Hi everyone! A friend of mine reached out to me 2 years ago about considering wls and I thought "no way! It's too drastic" well here I am 2 years later the exact same size after trying & trying & trying. After giving it thorough consideration I'm finally going through with it and I'm so excited! If it wasn't for her bringing it up I would have never thought it was an option. I'm a 32 yo female, 5'5", 231# & 38BMI. The kicker is I've been an avid crossfitter for 4 years and coaching regularly for 3! I also aim for a Paleo lifestyle because it makes me feel amazing but I get discouraged when my weight doesn't budge. I'm sharing because like most of us the reac…

I was on vacation last week and on Friday I went to the water park and wore my swim suit and actually played and did the slides and everything and I didn't have to worry about weight limits and me getting tired walking around. My kids loved that mom and dad went with them(even though they are older) we spent the whole day there and I was not always trying to cover up or hid in the water. I actually felt comfortable in my swim suit and my own skin for once[emoji6]

So I'm not so great about sharing my journey or talking about myself. I am always the advice giver, caretaker, and listener... so you'll have to bare with me through out my long winded discussion of my massive lifestyle changes. I've yo-yo'ed with weight since I was about 18. Between stress, depression, anxiety, and life... I managed to pack on 330 pounds at my heaviest (as seen in my largest photo!). In 2012 I was diagnosed with Pseudotumor cerebri (Intercranial hypertenstion) which also caused Papilledema. What is Pesudotumor cerebri and papilledema, you ask? (Well, I'm gonna tell you even if you don't want to know.. mwahaha!) Pseudotumor cerebri is a condition…

I am 5 days post-op gastric sleeve. I have such mixed feelings. I have been overweight for the past 15 years. I have been suffering from depression for the past 25 yrs. I am on meds but seem to depend on sweets to raise my spirits. Of course the sugar rush goes so I eat more... I was put on zyprexa and ALL of my levels were elevated. I became diabetic, hypertensive and gained 30 lbs. I came off the zyprexa but had to stay on meds for cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, and depression. I did lose the 30lbs. I have a niece that I love dearly. She means the world to me and what kind of example am I setting? I'm successful in my career but I'm 46 and weigh 221. Im alwa…

I have struggled with acid reflux and IBS for the last thirty some years or more in fact I cannot remember the last time my stomach felt so relaxed. No bloating. No pain. No hunger. And it's Thursday , had mini bypass surgery on Monday here in Tijuana . Some huge differences here in the hospital care. When you ring for a nurse they actually show up. My room was cleaned twice a day. Michael stayed with me in the room. Medications came on the dot. IV changed as soon as it beeped! Doctors are so kind and amazing. It's wonderful here and the men and women here are so gracious. Mexican health care is great with Bariatric Pal. The service was great, the hospital clinic clean. I…

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for quite some time and am now finally brave enough to post. Here's the basics. I'm 41, 5'7", and 236. I am under the BMW by a hair, but have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and am insulin resistant. Losing weight is a battle and I seem to regain more than I lose. I've struggled with my weight for most of my adult life thanks to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). WLS was suggested to me at a very vulnerable time after a hysterectomy repair and presented to me as an alternative to checking my thyroid or hormones. It took me several years to even consider it as an option. I've developed many other problems with …

Hi Everyone, I had my gastric bypass surgery in December 2014. My surgeon was Dr. Jason Suits in Longview, Texas, and he is amazing! I've been overweight for over 20 years. I am 5'8" and at my highest weight of 294, I was done. I was tired, sick, and had been on blood pressure medication since I was 25. I was pre-diabetic, had borderline high cholesterol, and the beginnings on heart disease. I was on the fast track to an early death. My surgery went smoothly, and I was in the hospital for 3 days until I could drink enough Protein shake to make everyone happy. I experienced very little discomfort, and asked for only Tylenol and Ibuprofin while still in the hospital. Aft…

