I started my journey this morning by going to a seminar. I should get a call this coming week letting me know of my coverage for insurance. I am going through OhioHealth and am an employee, so it will be covered. I have been overweight much of my life and am now bigger than I have been for awhile. I have been wanting to do the gastric sleeve for awhile, but my moment of of truth came when I had to do the walk of shame off of a ride at Cedar Point. I was unable to ride the new Valraven because I was too big to fit in the seat . I see what my Mom and patient's go through being obese and I am starting to feel it in my body. I feel it in my knees, I am so tired all of the t…

I had my sleeve surgery on 5/5/16...and I have regret it every since. I had to go through 7 months of class to know everything about the surgery.. Since the surgery I haven't been able to keep any food or beverage down... Not even Water.. I lost 25 in 7 days due to my lack of nutrition.. I came back to the hospital because of dehydration.. Then I was re admitted for vomiting and dehydration...Eventually I had to get a P.I.C line in my arm and now I get all my food(in liquid form) in a bag through that I.V... I'm sorry for the long post but I wanted to know if anyone else is/has gone through a similar situation... There are so other factors that I failed to mention for th…

Hello All, Making the decision to go to Mexico for a Gastrc Sleeve has been pretty loaded. I'm sure none of us saw this type of choice coming as we gained hope and enthusiasm for the latest diet miracle or relight loss research. Sigh... Growing up in the 1970's, I had no way of knowing that I was going to be part of the generation who: - was a test market for sugar cereals - was drinking more sugar than any children in history - watched home cooked meals replaced by fast food and pre-packaged foods - was bombarded with imagery of skinny women...everywhere - fell prey to the diet industry I could go on and on. Bottom line, I've been on every diet known to man, have…

So I had my surgery on July 5th. I must say guys the night before was the worst. I told my whole family that i was not going to get the surgery!!!! Well nobody listened and I ended up going to the hospital at 5am. What calmed me down was a nice talk (more like i was talking to my self) with God. And I am not pushing God on anyone ( I'm not a faithful goer at all) but I strongly feel that God works in strong ways man... So my surgery was good. Last thing I remember was I was actually fighting the tech to not put that mask on my face... Well... I lost that battle and woke up to the kind nurses telling me not to pull the tube. But the joke is on them because I didn't feel …

Hello all, My name is Marc. I live in South Florida. I'm in the process of getting all of my approvals, and hope to have gastric sleeve surgery mid August. I am both VERY NERVOUS and very excited to start a new chapter. I am 55 years old. Current weight (same as my high weight..) 271 Lbs. My goal weight is 185 Lbs. I have heart disease, diabetes, and sleep apnea. I had a SIX graft heart bypass at 41. I feel good, all things considered, other than painful knees, feet, and medication controlled depression--all weight related, I'm sure. My wife of 31 years is supportive of my decision after doing a lot of research on the subject. My adult children and my brother don't l…

I started my journey back in February 2016, at 266 my highest. I disgusted with my doctor. And she mentioned the biaratric surgery that can help me with my knees, because I was struggling just to walk. So I called my insurance company and ask them what I needed to do to get it done, they said get a psychiatrist and a nutritionist and they will take care of it so the Journey Begins. I did everything I was supposed to do within a month of talking to my nutrition and changing the way I eat, the hardest thing was to drink 30 minutes after I eat or before so by the time it was time for me to meet my surgeon I had already surpassed their goal for me. For me that was a lifesty…

Anyone else had this? I have reflux and pain behind my ribcage after eating, thanks to getting a hiatal hernia. My journey started in December. After my initial appointment with my surgeon, we found out that insurance required a 6 month supervised diet and a psych eval. I met these requirements and my sleeve was approved in a few days. I was excited because I thought I'd have surgery within 2 weeks, basically as soon as he could get me in. However, we are on week 4. When doing my pre-op exams (an egd, echocardiogram, bloodwork) we found that the cause of my pain after eating is a hiatal hernia. My surgeon wants to fix it at the time of the sleeve to prevent mo…

Hey guys I'm 16 days PO , just wondering how much could you all consume around this time? A couple days ago I got to add banana and Peanut Butter to my diet, out of a whole small banana and a tbsp of pb I found I could only consume a few bites of banana and almost the whole tbsp of PB.. As far as like a cup of pudding I can eat like the whole thing? Is that normal? I see people post things that's a year out and still can't hold very much.. I'm just curious?! I went through lapband surgery in September 2011, and was successful with the lapband. When I got pregnant they removed all fluids in my band. In September 2015 I went to get a fill to learn that my port was inverted and my band is slipping. I made the decision to convert from a band to a sleeve, and will have surgery tomorrow. I'm nervous and excited, hoping for a speedy recovery.

Hi, guys????, my name is Jennifer and I am 7 days from my surgery date. I am nervous and doing my pre-op liver shrinking diet. I already can tell the difference. I know that I've lost some weight. I did not want to weigh myself before I started the liver shrinking diet. I guess you start to lose your appetite because your stomach is shrinking from not eating as much for two straight weeks. Anyways, my surgery date is July 16th 2016 in Memphis Tennessee...I'm excited and nervous Sent from my Z828 using the BariatricPal App

Hi my name is Ev and I'm almost at my two year mark with the gastric sleeve. It's been a long journey for me. In the beginning I was so motivated and lost 60 pounds but once I started plateauing I had lost hope in myself. Now I've been on the right track eating healthier and working out. I officially lost 70 pounds and I'm no longer seeing 200 pounds on my scale! Woohoo! I am around 30 pounds away from my goal weight but I still do not feel comfortable with myself. I was wondering if anyone else looks in the mirror and still sees themselves at that beginning weight?

