomes habit. I've always been hesitant to post on this board because the title "Tell Your Story" just makes me feel like it implies you have a complete and finished story to tell. I've not felt before this point like I came full circle. I don't think this journey ever ends, but at 3 years post op, losing 140 pounds, having had skin removal, becoming very ill, having a little regain, battling back and losing it, facing down my eating disorder, I feel like I have some perspective and that things have really come full circle. I wrote a post on my blog about it, with some of my favorite pictures from the journey. If you are considering WLS, or new to the journey and feeling discourage…

I can't say this is my 'surgery story' as I have not had my surgery yet, however this is my story. Whenever someone told me they were having weight loss surgery done, I felt compelled to talk them out of it. I felt it was my duty to do so. See, my father died after having a gastric bypass in 1982. He was only 31. He had broken his arm after a fall at work, and he was told he needed to lose weight to prevent another accident. Given the devastating impact his death had on our lives, I felt I had a righteous mandate to preach the dangers of weight loss surgery. DOOM. DISASTER. DEATH. Yeah, needless to say I was judgmental and unsupportive to people I knew who sought …

Well I have been looking forward to this day for 6 months and it has finally come! October 20, 2016 is my surgery date! I started my journey at 519.5 pounds and currently today I weigh 379.5. So far I have lost 140 pounds. I am overly excited to see what the future has in store for me after my surgery and the new life I can give my family. My boys deserve the best father that I can be and at 519.5 pounds, I was not that! 2017 is going to be a great year! Everyone keeps asking if I am nervous for my surgery. I called my story still hanging in there because I believe I will battle food the rest of my life. It's OK though because I'm learning to manage my addiction and I won't lose. So, 7 years ago I weighed 295 pounds. I was sad and uncomfortable and I wanted to change. I heard about lap band and decided that is what I needed to do. I went back and forth for about a year before I did it. There was a mourning process, but I survived! It hasn't always been easy, but truthfully I hadn't had the problems many people have had. I will answer questions or just be support
