Well, tomorrow is surgery day for me. The pre-op diet hasn't been too terrible, but I have had a bit of headache and am tired. I'm not too nervous right now, but I have a feeling I will be very nervous in the morning. Tonight I am going to get a small bag packed for the overnight hospital stay. I'm confident things are going to go well and I am already looking forward to being back home!

So my journey started about a year ago Aug. 2015 I started seeing a professional dietition and started adipex. My starting weight was 252 lbs i felt terrible had a hard time breathing especially with mild exercise. I was not modivated it took all my energy to play with my daughter. I tried everything to loose weight but lets face it i always felt hungery and even with diet and exercise my weight loss would yo-yo never loose more than 10 lbs then the following week i would gain double. So with diet changes, meds for appetite suppressant and exercise My results were a weight loss of about 15 lbs after several months then i started slowly gaining back:( i felt so frustrated…

After struggling with my weight since middle school, I attended a seminar on weight loss surgery in January of 2015, fairly certain that I would have the lap-band procedure if I decided to go through with it at all. My weight has always been a sensitive subject for me, so I told no one that I was going, not even my husband. I listened to everything the surgeon said, including the issues that people with lap band were having, and that many people who had opted for lap band ended up getting a revision to the sleeve eventually. I left the seminar, impressed with the surgeon and his knowledge, but very embarrassed that I was even considering surgery. After all, I had know…

I underwent the vertical sleeve gastrectomy Yesterday. Unfortunately I haven't had the pain free experience others have had. I attribute much of this to the fact that I had a large unknown hiatal hernia that needed to be fixed. How long will this epigastric pain and esophageal spasm last? I was discharged today but I'm having trouble getting my liquids down Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Almost one week post op. It's been a little more difficult than I had expected. However everything seems to be progressing well. I seem to be having a problem getting enough Protein and fluids. Friday is the day, can't believe it is finally here. The last couple of weeks have been stressful getting the medical clearance. Had to see a cardiologist and pulmonologist, had to have an echocardigram, a ct scan, and a EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound). All tests are negative so surgery is still on schedule. I am down 84lbs since I started this journey in April but I am having so much trouble staying on track now that I am losing slower. I have met all my goals until now but afraid that I won't continue. Old habits are sneaking back into my life and along with them some beliefs that I'll never make it where I want to be and that is under 200lbs. I am 266 now and still need to lose 67lbs to hit my goal. The staff at the Bariatric clinic tell me not to expect to lose that much and I don't want to believe them when they tell me I probably won't. I want to keep losing at least 5lbs a month at this point am I being crazy having these goals or what?! How do I get these negative …

I'm on my liquid diet and I didn't realize how conscious I'd be about my hunger. It has to be completely psychological, but it's making me hangry--I get crabby like the people in Snickers commercials. I keep apologizing to people in case I come off as rude. I'm excited about tomorrow; just hoping to survive today without ending up on the 6 o'clock news Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello All! I am 3 years Post op as of last week, I lost about 75 lbs, got down to 148 lbs at my lowest and I am now 8 months pregnant. I am only 12 Lbs away from where I started on surgery day- I am depressed every time I look at the scale, not to mention my doctor gives me a hard time about my weight at each visit. I know I have gained more than I should have but I feel so out of control with my hunger- I honestly feel no restriction, I can eat 2X as much as before I was pregnant and I am so scared that after I deliver I will be right back where I started. Does anyone have any tips for after I give birth on how to get back on track? Will my restriction ever return?

