Had my surgery on 24th of March. Has been very challenging, mentally and physically draining! However I notice that each day it gets better. Any pointers? I'm keeping track of my Fluid intake, taking my Vitamins, using breathing thingy (forgot the name) LOL. Pre-op weight (prior to 2 week liquid diet): 298.6 Pre-op (right before surgery): 287.3 Goal Weight: 188.6

12/2014 I woke up 40 yrs old; I was sick and sad. I needed to see a doctor for blood pressure refills and pulled up a map and located the closest doctor to my house. I wasn't looking to make any changes; but the doctor was so nice and non-judgemental; I felt obligated to lose weight, after all I was 402lbs. I started with high protein; low carbs and 1/2 phentermine. In one year I was down 99lbs and qualified for the RNY procedure. I am 3 months post op and down a total of 135lbs. I workout four times a week; sticking with rowing and cycling. I am 126lbs from goal weight and I have come so far. I am loving life and have zero regrets. Long way to go yet and I've come so …

I am on my 45gm carb restriction waiting for a surgery date for April. Today I woke up feeling very down. I feel like I am in a prison (obesity) and on work program to get released early (the Sleeves program). I work so hard and then I still am in this PRISON. This work release has no ending. I can Not see the light at the end of the tunnel. Is the prison warden just screwing with me. Is it just easier to give up and eat the French fries, cheese cake, the fettuccine Alfredo. My 5y daughter told me I am fat and that I have a fat belly. My husband told her to not say that and she said "well daddy she is fat" I went to my mom and dad (which are divorced and don'…

I had my RNY on 2/17 and have had severe pain around my incision sites. Particularly the open wound from where my drain was. I'm really trying not to be a downer about this, but it's really difficult when my husband who had GS on the same day is doing so much better. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm also having a horrible time getting the protein shakes down. I can do water and broth no problem but the shakes seem to sit in my throat. I know that I need to take things slowly and body is having a massive adjustment, but it's really hard not to compare myself to my husband or what others are doing who had their surgery around the same time.

Well surgery is in the morning at 11:30 am- 3/23. I have spent the last two days inundated with last minute things- my daughter leaving for France on Friday, one of my sons had to get scheduled for wisdom teeth extraction next week. Monday I woke up shaky and crying- like when hormones overtake you when you're pregnant- no rhyme or reason you just start bawling. Lasted for a few hours and then I calmed down. Tuesday I saw my surgeon for my "day before" appointment. Begged him to let me have a turkey sandwich ( I was kidding!) and he said no way! I told him he was a bully and we laughed so it helped relieve some tension. Meanwhile it is 2:14 am and I can't sleep a wink. …

I interviewed Jonathan Blue, a bariathlete and inspiring weight loss success story. The Obesity Action Coalition defines “bariathletes” as people who have lost weight via bariatric surgery and now compete in endurance events. One-year post-bariatric surgery, Jonathan competed in endurance events such as the Disabled American Veterans 5k and Great Ohio River Swim. At the age of 30, he has reclaimed his health and his life after losing more than 200 pounds following gastric bypass surgery in November 2013. You may read Jonathan's story here: http://www.mybariatriclife.org/patient-stories-from-obesity-to-bariathlete/ Jonathan also contributes articles on BariatricPal here…

Greetings to all who read this post. I am just 4 days after surgery and I am home after a 3 day Stay. I had to stay 2 extra days due to my heart rate being elevated. I believe it was partially due to the fact that I came in with severe back pain. I'm noticing that with each day, I feel a little better. I'm taking it really slow. I have 2 weeks off work which is beneficial to a good recovery. I am experiencing a lot of soreness in my 5 incision areas. They are not gross or ugly so I'm sure they'll heal nicely. Sometimes I hear voices in my head saying how stupid I was to permanently shrink the size of my stomach. I know it's just Satan trying to discourage me. I believe th…

I have been struggling with my weight since I gave birth to my first kid. I will never forget; I was 185 lbs when I left the hospital (19 yrs. old) and it’s been a roller coaster since. When I left the hospital they put me on the Depo Provera birth control shot and I blew up. I figured that was the best option since taking my BC pills daily was a concern. I was too busy enjoying life lol. My weight at that time increased to 260 so I went on a serious diet and was able to lose 48 lbs. I went down to 212 lbs. and that was my lowest weight in my adult years. My weight gradually increased again but I never went over 260 lbs. I was always lucky enough to maintain that …

