I finally have my surgery date! I got it yesterday when I signed my consent forms at my surgeons office. I go in for my sleeve on May 9th! I couldn't be more excited, but I can feel the nerves creeping in too. I won't let them sabotage me though. My journey has been different from a lot of the stories I've been reading on here. I'm in Canada, so things are done a little differently here. I had my family doctor put in my referral a year and a half ago, and 13 months ago I started jumping through the hoops needed before surgery. I started with a scope down the throat in March 2015, and heard nothing until late November 2015 when I got the call from my surgeons of…

I've been looking into weight loss surgery for a few years unfortunately my in network surgeons you have to be 18. No I don't want any negative comments about adolescents getting WLS. I'm currently almost 18 and my surgeon has agreed to start the process even though my surgery will not be until after I am 18. I'm going out of state for college and I would of loved to have become healthy before school started but now I am looking around December for my surgery date. I guess any tips, any encouraging words, and even better I just wanna hear everyone's stories! Anyone else braving the holiday season with a new surgery? Hello all! I have been lurking in the background here for awhile now. I am 45 years old, 5'4 and weigh 235 pounds and have decided to take the plunge. I just had my first visit with my surgeon 1 week ago and had the work up and visit with nutritionist Wednesday....my BMI is 40.3 with slightly elevated HTN, A1C of 6.1 and high cholesterol. I am an RN and very excited to get this process started to healthier new me. I have a tentative date of 4/27, pending insurance approval but I already know they will approve it. My surgeon does not require any weight loss prior to surgery and there is only 1 visit with social worker and nutritionist required for auth. I'm seeing so many …

My best friend went in for a sleeve on the 8th last month, walked into the hospital, with all her hopes and dreams. After the surgery, she stayed two days and went home with the usual supplies and instructions, they did the swallow test before she left the hospital and everything was good she was told. The nurses at the hospital told her it was surgery and she should be expecting pain, that even with pain meds she would hurt. So over the weekend she hurt, more and more, the liquid pain meds eventually did not help and she returned to the hospital on the 12th, having difficulty taking deep breaths. They looked around and and said that her stomach opened up, and was leak…

I had my vertical sleeve 4/2013. I did very well with it, so well that despite having PCOS, a history of infertility and being on 2 forms of birth control I found myself pregnant 12/2014. Again, did well. Gained 17lbs through the whole pregnancy and had a perfect 7lb baby. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within a month. Then I injured my back at the end of February. I'm in therapy 3x a week, I can't do much of anything (including work) and I'm getting depressed. I KNOW I'm eating more, and I need to get back on track before I can't button my jeans :-( I have another month before they figure I'll be back to work. What do you do when you can't DO anything? …

Just sharing my experience with pregnancy and lap band. I had lapband through True Results about 2 years ago. I tipped the scales around 300lbs. At surgery time I was around 281. My lowest weight I reached was 206. At that weight I ended up being dehydrated and as far as food went, it wasnt an option. I had 8ccs and no food wnet down. But I was losing weight so I was happy. I had some fluid removed to about 6ccs then I became pregnant. My weight shot up to 271lbs at the time I had my daughter was Jan. 1, 2016. I am currently at 223 lbs. I developed severe acid reflux in my pregancy. I thought it was normal. I found out my band has almost slipped. I had to have all the flu…

Well its been three weeks and I have lost 20 lbs. but nothing in the last three days. So needless to say I am discouraged! I am wondering if some of my medications are hindering my weight loss. My medications is the reason I had the sleeve and not the bypass. I know I need support and I have some support to offer. If you take a lot of medication I have found that putting it in applesauce either crushed or whole helps get them down. But you have to plan your meals around it because sometimes fluids and that much applesauce will fill you up/

I had VSG surgery on February 5. It has been 9 weeks, and I have lost 20 lbs. It seems so slow. I know, I shouldn't compare. I know, I should be patient. I know, I should stay off the scale. BUT... Does anyone else who was a slow loser at first have a success story to share? I can't shake the feeling that I will be the ONE person that doesn't lose significant weight. Just a little reassurance will help set my mind at ease (Yes, most days I meet my Water and Protein goals. No issues with eating or drinking what I am supposed to, and I avoid carbs/sugar/etc. Thanks Kristin

