Exactly one year ago today I got my sleeve. As part of my process of losing weight, I have decided to post my story. Warning, emotional dump below. Thank you to everyone who reads. I am so grateful to BP and to everyone who has the courage to share as I learn and am inspired by your stories – so I decided to post my own. I cannot imagine going through WLS without BP and you all. Figuring out why I got fat – and how to heal myself I have literally spent the past 30 years in different types of therapy trying to figure out why I do not take care of myself, love myself or feel worthy of love. Through the process, I have learned a lot about myself, done some hard wor…

So I'm still in the beginning stages of my Weight loss journey. I had just my my first appointment with my bariatric surgeon I was told by that office that I would need to check in with my primary doctor every month for six months on a weight loss program. So I go this morning just to get weighed in and I have to wait an hour, I've only been with this doctor for maybe a little under a year. I have asthma, I have been there multiple times now, she never suggests any preventative care, the last time I was there I mentioned my weight and that I feel it's a huge factor with my asthma, she looks in my chart and says oh.. Well I see you've been overweight for several years …

I'm one month post-op today. I've taken some time to reflect on the experience to date, and thought I would share my thoughts for those of you that are interested (it's going to be fairly long): First, the stats: HW: 333 (February 9th, 2016) SW: 287 (March 21st, 2016) CW: 262 (April 21st, 2016) Experience: 1) This is a full time job. I'm surprised at how much of my day is consumed with planning and counting calories, making sure to be constantly drinking to meet liquids goals, and eating even small amounts takes a LONG time. If you are not completely focused on the task it can be hard to get your required Protein and fluids. 2) I do not enjoy eating at all. …

Getting the sleeve has been the biggest regret of my life. I wish i could warn everyone and I will. If you want the new normal to be throwing up all the time and being sick then this is the choice for you. I am so mad at myself for not having enough self control to just stop eating so much and to just work out. Im 3 weeks post op and i just am so mad at myself, the insurance company and everyone. Yes you lose weight but at what cost? Kindest regards, phuckyourtruth

Had my first appointment yesterday. It was a great experience...long, but great. One of the funniest things happened while I was there. This young lady was already seated in the room and started talking a mile a minute. She was so excited. When the gastro nurse came in - we all started hearing loud snores. My friend woke her up, and then the surgeon came in. She was laid back in her chair, shirt all up - sawing logs. The surgeon was irritated and I got so tickled I couldn't speak or breath for laughing with tears running down my face. (I must say she wasn't sleeping due to a medical condition.) Overall - I love my surgeon. I don't have to have any other tests. I schedul…

I was sleeved April 20, 2015 and have my one year follow-up appointment today, This year has flown by. I am over half-way to goal. I am regaining my mobility. A year ago I needed my mom to drive me and a step to get into her SUV (I couldn't get into her sedan). I couldn't do my own grocery shopping, and couldn't walk or stand very long. Today, I am driving myself, and will probably stop and shop after my appointment. I am swimming laps 3-4+ times a week (since starting to use a fitness tracker a few months ago, I have swum over 150 miles in laps). I sleep well and don't oversleep much anymore. I am starting to be able to participate in life again. If I don't get …

I did over 5 minutes on the elliptical. This may not seem big for many but I had only used the elliptical one other time since I joined the gym and barely made it to 3 minutes. Tonight I decided to give it another try and actually did over 6 minutes. It was much easier this time. So happy! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello everyone! My name is Dana, I am 20 years old and I am getting the sleeve done hopefully late May/early June. Last year, I was supposed to have the sleeve surgery in August. However, suddenly my approved insurance coverage was then unapproved. It was devastating. But, I tried my best to eat healthy and begin healthier habits, anyway. Then, earlier this year my mother found out that our insurance is covering the surgery and I jumped back into it. In fact, she's getting the Bypass done next month! Anyway, I have yet to schedule my surgery date, but everything I need is done, now just waiting for my appointment next week Tuesday to set a date! Eeek! Right now, …

Hey Y'all, I'm really hoping that this forum will prove to be beneficial in helping to guide me through my journey. Since turning 40 (I'm now 50) I have been consistently gaining 10 pounds per year. Easy math now has me about 100 pounds overweight and completely unhappy in my own skin. Not to mention the toll it has taken on my body. I have severe joint pain, difficulty breathing and my labs are starting to go in the wrong direction. No matter what I do my weight just keeps going up I made the decision several months ago to take the first step. After doing some research I'm thinking that the sleeve is the way for me to go. I have 10 days until my consult and I…