Hi guys & gals, My name is Bonnie, I am 26 years old and 380lbs at the moment. Skip the next paragraph if you don't care about my whiney health history. Health history: I actually only have sleep apnea as a co-morbidity. Decent bp, pulse, blood sugar. My choice for bariatric surgery also has nothing to do with self image as I have been for years an extraordinarily confident woman. Unfortunately for me (& my family who rely son my care taking) I have been dealing with unexplained neuropathy in my limbs and extremely debilitating back pain for about two years. I now walk like my 94 year old nana lol. Doctors take one look at my large body and immediately dis…

Things I've noticed 4 weeks after surgery: 1. As my body shrinks, I kinda have a butt now. 2. I'm slowly able to put clothes which are too big in a bag to donate. 3. I make time to get 10,000 steps per day. 4. Finally considering a personal trainer. 5. I sleep better than before. 6. My shoes fit better than before. 7. My face is slimmer. 8. I smile a lot more. 9. I am more conscious about how I look when I leave the house. 10. I have no regrets about the sleeve. Best medical decision I have ever elected to do in my life!!

Thought I would tell my story of how I got to where I am today! At age 20, my body went into Menopause. I was told I couldnt have children and that with going into menopause many more health problems were going to appear. I had sleep apnea, I got winded just going from the car to my house. Every morning when I woke up I felt like I was 90 years old. Everything hurt or cracked even. I was always tired, my depression was very severe, on all kinds of medicine. Being so outta shape I missed out on a lot growing up, I had very little to no self esteem or confidence. I had tried every diet plan known to man, diet pills, ect. I gained weight rather than lose it. I became ve…

March 16, 2016 Hello! If you're reading this you might be considering getting your surgery in Mexico at the Mexicobariatriccenter. I am post op sleeve day 6 right now, have a fever of 102.5, and am feeling pretty crummy atm. FYI: I am a nursing student in my 4th block so I have some understanding of pharmacology and the importance of sterile/aseptic procedures. The positives: Price was about $4300 plus airfare, incidentals, tipping, etc. I estimate I spent close to $5k in all. Hotel accommodation and staff at the Hyatt Place in Tijuana was great. They will give you as much chicken or beef broth, sugar-free lime popsicles, or various flavors of sugar-free Jell…

I was sleeved on 2/8. I lost 34 pounds in the first 3 weeks, and things have been going smoothly until the last week. I am severely constipated. So much so, that I have gained back 2 pounds and I cannot even pass gas very easily. I have IBS with constipation, which I have had since before surgery. I take my prescription Linzess, a stool softener if needed, I have tried drinking smooth move tea, taken the prescription gas medicine and taken gas-x strips....all still with no relief. I am desparate, has anyone else ever had this bad a bout of constipation since surgery, and what did you do? Help! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App

Hello All, I'm new here and I think I may have posted my story on the wrong forum. I have found this site very beneficial and I wanted to give back. MY BACKGROUND: 55 and have been overweight starting in my late 20's after divorce. It was harder to get the weight off after my hysterectomy in my 40's. Best wt. loss was with WW of 45 pounds, but so discouraging when you work hard week-after-week and they'd say "Congratulations! You've lost 0.2 lbs." My BMI was 39 before approval. My highest weight was 222 lbs and my goal weight is 145 lbs. I had been thinking about the sleeve for a while, even though I saw a lot of people fail with it, but others were successful. I h…

Today I had my one month follow up, Doctor said I was right where I need to be with weight loss and recovery, they are pleased with my diet and the changes I am seeing. They did add back on my Water pill as my fingers have been puffy and my water intake is exceptional. it is interesting how each doctor has a plan that varies, but he said I was released to any activities and can take any OTC medications needed including Ibuprofen. I love the print out they give when they weigh me, it lists the calories needed to maintain your weight and it helps me to know where my calories need to be to continue to loose. Right now I am only managing about half what would be n…

