I am participating in an obesity study though Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, LA. I have been through several stages of the trials and have just been approved by the surgery board for banding. My first pre-op with the surgeon in June 7th. I'm very excited and I have a million questions, but this forum has really answered many of the questions I've had. My name is Lisa and I'm a wife and mother of two grown children.(Our oldest is married, and our baby is getting married in October). I was born and raised in south Louisiana. I have been overweight since I got pregnant with the oldest. At one time in my life I was 135 lbs. I gained 75 lbs wit…

Ok. So I've read 'embrace the stall' and I'm really trying to. The thing is- I'm worried I'm causing the stall. You see, my NUT says I should be eating 1000-1200 calories with a relatively balanced mix of Proteins and carbs and fats, but I find I'm only able to get in 700-900 calories and every time I reintroduce carbs above 30+ grams my weight loss seems to stop. Ok that's not entirely true. I probably could eat more calories but I'm feeling anxious about raising my calories because I've not lost in over 3 weeks. Upping my carbs also seems to make me crave and feel more hungry. I've debated doing the '5-day pouch reset' but then I'd really be ignoring my NUT who seems…

Hi everybody! I'm one week post op and guess what? I can already feel my Adam's apple, cross my legs without physically lifting them with the help of my hand AND wrap my fingers on one hand around my wrist of the other. It's absolutely overwhelming and I know it's mostly Water weight but it just feels so incredible. Small Victories right? Share yours!

Just wanted to introduce myself. I am now the proud owner of a " sleeve". My surgeon Dr. Anthony Maffei did a wonderful job!! It's an exciting journey each day...and also tiring I can't wait until next week when I can have a soft Protein. It's so worth it, after only 1 week I lost 10 pounds!!!!!!! It is taking adjustment but my daughter had it when she was 28 , she's two years out amd her entire life changed around....so she is my role model:) she tells me how proud she is of me ...I have had a lot of health issues including autoimmune disease....I know that won't go away but I will have a healthier body to take anything on...this was an early birthday gift to myself…

I just got home after a 12 day road trip. This included an 8 day Florida vacation with friends and family followed directly by a 4 day California business trip. I ended up eating meals out several times a day and consumed alcohol on several occasions. This morning when weighing in, I am at exactly the same weight I was when I left. One could consider this a failure - I didn't lose an ounce in 12 days. Or, one could consider it a success - because of the limitations of the sleeve I was able to travel for 12 days and not gain anything. I'm choosing to look at it from the positive perspective. If I had not been sleeved I am certain this trip would have added 3 or 4 …

Hello all, I'm new here. I started my journey in January and just finished my second appointment of 6 a few days ago. This process is going so slow for me and I feel so anxious knowing that I could be doing all this waiting and get denied. All this waiting is giving me time to conjure up all the ways I can be denied. At the surgeons office my bmi was like 41, I have no comorbities. I also have very slight hypothyroidism and I worry I may be denied because of it because I have to do a tsh test. I am on medication for it so it should be good. Just need some buddies in the same position as me . Or people who've been through it. Btw I'm trying to get the sleeve done.

I have always been a big girl. I have tried every diet known to man! The past year I have done my very best working out and watching what I have been eating and have lost 50 lbs. My doctor recently referred me to a weight loss surgeon, so I could lose more and have more energy and not feel like a am starving all the time. Another reason this surgery is a good idea is so I can remain healthy before any problems that can happen when people are overweight develop. I am so excited about this journey I am about to start. I know this is the change and jump start I need to finally have the life I want to have and deserve to have. If you donate, not only will I forever be gra…

Got my band 2-2014. April 2015, saw my surgeon after alot of reflux, vomiting. He did an upper an upper GI and just said, it needed to be loosened and that was just as tight as I could tolerate. After 10 months of being hungry, gaining weight, reflux. I decided to go back and see the nurse practitioner. She did an upper GI. the next day. Saw her right after. She said it had to come out. My stomach and esphogas was "still" distended. So I spent 10 months like that. Not sure if this is permanent damage. I go tomorrow to start my 3 month diet trial which I think is ridiculous, but I have to do in order to have conversion to a sleeve. So frustrating! ! Sent from my SM-N9…

well next week I will be in my 3rd month of my 6 month supervised diet. (required by my insurance ) last week I went to a lung doctor and went for a sleep study . because my insurance would not pay for me to have a in lab study I had to do a at home study . the home study did not gather enough information so I go next week to talk to the doctor to see if we can get my insurance to pay for a in lab study . I got good news from the lung doctor he said my lungs are healthy and look and sound great . so he cleared me for surgery and sent the clearance letter to my surgeon. YAY! he told me that the only thing that concerns him is that I have a genetic blood clotting disorder …

