I have struggled with my weight my entire adult life. I lost more than 120 pounds in my 30s, only to gain it back plus MUCH more in my 40s and now 50s. I turned 55 last month. My daughter is expecting her first child in September, and I want to be able to pick up my grandson and play with him. I want to BE there for my family. And I want to ENJOY living again. I have arthritis in both knees; sleep apnea; high blood pressure; stress incontinence; asthma. I have been pre-diabetic for a few years but have never crossed the line into full blown diabetes, thankfully.I need to have this surgery, or I will become disabled. And to me, that would be worse than death. At my bar…

My surgery is on 6/7 and my surgeon told me to just do 1 week of pre op diet other wise today would have been my first day. I'm struggling so badly right now with "last meal syndrome" (don't know if that's a thing but I'm using it). I keep telling myself, " this is the last time you'll eat a cookie in a very long time!" "This is the last time you...etc" Should I start my pre op diet early to give myself more control? I'm also not exercising near as much as I was before. I don't feel ready for this surgery. I felt ready about a month or 2 ago and since it's such a long drawn out process I've almost gotten depressed about the waiting. Insurance made me wait 6 months b…

I had my surgery on April 13, 2016. I lost my first 19 two weeks out. In the last 2 weeks I've only lost about 5 pounds and I am freaking out. I'm back to work half days because I'm a mail carrier and my job is very active. I'm back at the gym 5 days a week. Only eating mushy foods abd liquids still. I get all of my Protein most days and all of my Water and then some. I know it's normal and that 2-3 pounds a week is still a great accomplishment considering I couldn't lose an ounce no matter how hard I tried before surgery. But I'm so scared that once I'm actually able to eat a little more, that my weight loss will stop! I think my body is broken. I get soooooo much exerci…

Hey all, SO... Yesterday was my pre-op assessment 8 days prior to surgery. My nurse was lovely and took (3 large!!!) test tubes of my blood for tests. My pre-op diet starts today, 1,000 cal per day low fat diet up until surgery date which is the 26th. I know I should feel lucky that they didn't assign me a liquid only diet but I kind of wish they had, it would be easier to follow! I might just try to do it that myself anyway to prepare for after surgery I'm not sure! Anyway I just wanted to check in and say, it all starts today! I'm nervous but have never been more ready tor anything in my life! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my sleeve op in Aug last year and have steadily and consistently lost weight, although it has slowed over the last couple of months. I never had any particular goal in mind and was just happy to lose ANY weight. I was previously size UK 18-20. So when I reached size 14 (a size I haven't been for a very long time) I went out and had a huge spending spree on new clothes, some of them better quality (ie more expensive) than I normally buy. I was SO happy! A couple of months on and they are now all too big! So my advice is: Make do with less/cheaper clothes until you are at least a year post-op and your weight has well and truly settled Good luck to everyone with …

So I started my pre op VCLD shakes and Soups today, surgery date is June 7th. I'm still hungry but I don't care cause it will all be worth it in a years time I'm pretty sure I'm only allowed to eat, well drink lol the shakes and soups but I'm going to ask my nutritionist tomorrow. But after reading some posts I think SF jelly might be okay?? I took some photos of myself today in only my bra and underwear and I can't believe how huge I've gotten, I suppose you just kind of pretend that you're not. But no need to pretend now as I intend to look very different eventually Two things I'm worried about: 1. Saggy and baggy skin. My surgeon said the only way you can comb…

I am a 22 year old now living in Florida and I had my roux en y gastric bypass surgery in Omaha, Nebraska back in September. Before the surgery, I was 330 pounds, unhealthy, unhappy and living with type 2 diabetes, knee pain and gastric reflux. It took me three years to convice myself to have the surgery and finally I did, I am so very happy I did. I no longer have diabetes or acid reflux and my knee pain is gone! I feel blessed to even had the surgery at the age of 21. My surgeon wad Dr. Daniel Crunk of Methodist Hospital and he was my life saver! Now I am down 71 pounds but having a bit of issues with gastrointestinal bleeding. It's really hard to get in to see…

