    I believe it is also acidic so it is hard on your new innards. As to coffee/decaf, my clinic says it is also too acidic for the first while.

    also caffeine is a diuretic and makes you pee a lot so you lose fluids faster

    It can cause ulcers on your stomach which is bad when you are getting your stomach reduced to such a small size.

    All of these previous answers are correct. There are multiple reasons it's not a good idea post-op, especially for the first 6 months. I've heard horror stories about people getting bleeding ulcers and almost dying all because they didn't want to listen to their surgeon and quit caffeine. Same with nsaids and smoking.