Breakfast suggest Special K with milk but I got to let them soak till their mushy.. I don't care as long as it's not in the form of Jello or broth :-) I get also Protein, cream soup and yogurt . I'm looking at the menu like I'm looking a the menu of a fancy restaurant. Tomorrow cannot get here early enough. :-) Today is Canada day so everywhere around me there's barbecue smell (burgers, chicken) this has been the hardest day so far. Also first post op activity which was strawberry picking. which sucks now that I found out I can't even have them in purée cause of the seeds :-( . but Lost 6.5 pounds since surgery Monday (june 27)

Today was my first puréed food. I chose a poached egg in part because I love them and also because it's a super soft food to begin with. First spoonful was good. The second, a little rough. Well guys, I am almost two months post op (July 9th). I truly believe surgery was a saving grace for me. Before surgery I was 20 years old and 16 pounds shy of 300 pounds. I wasn't happy, I wasn't living life, and I certainly was not going to live a full life at the rate I was going. I started dieting February 6th & by my surgery date of May 9th I was 236 pounds! I had lost 48 pounds all by myself in 3 months. Never had I been successful before in losing. Surgery went incredible & I feel even better. I was stalled for about 3 weeks after surgery and then the weight started coming off. As of yesterday I am officially 205 pounds! A whopping 31 lost since surgery &am…

Hi everyone new here, just wanted to share my story hoping it will help someone in the future. And at the same time share your experience please. I was sleeved 12/22/15 with no complications week 3-5 post op I noticed how I was extremely nauseous and really didn't want to eat nor hardly drink. I was told it was normal so I figured it would pass..then week 5...got off of work on a Wednesday evening..and had this extreme feeling of cold and shaking to where I could hardly drive..I went home covered myself with 4 blankets and still couldn't warm up. I then had my husband call the surgeon and I then began to puke. My husband was told to rush me in..so we drove an hour to the …

Background time... I've been going through the preop process with my hospital and insurance since February, doing everything required as quickly as possible and going to lots of appointments. I finally got everything done after multiple hiccups and checked my insurance website -- the authorization has been approved! I called the surgeon's office but they hadn't received notice of that yet, so I'm jumping the gun. They should be calling me between Friday and Tuesday with my date. It's getting real.

It's been 2 weeks, and I finally have my energy levels back. I had my first full day back and work with problems. I pack my lunch box in the morning before work, that way I have supplies all day at work. And don't eat or drink the wrong thing. Thank you, to everybody for all the great comments and advice. Things did get better for me.. 2 weeks today and I'm way better than the first week. I'm very strict on my eating and I don't over eat or eat what I shouldn't. Can't wait for the weight to start melting off... ????☀️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I decided to have surgery to help me with my weight loss. I went to my first appointment on June 18,2015 and attended my first nutritional class that same day. I weighed in at 464 lbs. I could not believe I weighed that much. I began to exercise and eat healthier. I had to do 12 months of nutritional classes for my insurance. My doctor required a 2 week liquid diet pre op. I had my sleeve on 6/14/16. The day of surgery I weighed in at 371 lbs. That is 93lbs. I lost on my own. The day I was released from the hospital I weighed 379 from all the fluids they were pumping in me. Today makes 2 week post op and I weighed in at 345 lbs. I cannot believe I am down 119 …

Was called today by the Kaiser coordinator, and the required six months of classes starts on July 6 (in one week). It feels surreal. Looking forward to connecting with the other 21 classmates over the next 24 weeks. Really thankful that Kaiser puts us through this program down here. Am looking forward to the six months of behavioral and lifestyle training pre-surgery so that I go into this as educated and prepared as possible. Onward. So I am only just under 5 weeks post op and I am loving life. This is easily the best decision I have ever made. I have lost 45 pounds since my surgery on May 23 and lost around 95 overall. I was just offered an amazing job that I truly believe I never would of gotten if not for the surgery. For any people who are skeptical about getting the surgery just know that I sure was and I am so damn glad that I decided to get it. Hi Friends, I am a teacher for children with severe autism and cognitive deficits. I love it, but chronic pain has really weighed on me. I work with 3-4 year olds and some days are so physical and it can be like herding kittens. I am 3 1/2 weeks post op band to sleeve revision. This is not my first rodeo!! I feel amazing. Down 24 lbs. and ready to take on the world. My clothes feel great and just back to feeling healthier. So, it's time for my 3 month transformation. Today I got rid of the gray. Cut some new bangs. Getting some highlights in a few weeks. I love the difference in my feeling of satisfaction after I eat a small amount of food. I am on mus…