It's been a while since my last post, but I wanted to take the time to encourage anyone out there that may be struggling. I started out a year ago weighing in at 340 lbs and today I weigh 214 lbs. That's right, 126 lbs in just 12 months! The transformation has been so phenomenal that I sometimes cannot believe the pictures when I see them side-by-side. I've taken a new interest in physical fitness and have started studying to get my certification in personal training. I used to hate having to work out all the time, but now it's my ultimate stress reliever. When running used to make me tired just thinking about it, I now think of running whenever I'm tired from a long day …

This past week I had my 3 month post op check up. other than disagreeing with my NUT, which I always do it went pretty well. My only real struggle is constipation which I am currently managing on benefiber, a stool softener and MOM capsules. If I am still needing the MOM at 6 months the NP said they would refer me to a gastroenterologist because she feels there are better medications (prescriptions) to manage the constipation. I have lost 37 pounds, (37!!!) which is just a bit more than 30% of my excess weight, and I am really quite pleased with my progress. The bloodwork all looked GREAT, except my WBC. it is high again. boo. Iron is excellent, Calcium -…

Going from lapband to sleeve on the 25th of May. Major emotional twists with this one. The band was a complete disappointment, at least for me. However since being unfilled, I have only gained 5lbs back. So a total of 20lbs down from original surgery. I'm grateful for the band because it really did reset my brain towards food, so a year and a half of adjusting my eating habits for the most part is going to really help this journey I'm about to go on. Hopefully I never see this person again. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

Hi everyone. I was sleeved on March 2nd and at this point in time I am very disheartened in my journey. I have only lost 30 lbs thus far and feel I've fought very hard for even that which includes a lot of working out. I eat right and have been following the guidelines yet I am barely losing. Is anyone else having a similar issue? Most stories I see show significantly more weight loss within this timeline compared to me. Additionally and this is tmi (sorry in advance) but at this point I have to ask - this far down the road does anyone else still experience extreme diarrhea? About 90% of the food I eat cases this to the point I'm afraid to eat with friends or go out if…

Has anyone experienced a stall for the first time post op and then begin to lose weight at a slow pace? In afraid that my sleeve may have ran its course early in the race. I was sleeved on March 21st and I've only lost 43 pounds. I feel I should've lost more by now. Shouldn't I be losing at least 5 pounds per week? I don't eat a lot and I'm trying to get as much liquid as possible. Anyone have any suggestions or advice? PLEASE!! Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

Hi Everyone, i'm Erin! I just turned 30 years old last week and my surgery date is April 25th. My Doctor is Dr. Onopchenko (he's awesome!) from the Atlanticare group in South Jersey. It took me awhile to get here but i'm nervous and excited to be exactly two weeks away from the date. I was referred by my PCP in May of 2015 and went for my first appointment with Dr. O in June of 2015. I got all of my clearances done pretty quickly and could have done the surgery as early as end of August last year. However, at the time I wasn't ready and I knew that my clearances were good until May of 2016. At the time, the thought of having the surgery seemed to scare me into thinking …

I had my surgery done this past Monday and was released from the hospital just yesterday. Recovery was delayed in the hospital because of my Dopa Responsive Dystonia and had some Dystonic Storms that freaked everyone out, but finally got home! I am very eager to continue this new journey I am on. Have to say, I know this is new for me, but cannot for the life of me figure out how I can stay hydrated . It's been a long time coming but I've got a pretty firm date of June 7th for my sleeve surgery. There's been so many hoops to jump through to get here. My doctor had to appeal twice to my insurance company for them to approve the surgery. Honestly, when they denied it I was really depressed. My faith helped my through and I just got a call yesterday that the appeal was reviewed and approval given. I actually did the liquid diet for a week with a surgery date of next week when I got a call about the denial from the insurance company. I can't believe I have to start it again next week. It's gonna be so much harder now that I know what's coming. I really haven't looked i…