The folks at Norwood Hospital in Mass were amazing they helped make the post op recovery as manageable possible.. Like everyone else I'm in the ole liquid diet but with one difference i'm allowed Blenderized Soups and not just Clear liquids, yogurt, Jello etc... today was tough really had craving for solid foods but the wife quickly put a stop to that. This is the first time I've visited this forum. I was looking for a place to share my story with other RNY patients, and here is where I landed. So, first off, the basics. I had bypass surgery 6 years ago at the U of W Hospital. The surgery was straight forward and I suffered no complications. My pre surgery weight was 355. During the first year post op I shrank to 217 (which contrary to all obesity tables was thin for my build). I was 60 at the time of the surgery. During the first year, I ate whatever I could tolerate, and drank no alcohol at all. I was pretty gruntled over the results. I tossed by CPAP, as the decrease in fat around my neck cured me of the obs…

My parents were so against my surgery due to worries of what could happen to me during surgery. I understand where they were coming from and NOW they are my biggest cheerleaders! Today they gave me a Alex and Ani bracelet that says "HERO" with a beautiful card with so many amazing things they said. Knowing they are proud means the world to me. Being able to call them and tell them my milestones is a blessing. I am proud of myself. My husband and sons are cheerleaders as well but these two people who gave me life and are able to watch me change my life in a positive way while being do encouraging just brings me to tears.

I was seeing my pcp for two years now and ever since I started my journey I can't see my pcp because now all of a sudden she doesn't take my insurance so I see someone else who is robotic, rude, and doubts my success which has me wanting to give up but I know I really need this surgery. Has anyone ever had to switch PCP during the monthly 6 month supervised diet phase before surgery?! Is that even allowed? I don't know how that works. Even if I wasn't having surgery I would still switch pcps.

Hi all, I had my sleeve with hernia repair on the 9th and I must say it has been an interesting ride. I was in the hospital for about 8 hours and then I was released to go home. The first day all I did was sleep and walk, trying to release the gas that was stuck in my stomach and back. It helped but didn't remove it all. Thank God for the IV fluids because they helped keep me hydrated since I couldn't seem to get anything down without discomfort. The 2nd day I was feeling a little better but the gas was still a beast. I got in some fluids but less than I had hoped for. Today is much better, I was partially able to sleep on my side last night, which allowed for a few…

I am getting my sleeve on February 22nd. I'm terrified to leave my 2 year old for 2 days. I'm afraid if all the extra skin I will have. But most of all I am scared that somehow I will fail. That somehow I won't lose enough weight to make any difference in my quality of life. I guess I am just so used to being this way and so used to diets eventually failing that even with this surgery I feel like I will still be fat. I want to ride a bike with my son. I want to hike and ride roller coasters with my husband. I want to walk and not be out of breath. I haven't seen many stories of people failing. But I need some reassurance. Can I have some people give me their success stori…

I am almost 7 months out from surgery and down around 110 lbs. I am still considered "overweight" as far as the bmi scale is concerned (26). I currently weigh 165 and I'm 5'7". Dr suggested I shoot for a goal weight of 155. I had originally hoped to get to 145, even 125....cause what the hell, right?!! Lol. Currently I am a solid medium as far as clothing goes, and around a size 8. Husband has been super supportive thus far, but is now asking me if I should be eating more carbs and stuff as he is concerned I will keep getting thinner. I really would like to lose 15-20 more pounds but the husband just seems so concerned. How do I get to a happy medium, where I f…

Hey all, I'm Alison from Connecticut. I will be 35 next week. I have three children. I am 5'8" and weigh 262. My highest weight is 271 in March of 2014. I have always been a bigger girl but I would say I became morbidly obese at 17. Before then I got the fat jokes still but that was children stuff. As an adult I would have looked pretty damn good to be 5'8" 200 lbs. I was 218 when I went to my very first prenatal appt in 2000. After my 2nd child in 2004 I went on a diet. I was weighing around 265 and wearing a size 22. I did Atkins for 3 months and lost 50 lbs. It was amazing. I felt great. I kept that off for around a year and a half. I then went back up to 255. In 2006 …

I am a 27, 6 ft, 375 lb male. I've always been told I carry my weight very well and have been very active. The last few years I've noticed how much harder it is to play sports like basketball and football. I am scheduled for the sleeve in the morning and I am so nervous. (Repost from another board--I wasn't sure which was the best place to post!) Hello! I'm new to the community and wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I had my WLS consultation yesterday, and have decided to pursue the gastric sleeve.
