I joined the losers bench on February 9th

Hi all,

I had my sleeve with hernia repair on the 9th and I must say it has been an interesting ride. I was in the hospital for about 8 hours and then I was released to go home. The first day all I did was sleep and walk, trying to release the gas that was stuck in my stomach and back. It helped but didn't remove it all. Thank God for the IV fluids because they helped keep me hydrated since I couldn't seem to get anything down without discomfort.

The 2nd day I was feeling a little better but the gas was still a beast. I got in some fluids but less than I had hoped for.

Today is much better, I was partially able to sleep on my side last night, which allowed for a few consistent hours of sleep. I'm on clear liquids and have been sipping Isopure, poweraide and ice chips. I'm about half way to my daily fluid goal, which is great. I can still feel the liquids when I swallow but I assume it's from the hernia repair. I'm not really having incision pains but that's due to my stomach still being pretty numb from the shot they gave me.

It's so funny how smells and tastebuds change after surgery. I loved my sugar free Popsicles but can't stomach them right now and the smell of food makes me want to gag, I suppose that's a good thing. My only issues today are the gas in my tummy and back, this constant belching and this migraine that I can't kick. I do have chronic migraines and hoped I wouldn't have one since I can't take anything. So far I have no regrets just ready to feel 100% like myself again.

Jamie I have not tried any others but my spouse found cream of chicken, which I'm going to try for dinner. I will look up your other suggestions because I have struggled with the cream soups. It's funny how plans are different tomato soup is actually listed as an option for me - I wonder if it's due to me eating creamy tomato that I haven't experienced any issues with acidity.

I actually start purée on Tuesday and will try tuna and the ricotta bake if you have any suggestions, they will be greatly appreciated [emoji16]

Make sure you really drown the tuna in mayo. My first time eating tuna was my first time really struggling with not being able to drink and eat at the same time. It was so dry!

I just frozen lot of tuna in Mayo with unjury plain mix to add Protein. Sergury Monday..

I definitely will, thanks for the tip - one great thing for me is that I have never been a drinker when I eat, so hopefully I won't have a hard time with the time between eating and drinking [emoji120]

I didn't have to do water only the day before, I just couldn't eat past midnight. Just to be safe I ate my 4 oz meat and cup of veggies for lunch and did a shake for dinner and refused to put anything in my mouth past 8. It's almost over and will be so worth it

Being hungry only gets easier from here because you initially will have no appetite and when it returns your tummy only will take so much yayyyyy for tomorrow

Update - down 38 pounds total, 19 since surgery. I started the week off, switching to puréed and although I food prepped and thought I was ready, my tummy said no. Tuna and received beans were a definite no and everything else other than yogurt has given me extreme acid reflux. Called the doctors office and was told again that I should not be experiencing this since I had a hernia repair but I digress. They put me on nexium twice a day, which has apparently not kicked in yet and I ended up choking up foam yesterday at work, which I read is gerd. I'm so annoyed with not being able to eat but have switched back to protein shakes since they go down well sigh. Clothes are fitting better and my scars are trying to finally rid themselves of some of this surgical glue.

I have found that I am a daily weigh person but haven't decided if it's best or if I should switch to weekly. I seem to average about a pound a day but as many others, I am impatient[emoji16] I know I didn't gain the weight over night but I sure do want it to come off over night heheheheheh

I really can't wait until I am 100% as I am so ready for some extreme working out [emoji123]???? whelp that's all for now

Tracey - how was surgery? I pray all is well and you are walking and sipping away [emoji16]

I'm walking and siping and I'm tired where u. Tummy upset. I hate this felling.

It will get better...I was tired for the first few days, are you taking b12 yet? Your tummy may not like everything so if something makes you feel funky try something else. My surgeon said focus on fluid initially because we don't want to get dehydrated, the protein intake will increase with time. Also don't push yourself, if you feel full or uncomfortable, stop

Sending hugs and healing your way [emoji51]

I joined the losers side on 2/16 and had my first post appt today and it was exactly two weeks since last weigh in and I'm down 29 lbs. I'm very excited.