I had an inspired moment sat on the end of my Dr's bench 6 weeks ago. So sick of being ill and depleted of energy, I asked if I would be a candidate for WLS? (No idea where the thought came from!) So it was a whirlwind the first few weeks, tests, appointments, diagnosis, talking, thinking, dreaming, wishing, dreading, worrying, etc etc etc.... Fast forward to today, collected my Bi-Pap machine and tonight starts my new sleepy me, yipeeeeeeee! I've also started the food plan too, with drinking my quoted Water intake. I'm ready. Sooooo so ready. Hubby is on board. (Now) Kids now what to expect. Maybe surgery by mid July...... Sent from my iPhone using the B…

the first 2 weeks I lost 20lbs. I was so excited. But a week ago I stopped losing and when I got on the scales this morning I have gained 8 lbs. I am so upset that I am considering go beck to the full liquid/puree stage.I am so discouraged. I don't know what to do. Of course starting the night before last I couldn't get ward. Same thing yesterday all day. I took my temperature and it was 101.8. I called the surgeon on call and because of our spring/winter storm he told me to go the local ER and have them call him. They said I have a UTI and put me on Bactrim. But I feel there is something wrong. I hate a bunch of strawberries this morning and it barely filled m…

I am on my day 7 of 10 liquid diet for surgery 4/18/16. Got in a huge argument with my husband last night. He ended up saying the he thinks VSG is stupid and he was never on borad with my life change. I told him that he took vows to support me no matter what. So later I just thought he is going to be the one not happy with himself and unhealthy in the long run. I am not! I am going to finally take off my fat suit and live my life. I started this journey by contacting my insurance company in December of 2014 and getting the covered doctors info and call and doing research on the different options. I made an appointment with a dr for January 8, 2015. I did my weight in(265) and started the nutrition classes. I finished in May and was on vacation when the dr's office called to set up my surgery. I had no problems getting all requirements done and paperwork turned in and things went smooth throughout this process. I scheduled surgery for over the summer as I run a home daycare and have three teenaged daughters who help out and could take over for a few days. My surgery went great(June 15, 2015) ,…

I wish they knew more about gastric bypass. I am 10 years post of. My surgeries (yes plural) were a nightmare. The first one laperscoptic was fine except unknown to me or the surgeon I had a hernia so when I got home and was throwing up and so ill my best friend rushed me back to the hospital only to be rushed into surgery to operate on the hernia and now I had a full 10" incision on my stomach but still not awful until the the surgeon had them remove my stitches. I went home and within few hours I coughed and my intestines burst out. I called the clinic and they told me to just come in it was just my stomach as I am holding my intestines in my hand. I had seen enough in…

100 pounds is such a huge number. Heck it's an entire teenager! I began my journey on May 26, 2015 when I skyped with a nutritionist from BariatricPal. She set me on a path and plan for my pre-op diet and with much determination I never looked back. I still have 30 pounds to my goal weight and my plan is to make that by the end of the year. I used Dr Jesus Martin Lopez in Tijuana. My experience with them was sooo amazing. Dr Lopez is a talented surgeon and he is kind and cares about his patients. I have since recommended him multiple times and even traveled with a friend to have her surgery in February. I remember thinking when I had the surgery that I would be happ…

Today marks one year since I had my Gastric Sleeve surgery, and I can only say that was the best decision I have ever made. I have lost 120 pounds since the surgery, and I haven't had any problems at all. I do need to get back on track when it comes to exercising because sometimes I get lazy. The day of my surgery was April 14, 2015, and I was 275 pounds that day. Today I am very happy to say I'm 155 pounds, and even though I still have 10 pounds more to lose to be on my goal weight I am very proud of how far I've come. I honestly don't remember the last time I weighted what I weight now or wore medium size clothing, and size 7 dress and pants size. It is unbelievable, an…

I've been looking into weight loss surgery for a few years unfortunately my in network surgeons you have to be 18. No I don't want any negative comments about adolescents getting WLS. I'm currently almost 18 and my surgeon has agreed to start the process even though my surgery will not be until after I am 18. I'm going out of state for college and I would of loved to have become healthy before school started but now I am looking around December for my surgery date. I guess any tips, any encouraging words, and even better I just wanna hear everyone's stories! Anyone else braving the holiday season with a new surgery? I ate thin crust pizza slice I was fine. I ate a fiery taco from Taco Bell I was fine. However, those are not good choices! I want to make my own lunches for work but I don't need a lot. I wondering what type of wrap y'all have tried or pita bread and how did it do? I'm 4 months out and down 78 lbs that's with a 2 week stall which I broke a couple days ago. Am I losing too fast? Was a 54 in my waist and now I'm a 40 and dropping. I think it's working to good!

It's been two years now since my sleeve, and it's the best choice I ever made. My weight is stable +/-10 pounds or so, and it's relatively easy to take off weight that creeps up. I can eat pretty much all kinds of foods now. I still eat relatively small amounts, eat slowly and with small bites. I don't drink with my meals except a small sip now and then. I focus on low carb and high Protein meals. I eat plenty of fats. I still eat my protein first at every meal. I try to stay away from carbs, particularly refined carbs like breads, sugar, honey, rice, potatoes, corn, etc. I don't mean I never eat those things, but I try to limit it or I start to gain. How much can I e…