I had lap band surgery in October of 2012. From the beginning, it was nothing but trouble. I followed my instructions to the letter, so this was a band failure. Not a surgeon failure, not my failure. In almost a year and a half, I never hit the sweet spot. The band was either too loose, or too tight. I threw up every time I ate. I could not eat the things I was supposed to eat. No meat, no eggs, no vegetables, no fruit. Basically if it wasn't in liquid form, it came back up. Having food get stuck is unpleasant. Productive burps are unpleasant. No matter how well I chewed, everything got stuck. It got to the point where I was eating all the stuff I wasn't supposed to…

The beginning. I asked my PCP about Bariatric surgery about six months ago . Since then been researching and reading. I finally called the Group Health Washington Bariatric center. The nurse was nice but told me it would be two years minimum and that I probably wouldn't qualify . My basic plan doesn't cover it anyway. I'm 57, weigh 250 pounds, 5' 9". I've been up and down with weight my whole life. Done Medifast twice, weight watchers three times, nutrisystem and HMR. All worked until I reached goal and then stopped and went back to my previous ways. Then boom fat again. Been this way forever. I need a drastic change. I'm ready. It's been one month today... And what a ride it's been! I feel pretty good. No pain, and I can eat most of the foods I'm allowed without discomfort (except ground beef makes my pouch sad) I was cleared for all foods this week My surgeon prescribed a diuretic. She said I was extremely bloated. Since being on them, I've lost the 6 pounds I put on during my stall. But hopefully I won't gain it all back once I stop :/ My stall lasted 3 weeks... And it could still be going, but the Water pill is making the scale move, so only time will tell. I was previously eating 600-700 calories a day, but my surgeon said that was way too low and told to eat 800-1000 calories. That's …

I have been waiting and agonizing over the question of which procedure to go with...gastric sleeve or RNY. I was mentally ready for VSG and have done nutrition counseling, psych evaluation and teaching courses in surgeon's office. Lab work all done and everything looks great except TSH. My synthroid needs adjusted then labs rechecked before I can proceed. 4 week delay then submit to bc/bs. My surgeon is suggesting I consider RNY because it is the surest way to meet my goal of 135#. I have about 70# to lose. BMI 35.4 with 2 Co morbidities: sleep apnea and hypertension. I am very active with crossfit and spin classes and the occasional 5k run. 61 years old. Just seems to b…

First off, I am considered a 'low BMI' patient and recall asking my doc over a decade ago about GB with insurance paying for it. She laughed and told me I'd qualify if I gained 40 pounds, kept it on for 2+ years while trying to lose weight, and developed co-morbidities. I was fairly trim until my 30s but have 2 problems contributing to consistent weight gain. First, I have really big boobs, and if that sounds silly try exercising with them. Second, I can eat the same amount as everyone around me but I gain weight while they lose or stay the same. I had anecdotally seen this for years when I discovered 'myfitnesspal' about 6 years ago and began tracking. I discovered…

I'm new here! I have been considering vsg for about a year now. My husband is active duty military, so I'll be going through the local MTF. I'm a full time student, so I'm hoping to have the surgery in August, so I'm fully adjusted when I go back for my senior year. Good morning all you beautiful sleevers, Today is finally the day I have my surgery. It goes without saying that I am both nervous and excited at the same time!!! This is the day that will change my life forever. I am blessed that I have been given this opportunity and have a wonderful family support system. I wish everyone who is either considering or has done the surgery the very best!! My surgery is scheduled to take place at 7:30 this morning, although we have to be at the hospital at 5:30. (So I have roughly 2 hours to fiddle my thumbs and psych myself out prior to surgery, lol). I hope to be able to keep everyone posted as this begins my journey to a healthier ne…