Hey sleevers! I was sleeved 8/31/2015 in NJ! My SW: 414 lbs (that becomes alot easier to say as I am losing weight, but my god was it tough to say in the beginning ) My CW: 296 and my GW (for now, this is what I set in the beginning of this journey) is 170lbs. I'd love to hear from everyone on how they are doing! (especially august sleevers!) If there is one thing ive learned through all of this, it is to take pictures! Some days I get down on myself because I have so much farther to go, but I go back to pictures and it brings me back to reality. here is my before and after picture, and Id love to see everyone elses! same shirt, 118lb difference

I've been researching and reading about the mini bypass versus the full bypass. Some questions are bugging me and I want to put them here. I need some reassurance and bolstering of confidence. 1. Does the mini bypass help with reflux and Barrett's Esophagus? I know the full bypass does. 2. I keep hearing about vomiting and diarrhea from this procedure. Is that inevitable? I've had IBS so I'm used to that. 3. If I avoid foods that are bad for my system and the bypass will that help keep the vomiting and dumping to a minimum? 4. I'm getting scared. I'm most afraid of losing the comfort food that helps my loneliness..only until the reflux kicks in and I'm sick for a few…

I am feeling nervous and a little overwhelmed. I know I am nearing my 6/3 date for my procedure. I have watched more YouTube videos than I can count. I am usually a very "open-book" type of person, but I have received some negative responses from some of my co-workers. I was shocked by some of the comments. I know I was warned about this possibility, but I still didn't think my friends would react this way. Therefore, I am limiting my openness about having this procedure for now. I am a person who has never been rail thin. I have been of normal weight until I was in my mid-twenties. I had many medical problems at that time and rapidly gained 30lbs, then another 30, and…

Well I finally did it, took me over 10 yrs to commit, but I decided on the Gastric sleeve last October and took the steps necessary to make the surgery a reality! I've just realised I have lost 100lbs! I only weigh once a month so this actually happened a couple of weeks ago! I've gone from 260lb to 160lb, although it may be a bit less than that now. I've been debating wether to post on this. I've decided to because I've felt very alone on this forum as it seems there aren't many wls patients who have also struggled with this type of eating disorder and I want to share my experience in case anyone is out there and afraid to speak up about this issue. I've had an eating disorder for about 15 years. I've gone through periods of anorexia, bulimia, and obsessive binge eating. My weight has gone from average(145-150) to overweight (250) to now underweight at 115. Five years before I had wls surgery I went through a rough period of bulimia/ binge eating and sought out treatment. I was in a 30 day outpatient program. It h…

Greetings, all. I'm a newbie. I'm a 5'1 mother to a three-year-old son and a professor by trade. My pre-op weight was 212. I was 192.8 on the day of my surgery, Feb 25th, and today I'm 176.2. My surgeon was Dr. Thomas Roshek in Plano/Frisco, TX. I'm thrilled with the surgery and the 35.2 lb weight loss, but I don't have a large support system in general, and I have a support system of exactly 0 in relationship to my surgery. I didn't know how much I'd need someone (or a small village?) to walk this journey with me until now, my fifth week post op. My husband is not supportive. He doesn't overtly try to undermine my progress, but he doesn't ask questions. He hasn't …

Today marks 30 days post up. Here are some of my observations GOOD- lost 33 pounds since the surgery. I did not have a pre op diet. Recovery went great. I've been eating solid food since day 13. I am eating 3-4 oz of Protein per meal, fish is easiest, chicken takes a while to eat. Never had nausea, no vomiting. A lot of energy when I wake up in the morning. I get 70-80 oz of Water a day. Got clearance this week for light weight lifting, and anything cardio, including playing basketball( no swimming yet). Fat clothes are way too big now, I've moved on to the skinnier clothes I bought last year when I thought I was going to lose the weight. Surgeon said I don't have to se…

I'm living in SD currently, but had my surgery done in MT (long story). I got released to go back home after my 1 week appointments. The drive back to SD took a lot out of me yesterday. Had my 3 week post open appointment yesterday and found out I've dropped 32.3 pounds. I couldn't believe the scale. I was all up in the air with me head on the clouds until I went home to finish packing. I picked a a heavier box than I probably should have been carrying and to be blunt I shat myself.
