My Gastric Bypass Story!

Recommended Posts

Hello!

This is a short story as I only had the surgery on 8/17/16! I was discharged from the hospital the next day and have been sitting on my couch ever since! Lol. I've been in moderate pain, mainly where my incision sites are (one is really located at a bad position and is the largest which is causing me the most pain). I've been trying to get my liquids and Protein in but haven't been too successful. My goal right now is not to throw anything up. I have a hard time with the Protein shakes in general and don't really care for any of them, which doesn't help. Haha.

Basically I'm looking for people to talk to about this major life change. I am only 21 and don't know of many people my age that have had this done. I want to know your guys stories and successes! It encourages me to keep going and keep strong.

Thank you all!

Hi, I had my surgery July 13, RnY, I would suggest you concentrate on broth and Water, don't worry about Protein Shakes for a few days. You need to get up and walk, at least around your house to get rid of the gas that will help with pain and nausea, good luck :)

Congrats on the surgery! I have surgery this Tuesday (8/23) so I don't have any advice or a success story to share at the moment but I know you will do great. ????

I had sleeve surgery on 8/16/16, and was released the next day. Today was the first day I was able to drink without pain. I also had hernia repair so not sure if the pain was from the hernia or my new stomach :) I still have soreness when I get up and down but I have walked a lot and not had to have any pain meds since I came home.

I had one bad experience where I woke up at 2:30 choking and felt like acid was all the way up to my throat. I literally thought I was dying and filling up with fluid!!! I laugh at myself now but then it was serious. I got on this app and found that it is sometimes common for people to have acid reflux and my dr prescribed me something the next day. Good luck to you!!

Hello brimm-Brittany!

I had my surgery on May 17th. I'm now down 56 pounds. Concentrate on your fluids for now! Now I can get a shake down in 2 sittings where as before it took me ALL DAY! Get to walking! It makes you feel better. I still have gas pains and discomforts from time to time but a good walk always gives me comfort. Good luck and keep me posted

Thank you all for your replies!

Since then I've been mainly focused on eating. I found myself going 6..7..8 hours without eating (and not being hungry). The thought of eating makes me nauseous. I'm working on it. Lol.

Unfortunately I'm unable to sleep most nights. I can't get comfortable and often get restless. So I'm running on maybe an hour of sleep. I have my first post op visit tomorrow and plan to discuss what my options are regarding that. This lady right here needs her sleep! Lol.

I love hearing about other people's stories and advice. It helps me cope and not feel so alone.

:)

Thanks! All went well. I'm slowly moving around and should be discharged this afternoon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