We're looking to create a documentary video which focuses on a patient’s pre and post surgery stories. We're looking for individuals who would be willing to be participants, who are willing to share their experiences which will in turn help other patient's who are considering or who have had the procedure who would like to share their concerns, challenges and point of view throughout their weight loss journey. We would like to film a day in your life or have you discuss your journey in a setting where you feel most comfortable. We would also be willing to film at an offsite location. If you're interested, please respond to this posting. Thanks!

Hi all just found this app so impressed with it so far Happy to join I just started the process yesterday had the info session Now I'm to wait for the one on one meetings. The speaker yesterday say it can take up to 8 months to have the surgery. A bit about me I was always larger than everyone else plus being 5'7 I hid it well Well in '97 my mom passed away I fell into a deep Depression which lasted 6-8 months. I have no me worries of this time. I "woke up" and saw a different person in the mirror. Then I got married and have 3 beautiful children ( 13 .11. And 6 yrs ) and my life got put on hold. HI EVERYONE! Now don't think I'm weird but I've always been curious about the step by step process of WLS. From first starting the process to it actually happening. This was how it happened for me. Important fact, I have BCBSIL PPO+ and I went to the University of Chicago. May 22 - Decide I was serious about VSG. Found Blue Distention Hospital, UofC and called. May 23 - Online seminar May 30 - Appointment with PCP requested recommendation letter. Also PCP did full blood workup. June 3 - Appointment with PCP got rec. letter and blood results. I requested a copy of workup. June 8 - Met surgeon, dietitian and psych for consultation. Gave them copy of workup June 1…

Hello everybody, Never posted on this forum before, but like I'm sure many others are, I'm a long-time lurker Decided to have bariatric surgery in December 2015, after having switched PCPs and going through a full physical with my new doctor. I'm 5'4", 32, have 3 young kids, and at the beginning of this journey (and actually also my preop weight) was 285lbs. Essentially my new doc told me I'm 100% healthy. Great blood work, excellent blood pressure, no problems at all. I expressed to him that I was concerned about being so overweight, and having been this overweight for more than 5 yrs without any success keeping it off. He suggested I look into bariatric sur…

My name's Cheyenne, I am 22 and I had gastric bypass surgery on September 2nd of last year and it was the best thing to ever happen to me. As a child, I struggled with anxiety, depression and stress as well as surfing from all from all three eating disorders and schizophrenia. By the age of 20, I was 338+ pounds, diabetic, suffered from acid reflux, fibromyalgia, had breathing problems and had a really bad and heavy irregular period. I knew I had to make a change, I knew that if I didn't do something, I'd die and never get to make my life dreams a reality so, after doing some serious research, I signed up for gastric bypass with Dr.Daniel Cronk of Methodist Hospital…

I booked my surgery through Healthier Weight (in the UK) for the 18th. Paid the deposit and did the paperwork. Then they said I would get a call directly from the hospital about a pre-surgery appointment to take bloods etc. Granted my timeframes are short, but I waited two days and no call. Got the call this afternoon wanting to see me Monday morning. I can't?! I already have something on Monday morning that can't be moved and that aside, if I wasn't lucky enough to be self employed - what employer would give time off at such short notice? Apparently they ONLY do these appointments on Monday mornings. So he's going back to speak to a nurse on Monday about doing it an…

Hi everyone, I have decided to have the sleeve done after battling with my weight for years. I just want to be healthy. When I first told my family they were completely unsupportive even though they know how much I have tried and failed to lose weight on my own. I thought I would just do it and not tell anyone but the guilt of having surgery without my mom knowing if something were to happen was weighing heavily on my conscious. Fast forward to now I have now lied and told my mom that they are recommending the surgery because they found out my hormone levels are all out of whack because of a small BENIGN growth inhibiting secretion of these hormones that aid in metaboli…

I'm still getting uses to the diet i'm hoping this app helps. My surgery was on June 28 and the only problem i seem to have was that my blood pressure was 179 over 98 it scared everybody so they put on blood pressure medicine while in the hospital and out of the hospital my follow up appointment it was 91 over 78 so they to me off the blood pressure medicine it was the only weird thing that happen with that surgery. Hello everyone. I'm a 22 year old female who just recently got sleeved on April 5th. I'm currently on the liquid diet about to be on pureed foods tomorrow. I just feel like I really need someone who understands what I'm going through because I feel I'm losing control.. I'm having a extremely hard time being able to get the recommended 64 oz of Water in and probably only get about half of it. It really is worrying me a lot and the fact that the Protein is just as hard. All i can think about is the new extreme boredom and emptiness I feel inside after my friend (food) was taken from me. I dont know what to do with myself anymore and sometimes just think of giving up. I feel…

So yesterday , i was starting to get some food , scrambled eggs, toast with butter on, mashed potatoes and fine ground beef. (supposed to be pureed but I figured my teeth would do the pureeing ) the only thing I can't get use to though is not drinking with my meals. I think this is the hardest so far. feels like it would help the whole process of getting the food down. Is it gonna be like that the whole time or just for the healing part? :-( but I'm still happy to start eating again.