Soooo I just got my confirmation e-mail from my surgeon's office. Kinda freaking out right now, in an extremely good way. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, I have hope again. I had been so depressed for the past year, I had given up on myself; everytime I attempted a new diet, I'd lose 20 pounds and gain back 30-40. Since January 2015, I ballooned up from 2220-230lbs to nearly 275lbs. I stopped going out (except to work), gave up on my appearance (except for makeup; I used to be a makeup artist, so it's my creative outlet). Anyway... I got approved for the surgery date I picked, guys! I asked for April 4th. Since 4 is my lucky number, I thought 4/4/1…

I have recently decided to start the process for bariatric surgery. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I have had feelings of low to no self-worth, refuse to go on vacations and when forced to, it's frequently the worst memories I have. I'm a workaholic. I find that working all the time keeps my mind off my weight. I tend to shy away from the mirror totally. I'm a 28 year old professional guy. I graduated with my masters at 21, am a CPA, and have had a successful career since graduation. However, advancement in my personal life has never progressed because of my weight. I finally had enough. Last January I started with a personal trainer... And over …

I am 47 Yes old and have finally received my date of surgery (May 9). I start pre-op diet on Apr 28. I'm close to 270 lbs at 4'10" and have been over 200lbs for at least half my life. Feeling overwhelmed. Going with my Mom to a support group at the hospital next week. I just want to make sure I have everything I need to be successful. And nervous how this will impact my work schedule (most days 12-15hr days). Ugh.

Hi! I'm new here, glad I found this place. I had my gastric sleeve 4/4/16 and my surgeon said it was a textbook surgery. I was up right away walking but just couldn't get the gas out. Every sip of Water or broth I had brought some serious gas pains and I even had a sharp stabbing pain in the stomach area. My surgeon felt it was best for me to stay another day. I continued walking, I'd make 3-4 laps around the ward, the nurses said I was doing an awesome job. However, I still couldn't/hadn't passed any gas. On day 2 the nurses really started to push the fluids more. I had my first popsicle and learned that the sips of water I was taking must have been to big for…

Dear Sleeve, While I prepared myself for your coming, I did not expect the surprises you brought to me. My O2 was uncontrolled, Alarms continued to go off- waking me up from my rest. The Nurses kept telling me to breath. My poor husband was so worried. We did not prepare for the scare. Sleeve- while I planned for your arrival, I did not expect to go home without pain meds. Doctors . new practice - no pain meds except tylenol- why me. First night home as a nightmare. Vomiting, Pain, unable to sleep. First set of WLS patients where he decided to use this new protocol. Nausea is my constant companion since you arrived. The struggle to get one ounce of liquid in me. The drea…

To all you newbies out there - don't believe all the happy people at a week out. Well you can believe what you want but I believed a little too much. Pre op... Up until the minute of my surgery I had read these forums. 99% of post op patients had what seemed to me, no pain. Like they were up playing baseball on day 2 post op. That wasn't the case for me. I am now almost five months post op and until about my sixth week I had huge regrets! I was week all the time. Exhausted. Depressed. HUNGRY. And on top of all that I only lost 8 lbs in that whole six weeks. It was insane. I literally wished I hadn't had the surgery. After the sixth week I started to feel good. Really go…

I have a "low" bmi but gained 40 lbs in the last 12 years while trying unsuccessfully to diet and excersize. My mother followed similar path and now is 70 morbidly obese high blood pressure you name it. This tuns in our family and Ive decided I am not going to wait. I consider this a proactive sleeve. Still I have my doubts but for the first time in 20 years im not stressed about my weight or my future weight. I feel like I have made a decision to take control. I watched my mom suffer her entire life and I don't want that. I found a great doc in texas ... Who understood why I wanted to do this. He said research shows once your 40 lbs overweight there is only a 5 percen…

Well I finally got out of that ugly 2mt stall and I've accomplished my first goal with a 5️⃣0️⃣lb lost!!! YAYY!!!!! I'm so excited and so proud of myself. I've been hitting the gym up 4-5 days out the week working out for no less than an hour and I must say I feel better and I'm seeing results[emoji4] I've really started paying more atte attention to my intake and realized I was doing my very best in the last two months so I'm sure that contributed a lot to the length of my stall. But I'm glad I went through it now I can appreciate my achievements and know what I have to continue doing to reach my goal of 100lbs...I'm half way there yal and I'm 6mts post op[emoji4]

Update: this is day 5 of liquid diet. I have lost 6 pounds since starting the Optifast shakes. I turn 30 on April 21. Highest 227lbs. Current: 210lbs. Height 5'4". My surgery is tomorrow morning at 830am. I have to be at the hospital at 6:30am. Eep. I'm nervous but ready to join the post op folks. Note: Bikini pic was 10 years ago after I had lost 60 pounds without weight loss surgery. Obviously, I didn't maintain the loss. My biggest fear is failing at this journey.

