Here's the stats: Weight at the info presentation, 223 lbs. Now? I think less, but I don't know. I don't own a scale. Testing is 9/6, surgery is 9/20. This will be my 7th major surgery in my life, so I'm a pro. Not too worried at all. Overall, I'm pretty healthy. The doctor can't find anything wrong with me. No diabetes, no high blood pressure, no sleep apnea, not even high cholesterol. I DO have a bad back though and losing weight will help with pain (car accident -I flew out back window when it flipped end over end). I'm approved through BCBSIL. All will be covered, as I have met my deductible already this year. I had a lumpectomy in Jan. and surgery on my se…

I have been lurking for several weeks and this morning sitting here feeling bad after another bad night with a migraine. I was sitting here reading everyone's comments and thought how much this forum has helped me so I think I should write too...maybe it well help someone...maybe it will help me. I had my initial consult on the 21st. I am like so many others, I've been up and down all my life. Tried every diet, exercise, how to book that came along. Some worked for a time but eventually the weight piled back on and each pound brought a friend. The decision to get sleeved was pretty much a no brainer. I have had every emotion you can have, excited, worried, scared, eager…

Hi .. Just stumbled on this app and it's exactly what I need. I am having my surgery this Friday 29 July and only my close family know. I chose not to tell anyone as I don't need extra pressure from people. I want it done my way in my time. That's why reading all your posts makes me feel comfortable and secure. I am nervous but very excited. Seeing before and after photos inspires me. I don't want to be the fat cousin or friend anymore. I've been that all my life. This is it... I had surgery on April 27th of 2015. I reached the top end of my goal weight in January of this year. I am now 21 pounds below that. I've been eating about 900 to 1300 calories a day since January. My surgeon says I should never take in fewer than 800 calories and up to 1600 calories on heavy work out days. I haven't seen my NUT in a long time because everything has been going well. (I know, poor excuse). Just curious, what is typical for people that have reached goal weight? Some days I have trouble getting in 1000 calories and other days I could eat more. Just want some info. I do have an appointment with my NUT regarding nutrition for race/training days. I…

I finally received a date for my Pre-op Upper GI Series and EKG (done at same time) - then I can have my blood work and get my pre-op surgeon appt! My Program is great but apparently I am the first person to be ready for pre-op testing at their new location/center and there were some glitches in the ordering process. Hopefully all goes well and I can get surgery in September!

I thought I'd just put my story out there so far. So many times we read about the the surgeries that have complications..... which scared me so bad. I thought I'd give a happy outcome! I started my process in November by going to the group meeting then meeting with my surgeon. I had to go through the 6 months of doctor visits and of course all the health screening tests. I was approved by my insurance company Anthem BCBC in less than a week. Finally I was given my surgery date, 6 weeks out. I felt like that was forever far away.. but time went fast! I was put on two week liquid diet. The first few days were a test for me for sure, but I stuck with it because I knew if I…

So basically people have been asking me if I really had the surgery cause nothing shows yet. Did a comparison picture collage and all have chose the day of the surgery picture as being the one where I look "thinner" . Guess the buyer's remorse phase is kicking in now. and I only lost 18 pounds since surgery on the 27th of June. kind of bumbed about that too.

I have been saying all the info is correct for the last 25 years and not been updating my weight. This time when I go to renew it, which a police office recently told me to do as my picture looks nothing like me after losing 103 pounds, I will not have to lie and I can actually change it to a smaller number!!! So I just got home from the hospital. My surgery was yesterday and I felt totally fine in the hospital - barely any pain on my incision (I had a single incision through my belly button) or gas pain. I've now been home for two hours and my pain is almost unbearable. I have a constant feeling that I need to throw up, my belly button is brutally painful, and my body is so swollen I feel like a balloon. I know I need to walk and sip Water, but walking is almost impossible right now, even though I took my pain medication. Did this happen to anyone else? Does anyone have any tips for me? My name is christi I'm a married mom of 3 teenage kids and I run multiple business. I've lost and gained weight most of my life and after my mom and younger sister got weight loss surgery, I decided it was my last option. I did the sleeve on April 9,2015 and have lost 133 pounds. Going from a size 24 to a size 12. It feels very surreal. Walking into a store and being able to buy clothes that were never an option for me before. No more worries about overflow No my airline seat or needing an seat belt extender. Finally the rest of the world sees me as I have always seen myself and that is the most amazing part! I am so glad I did it! It was hard and I had to jump through …

