Does anyone else have sleep apnea that has gone away after surgery? I am doing whatever it takes to have this surgery, but I am a bit upset. I just had to go and get a CPAP machine because I have very mild sleep apnea. I'm on the lowest setting the machine has. I can't help but feel that it is just a doctor wanting more money. I was told that the apnea will probably go away after surgery but I still have to have my CPAP machine for these few weeks that I have left before surgery, and right after. Ugh. Wasteful. 3. I ran on the treadmill for the first time ever. It was short bursts throughout my workout, but I did it. I would not have even thought about running 12 months ago!! I did it!!! I am excited that I could do it and that I actually wanted to do it!!! I was sleeved in June 2015 and I am down 91 pounds. I feel great and can do so much more than I ever thought I would be able to do!!! I am loving my "new life"!!!!!

This is my second week going to the gym I go 4-5 days out the week doing Zumba, power hr, Bosu, and yoga. I really enjoy it and I have my workout partners right there beside me, can't be…

  5. Hi..I am going to have the sleeve soon..the only hoop I have left to jump through is the dietician seminar and that is scheduled for September 4th. I have been reading and of course many people are giving advice..and one recommended a book called "The Art and Science of Low Carb Living" ..the science is making sense but I am 5'6" and at my first visit with the surgeon I weighed 335..so I needed to lose 193 lbs reach my goal weight of 142..I not willing to take a chance I won't lose my weight and I believe the sleeve is a tool to do that, but I don't want to be just skinny I want to be really healthy and strong. Can I do a low carb high fat diet with the sleeve?

As of today I have lost 200lbs. I started at 439 and today 239. My goal was to reach 239 by April 1st, but with God's help, hard work at the gym by burning 2000 - 2100 calories a day in cardio and weightlifting and eating around 1100 to 1200 calories a day i have hit my goal much earlier than expected. I'm so proud of myself because i haven't weighed under 250 since i was 13 years old and I'm 38 now. For anyone thinking they can't lose the weight use my story as inspiration because it can be done, and i will help anyone that wants to try. I have to thank my husband and kids for keeping me focused everyday and loving me. I also can't forget the rest of my family, who has a…

  11. I started this process in June/2015 the surgery was August/2015. I went through so many different emotions, one of the largest hurdles was bored eating. My family didn't support me. The only 2 people that did was my husband and sister. Everyone else said it was the "easy way out". I couldn't play with my children. Go on field trips with them or anything like that. I would sit on the bench during the time at the park because I couldn't keep up with them with out feeling out of breath and embarrassing them. I Had to sleep downstairs sometimes because I couldn't make it up stairs. (Laziness) Coming to this decision was never an easy task, but ultimately the best decision I'v…

  12. My journey began when I met Stacey Yanez threw a friend of mine. I had been researching surgery in Mexico because my insurance would not pay in the states. Not only did her and her husband Bill work for a medical tourism company.... They lived in Mexico. They drive, eat, work, sleep and experience life in Mexico. They know the doctors and hospitals. They see with their own eyes and hear with their own ears. Nothing is word of mouth! So when Stacy said she lived in Arkansas at one point in her life I knew that was the sign I needed to trust this lady. Then she recommended a doctor. She didn't recommend this doctor just for sales and marketing she recommended the doctor bec…

The operation was done in Belgium by Dr Mignon at Elyzea, However I have been told that he no longer works there. I am now at a loss to my next step??? any help would be appreciated

I've been reading a lot of posts about people who are supporting each other as surgery date buddies. I think that's such a great idea and thought I'd try to find one too. A little about myself: I'm a 51 year old, mother of 6 (yours, mine & ours family). Have 2 amazing grandchildren and a wonderfully supportive hubby. We live in northern Alberta, Canada. My husband is originally from eastern Oregon so we travel back and forth a lot. I started my WLS journey in January 2014 and have worked with dieticians, exercise therapist, councillor and doctor. I was approved for surgery in May 2014 and have been patiently waiting for this surgery date. Ok, maybe not patiently!…

I just wanted to post today because I hit a significant milestone. I am in the 300's! My scale this morning read 398.8 and I am thrilled. I can't remember the last time I was under 400. It has to have been over a decade ago and maybe two. I was really good about sticking my head in the sand for a very long time. Just saying the numbers out loud is a huge change for me. I also started treatment on my lymphedema a couple of weeks ago. I met with the PT pre-surgery and we decided to wait until after surgery to start aggressive treatment. It already seems to be helping. I am also starting a creative writing class this evening in a neighboring city. I couldn't have done th…

I began my liquid diet on 2/1. Had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy on 2/15. It has not been a smooth ride. I have stayed dehydrated. Everything I attempt to drink feels like it gets stuck and then backs up into my esophagus, giving me horrible heartburn. I am still on a liquid diet. Last Friday I had 2 liters of fluid through an IV. It didn't help. Today my doctor informed me that I will have a picc line inserted Monday morning so that I can receive liquids at home while I sleep at night. I think he wants to try this for at least 2 more weeks. If this doesn't work, then he will resort to a CT scan with contrast. My diet right now consists of sugar free Popsicles.…

My surgery was on Tuesday around noon and I left the hospital around 4-5 hours later! I felt so good from the anesthesia that I told the nurse "This can't be this easy". I actually refused the wheelchair and walked out on my own. Well, I was somewhat right. Second day was a little rougher just because I was tired and a bit sore. Day 3 is better and I'm getting all my Vitamins and Fluid down but it ain't easy. I know it will improve daily. Got to start getting my walking in! Just feel too tired right now.

So I had my surgery done on 3/9 at around 1230. I was hoping to stay in the hospital only one night but my surgeon decided to keep and extra day. Especially since when I drank he contrast (eww) it still showed in x-rays that it was sitting on top of my stomach. However the next day, they did another x-ray and it's all better now. Walking is not that bad just full of gas, and the hunger is curved, I'm surprised. Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App

I got my gastric bypass surgery on February 16, 2016. I had been preparing seriously for this surgery for about a year, researching, documenting, and questioning everything from the good, the bad to the ugly, the physical, the emotional and the psychological. As ready as I was, I was not ready for this. I understood intellectually about the lack of appetite, but I had no idea what it meant in real life. I had never not been hungry. I was not ready for the lack of energy. I was not ready for the distaste of some foods that I truly like (the first two weeks pretty much everything – and I loved Protein shakes/smoothies before). Most of all, I was not ready to give up my v…

Now I've had it tightened three times over the last few months and now I think it might be where it should be. But I can't figure out if it truly is or if it's too tight or still too loose. Yesterday, I couldn't even drink Water, I think something had gotten stuck. Eventually, it moved through and I was able to drink and eat again. I'm still able to eat some things without a problem, but then I'm also very successful with other things. I was in the ER with a post op infection so mentioned it to the doctor. I spent 5 days in hospital with the diagnosis of multiple pulmonary embolism (blood clots) in my left lung. I was told it was from flying so soon after surgery without being on any anti clotting medication. Many don't have this problem but discuss with your doctor prior to surgery.