I am getting the GSV this Friday, 9/2, and I am extremely nervous, and having an internal melt down. I can't focus at work. Normally, someone who has been wanting this surgery for years would be excited, but I'm just worried and rethinking if I should continue doing this. I'm trying my best to stay positive. At my heaviest weight I was 425lbs. Walking up one flight of stairs was an act of God. I swear all the time and was out of breath more times than not. I really thought that after 30 years of battling my weight that I would die just like that. On December 3, 2014, I had RNY gastric bypass and what an amazing journey it's been. I'm down over 250lbs from my heaviest weight and 163 since my surgery. I can walk, breathe, run and live freely. I always felt trapped in my body and now I feel like I can do anything! On November 6th I'm running the NYC Marathon and for a woman who needed prayer to walk up one flight it's a testament to how this tool can work if you really wor…

I started at 388 lbs. I'm currently a week and a day post op. I had complications and came close to death. I had major internal bleeding and had to have plasma and transfusions. It was quite scary. I stayed in the hospital for 7 days. I'm doing much better. Can handle Water and Popsicles and Protein water but all the shakes I've tried have made me gag and heave. I am on anti nausea meds daily and am still in a fair bit of pain. I do get hungry...but am wanting real food. Not liquids! All in time. My first post op appt is next Tuesday. It was a very difficult experience for me and at this point I can't say I'd do it again. I probably will once weight starts coming off. I l…

Hello All! My name is Sarah, and I am so excited and nervous to be banded! I have done months of studying, discussing with doctors, etc, and finally had everything submitted to insurance. I was told 2 days ago everything was approved. I called my insurance to verify- and they are saying it is still in progress. The surgeons office just called me stating that they need me to call them to verify my 5% loss required by my insurance, because apparently it is appearing as though it was forged by my surgeons office! (It was NOT, and my PCP even signed off on it) I think its because I had previously submitted the same form and had it filled out incorrectly. Anyway, i'm goi…

I had lapband surgery in April 30th of 2012. I am 5"1, and I'm 49 years old. My highest weight was 223. I lost 100 pounds and reached my goal weight of 123. Then I had a port leak in early 2014 and had port revision surgery in September of 2014. I have had a huge regain. I am back up to 165. The insurance I have now doesn't cover my Dr's visits anymore. I am not at a good restriction. And I can't afford to get the fills I need at this time. Has anyone else had a regain? And if so, what did you do to drop the weight again? As of right now, I feel like a total failure. Two days ago I went to only liquids. Today I am on pureed. I'm trying to restart and refocus. I am walkin…

Hi everyone! New to BP, and really hoping to make some great friends who are going through the same thoughts and processes as I am, because right now I am feeling sort of alone. I have a very supportive boyfriend and family. I also have friends who have gone through this surgery, and even had the same surgeon I will have, which is very comforting. HOWEVER- I need to make some connections with people or are feeling what Im feeling right now,, Im scheduled for gastric sleeve on August 26th, and as each day gets closer Im getting more excited, but increasingly more nervous as well. It doesnt help that I am super nosey and read every horror story imaginable, and watch youtube…

My name is Becky and I just turned 21, I'm a nursing student and am engaged to the love of my life. I started my WLS journey in November of 2012 and got the gastric sleeve at the end of December 2012. My starting weight was 260. From the moment I woke up, I had a stricture and had pain with swallowing. We decided as I healed this would calm down and eating would become less painful. Well, that never happened..I've had roughly 10 endoscopy's and they have dilated the stricture each time hoping to help ease the pain. I've been hospitalized for pain and malnutrition roughly 5-6 times and it's been a tough journey. Now it's July of 2014 and I haven't eaten solid food since my…

I'm 5'8 438lb and started my journey in January 2016....at my initial consultation with my surgeon I let the doctor know I was on the fence between the Sleeve and RNY he didn't advised me that I would need to lose weight for either procedure but now wbthat my insurance has approved the wants me to lose 30lb before he would do the bypass...it would have been nice if I told me this 6 months ago, but Im excited and after reading some of the testimonials of the sleevers I'm confident this will be a wonderful tool for me.... hopefully this Monday I will get my surgery date abd in prepped to begin the pre op liquid diet Sent from my HTC6500LVW using the BariatricPal App

Hello, I am Kathleen, from Virginia. I have started at 260 and had the surgery on October 6, so far I have lost 23 pounds. This is not my first time having was surgery. I first started at 437 pounds and had surgery on November 2005. I had to have a revision from the first surgery because I had scar tissue. Hopefully this time I won't have any problems. Is there a food diary here that will keep track of all of your Protein.