Hi everyone! I was sleeved 7/18/16, so I'm just over a week post-op. My surgeon has us go right into puréed foods, but I honestly cannot eat. The only thing my stomach will allow me is Water, which I drink plenty of. Protein shakes, yogurt, etc. I can only have maybe 1 oz of. I am worried this will effect my health. I am going to my doctor tomorrow so of course I will ask him about this too, but I figured I would see if anyone else has had this issue. I had my surgery in January at age 47. I had a staph infection and surgery for that 2 weeks post op, and then 1 month after that had a surgery for twisted bowel. I'm 4 months out, down 56 lbs and ALL of my health issues have resolved. It's so worth it, but I've only felt that for the last month. I was so sick and in pain, and have had such new dietary issues that I wanted to die. If I'd had the energy I wouldn't be here. Now that I've accepted that I can only eat Vegan, the pain from eating is basically gone; which means I'm finally enjoying my husband hugging me and calling me "skinny"! Well this time last week I was heading to the ward from recovery, my plumbing all re-routed. Am I happy it was done ... yes I am starting to be ... but for most of the last week I totally regretted the decision. After constantly vomiting for 3 days solid ... until my doc put me on an extreme nausea protocol they usually reserve for cancer patients. Finally I got some relief, not fully clear but at least not vomiting actively 24/7. There were moments when I regretted the choice. There were moments when I wondered if I would ever be able to eat of drink again. There were moments I just gave in and cried, slept, sulked or watched tv. I woke with a large bore naso gastric…

Hello. This is my first post on here. I was sleeved on June 16, 2016. My starting weight was 340lbs and I am now 298lbs. I am 5 weeks out, and I've been feeling absolutely miserable. I've been nauseous and the sight of certain foods or even thinking about food makes me feel miserable. I feel like I am losing too slow, or like I'm doing everything wrong. I've been sleeping terribly and I've had a headache for 3 days. I'm absolutely exhausted and have no motivation to work out. I'm having a really tough time coping with my emotions. I was very much an emotional eater and now that my stomach is gone I don't have anything healthy to cope with. It's been really miserable for…

I don't know if I truly qualify as a newbie. I had the gastric sleeve surgery last week, so I am post op. I didn't realize I could probably get support from a group online. A friend (former student) recommend this site so I'm jumping right in since it was never too late. Let me give you my history. I am a short (5'3") male senior citizen. I have yoyo'd in weight problems all my adult life from an unhealthy 110 pounds in my 20s to my recent 241 pounds last summer. Partially because I am not prone to exercise and also because I had major spinal surgery several years ago, my weight ballooned in the past decade. I developed a laundry list of problems including diabet…

I have read this on here over and over and thought I was prepared for it. I told myself this was gonna happen. I prepared for the post op, the pain, the gas, the depression, the lack of food, the discomfort... Not ONCE in the last 10 days have I regretted having this surgery. This is a pretty hard thing that we have all gone through and I keep telling myself it will be all worth it in the end. I also thought I had prepared me for the "no weight loss/gain". I'm on phase 2: full liquids, and pretty much since I started this phase I have not lost any weight. In fact, this morning I gained .8lbs. I read and read and read again that this was gonna happen! But I guess nothing p…

Hello all☺, my name is Jennifer. I just had my gastric bypass surgery on July 14th 2016. My starting weight before my pre-op diet is 296 pounds. My ending weight after pre op diet was 277 pounds. Therefore I lost about 19 pounds and 2 ounces before surgery. Surgery wasn't as horrible as I expected. It was and is still very painful being that I'm not one that can deal with a lot of pain. But I had some really good people on my side which made this process easier. My doctor was very happy that everything went well. Mainly because I followed the instructions of the diet (to the exact instructions) I also did the clear liquid diet all day the day before my surgery. The day o…

Hi, am new to this site. I am scheduled for Gastric bypass surgery July 25 at TWH in Toronto. I am excited about my surgery but also apprehensive about the unknown and so have found this site very helpful. I have been on Optifast for 14 days, 7 more to go. I am a little disappointed that I am Only 30lbs down after 2weeks of no food. I have stuck only to optifast shakes & sugar free Jello. Is this comparable to others? I feel very light headed and feel unable to go out to do too much because I need to be close to the washroom! Would appreciate any helpful tips or advice. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

So my name is george. I am 33 and i had my sleeve done a week ago on july 12. I have had a lot of regrets even though i know the future of my life will be better. I stayed in the hospital for 2 nights and the nurses were awesome as well as the drs. While there i had a problem with peeing so they had to do a straight catheter in the middle of the night(damn did that hurt. Never again)! then the next day i was able to pee but i could not pass gas. But i was full of it, which caused a lot of problems. After a lot of walking and some mirolax we got that taken care of. I came home on thursday in quite a bit of pain. i had no problems drinking Water, getting all the fluids i…