I was heavy all the way through elementary and middle school my uniforms were "huskie" . My weight quickly rose through my teens, peaking at 220lbs at 5'11" I didn't have a problem doing anything really, played baseball, ran, did all that stuff. At one point, I hit 240... Then by the time I was 22 or so, I was 260... Then 280. Every diet has failed, except total extreme dieting like Atkins and extreme low calorie. Those diets are so extreme you simply can not sustain them for too long. I also went through the Phentermine fad, stacker two when it was legit, and even this other stuff called Thermobolics (we're talking 1998) I decided to look into weight loss surgery …

I am almost 3 months post op. I was feeling great until I went back to work with the cesspool of germs we define as a high performance work area. I feel like I've had a cold or cough now for several weeks. Any suggestions on how to fight this? I take biotin, vitamin d, multi vitamin, calcium citrate and B12. I am a long time lurker here, just completed my surgery on Monday with Dr Illan. I had some time to kill this morning before my flight so I started writing about my experience. I have some time to kill in the airport so I am sharing it with you. Hopefully you find this helpful. If you have questions, I will do my best to help. The arrival into San Diego was uneventful. We wanted to be early, so we arrived on Saturday for Monday surgery. Rented a car and checked into our hotel, Holiday Inn Bayside. The hotel was fine and only 5 minutes from the airport. We wanted to make a date weekend out of the experience pre surgery. I booked tickets to a comedy show the wee…

You guys, I just had a doctor's appointment, the first big post-op appointment with my GP, and it left me joyous!! In twenty five years I've never readings like this. Let me just put it this way. I came home in a cloud and threw into the garbage: Metformin, Glypizide (diabetes) Losartan, amlodipine (high blood pressure), flexerile, meloxicam (terrible back and joint pain), lipitor (high cholestrol) .... I have NONE of those things anymore. I literally let out a huge holler in the parking lot walking to my car.... Thank God and this RNY gastric Bypass surgery. Thank you for letting me share that with you all, I'm moved beyond words

Hi everyone! My name is Jamie and I am new here. I read this forum a lot prior to surgery but never registered. Thank you all for being so helpful with such a huge decision! I am 36 and married with no children. I have a high level position with a national catering company and have been event planning for over ten years. I had my surgery on May 11th. I am posting all over this board today because I really want to get involved and grow a strong community of support. I decided to start making youtube videos to document my journey. Hi folks I'm 35 days post op and around 18 lbs from my goal. I had lost around 45 lbs before surgery. Anyway, it's slowing down a lot now, lost 1.6 lbs last week, the slowest it's been. I'm eating around 850 calories a day on puree phase another three weeks. Just curious what kind of calorie intake people are doing at various stages post op, I track everything. One thing, I gotta raise up my exercise, I'm doing real ginger 30 minute walks but wanna add ab work and harder cardio. One weird observation: I get up now earlier around 530 everyday no problem and that was always a huge problem for me...that and for the first time in decades I no longer take ANY pain kille…

Its been a while since i have been here. 5 years actually. Back in 2010 I began the process of preparing to do the Gastric Sleeve. I went through all my pre-op testing. My weight was 313 and my doc wanted me to loose some weight. Well, I did. I lost enough do drop my BMI down to below 40 and thought that I could do it on my own, so i cancelled the plan. Turns out that was a bit of a mistake. Since 2010 I have put on another 40 lbs and have gotten up to as high as 356 lbs. So I began the process again. I dragged my feet a little after the first visit, but have since locked down a surgery date....May 18, 2016. Now my only concerns are post-op. I want to be sure I use …

Back on October 22, 2015 was my initial consultation and when I decided to start my journey toward weight loss surgery. A little over four months, several classes, tests, and appointments later and I'm waiting for the call from my surgeon with my surgery date and the beginning of my two week liquid diet. I'm very very excited about the life to come, but I'm also very nervous about the life changes and the unknowns that are still yet to be discovered. At this point I just hope that my surgery date isn't too far off. I know I've waited this long, and had a wonderful life ... I'm ready to begin the next chapter on a healthier path.

At my weekly weigh-in, I was officially under 200 lbs; a weight I haven't seen in more than 16 years! I want to Celebrate but can't think of anything special to do that is affordable and not food-related. Surely many of you have celebrated this milestone.... what did YOU do to mark the occasion? (PS let the record show that I'm very grateful to have this problem, lol)