Hi I need info before I can make a decision to get "banded". I am about 220 lbs and 5' 3". I am a female age 67. May I hear from those of you who have had the surgery, the pros and cons? Does it eliminate hunger? Is your diet dramatically different? Is it easy to eat less? Do you have health benefits? If so what kind. What problems do you have. Who would you recommend for the surgery in the Tampa Bay area? How long does it take to start losing weight? Is thee a lot of follow up? Does the band have to be adjusted? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Has anyone heard about doing a liver/gallbladder flush to get rid of possible gallstones? I have my surgery in November and am paranoid about getting gallstones after... Or bad acid reflux. Someone recommend I do a flush before I have my surgery to cleanse out the liver and gallbladder. Has anyone done this? Did anyone have to get their gallbladder removed after surgery? Thanks guys!

Hello! This is a short story as I only had the surgery on 8/17/16! I was discharged from the hospital the next day and have been sitting on my couch ever since! Lol. I've been in moderate pain, mainly where my incision sites are (one is really located at a bad position and is the largest which is causing me the most pain). I've been trying to get my liquids and Protein in but haven't been too successful. My goal right now is not to throw anything up. I have a hard time with the Protein shakes in general and don't really care for any of them, which doesn't help. Haha. Basically I'm looking for people to talk to about this major life change. I am only 21 and don't know o…

I had a lapband slip on me put in several years ago, I was so upset i had it removed. Again in California and by insurance back in 2012 I had it put back in. My weight the highest was 225 at 5' 4" size 24WIDE, could not get off the couch without help.. I now weigh 151 4 years later, size 12, new lapband. Yes i could not stand being overweight, felt ugly inside and out. I have a weakness now, besides not eating much, and exercising. I look at my obese friends and family(husband too) and watch them eat 4 portions of food with also large portions of dessert. I have been told i am too physical, yet i still love my morbidly obese husband, love him for what he offers inside h…

I started this journey back in November when I went to an informational meeting with a friend. My insurance required 6 month nutrition visits in which I lost 18 pounds. I was scheduled for surgery in July but found out I had a cancerous tumor on my kidney so I had that removed at the end of June. Thankfully they got it early, no chemo or radiation! Now I am scheduled for Aug 30th and I am so ready to get this over with and start my new journey. I'm scared and excited, I guess that's normal. Any positive thoughts or comments appreciated. Hi Sleevers! This post is largely for those of you who've reached goal & may have had stretch marks or cellulite prior to surgery. How has your body changed, has the cellulite disappeared... Stretch marks diminished? Please share your story and if possible before & after pics of "problem" areas. I'm a month post op & HATE my cellulite. I have it all over my legs. If they will vanish once I reach my goal (130) I'd be so ecstatic! I've always wanted to wear shorts but have never due to the sight of them. Please share! Thanks. Since my surgery, I've lost quite a bit of weight. I never told my co-workers because I'm a private person, it's no one's business and they talk too much. Everyday they are critiquing and analyzing my appearance. I'm Hearing rumors that I've had weight loss surgery (even though I have, I never told them). That alone is quite annoying. Ok everyone, here goes..... I started my one week pre-op diet today. My surgery is in one week, June 7th, 2016 and my nerves are really kicking in. I have seen several people posting their stories in this forum, so I thought I'd give it a go. It will be nice to have one place I can update everyone and keep track of my progress. After reading so many inspiring stories in this discussion thread, I hope that one day, I can do the same. I'm all stocked up on Protein shakes/ powders (Premier Protein shakes, unjury protein powders, Syntrax protein powders, and GENEPRO protein powder), broths, teas, and sugar free Jello. Luckily, my pre-op diet allows a dinner consisting of…