So I am a 43-year-old male from Pittsburgh. I had a starting weight of 314, which dropped to 300 during the supervised pre-op insurance waiting period. I chose Dr. Anita Courcoulas as my surgeon. I had no pre-op liquid diet to attend to, just nothing after midnight the day before surgery. SURGERY DAY I was to arrive at 10:45 AM with a table time of 12:45 PM. Everything went on time. Starting in pre-op with an IV, consent forms, and a face to face with both the Surgeon and the Anesthesiologist. An interesting side note, from about 12:00 PM until at least 6:00 PM my family had no access to where I was. I knew this going into it and opted to just get to the …

I am new to this forum and just celebrated 8 weeks post-op! I am both happy with my weight loss (30 pounds so far) and impatient at the same time. Can anyone else relate? Now that I can eat more normal foods again I am probably not getting as much Water as my body needs but I am able to hit 50-60 grams of Protein each day. I have been hesitant to start exercising because I still feel heavy and awkward... But I know it's time! Well I am ready ! I keep thinking , I was 18 the last time I was thin and this year I will be 50 . I have been on all kinds of diets with luck , but then I come off the diet and I pack on more. The low carb kind of is the mainstay for diet choices , so not to far off for post surgery. I will be going to Tijuana bariatric on April 19th with my girl friend . I am looking forward to life and fitting in to a roller coaster! Thankfully I have a great family and friends to back me. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Hey guys, so I am 5 feet tall, which is really short! I was hoping to hear from some other short Sleevers, so I can have a better expectation of weight loss. How much weight did you guys lose/ how quickly? Does anyone have before and after photos? It's crazy when your this short, because the BMI charts all day that I am supposed to weigh between 95-105lbs; I can't even imagine what I would look like at 105lbs. Anyway, if there are any short Sleevers out there who could give me some insight that would be awesome. Thank you guys!!!

I am 15 months post op. I had some setbacks because I had both legs operated on & both legs had complications. Took me several months to heal & I wasn't able to walk & exercise. I didn't gain any weight during that 4 months but I didn't lose any either. I have lost a total of 175 lbs. About 50 lbs short of my goal. I'm back on track having lost 10 lbs last month. I eat around 1200 calories daily & cut out everything bad I was eating. No fast food, no fried food, no sweets, no sodas, & no beer. I went a year without coffee. That nearly killed me. Now finally I'm back to drinking coffee. My weight was 410 & I'm at 245 now. I was diabetic taking 2 sho…

Hi everyone! I am very happy to be joining this forum and looking to all the information and seeing everyone's transformations. I'm currently 30 yo woman and have struggled with weight all my life. I was born 10lbs and suffered really bad asthma as a child that definitely contributed to my weight gain. At the age of 18, Im 5'3.5" and weighed 301. I worked out for 2-3 years and changed my diet and managed to get down to 190. I still wasn't satisfied. Today, I'm currently back at 237. I finally decided it's time to consider weight loss surgery (WLS). At the age of 18, my doctor did not recommend WLS because I was too young. I realized that a healthy diet and exe…

Surgery scheduled for Mon, April 11. Yesterday went to pre op, everything went well..... Until I receive this morning a call from my surgeon's office: my ECG had some kind of irregularity and now I have to present a clearance from a cardiologist until tomorrow or my surgery will be cancelled! Luckily I was able to schedule an app for tomorrow morning, but at this time I am not sure if I will be able to have my sleeve next Monday. Yes, I understand that we must to be extra cautious, I am not a girl anymore.... But anyway, what a bummer! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello everyone! I am MonkVSG, and I am currently 10 days post-op. I want to introduce myself, and share my journey so far... I am a 44-year-old educator, mom of 5, and military spouse. I have been overweight my entire life, have been over 200 pounds for about 9 years now, but only after the birth of my 5th child (now 4 years old) did my weight spiral into the “out of control” range. I had tried Weight Watchers, MediFast, and counting calories, working with a nutritionist in a military hospital, all of which worked for a time before I would gain the lost weight back plus more. I began researching VSG last summer, but it was only at Christmastime that I decided I would…
