    Started by Guest,

Well, this whole thing has just gotten a lot more "real" for me. So I guess I'll start the "my story" part. I've been overweight my whole life. First diet as a pre-teen. Lots of family of origin stuff. Likely a similar story to a vast majority of the people here. I did pretty OK as an active "fluffy" woman for many years - did belly dance, went skiing, took Krav Maga... as someone else said here, I was healthy and doing well, until I wasn't. A knee injury ended up with a knee reconstruction and 18 months of rehab, then I decided to change careers (IT to nursing) and my weight started climbing through nursing school and my health started crumbling. First I was…

  2. Hi. I've been lurking for months, but this is my first post. I've come to an abrupt end of my pre-surgical rigamarole, and am just waiting for the bariatric clinic to call me in order to schedule an appointment with my surgeon for the final consultation before scheduling surgery - I wasn't expecting it to be so soon, as I only started the process on April 11th. My insurance - Excellus BCBS - requires a 6 month stretch of supervised weight loss only if they don't feel that your previous attempts at weight loss were serious enough. I guess 25+ years of constant struggle was adequate, because after my 2nd nutritionist follow-up (a group seminar and 2 follow-ups scheduled a…

So I went to the informative session yesterday and it was great. They didn't tell me anything I didn't already know but now I'm just one step closer to getting the surgery. They will be making an appointment for the dietician for me soon. I'm faxing in my paper so that I can get an appointment with the physiatrist and either today or tomorrow I will be making an appointment with my doctor. Now it says she may put me on a 6 month weight loss program because my insurance requires it to make sure I can lose weight so they know I'll be okay and able to do it after surgery or I might have to just take 6 months of nutritional classes which would still be okay. I'm estimating ar…

I'm going to the mandatory informational session this Wednesday. I'll be filling out a form to see if I qualify but a surgeon already confirmed that I do. My insurance is saying that I still have to attend which I don't mind. I'll be updating through my 6 month pre op requirements, surgery day and hospital stays and post op. I will be documenting my process through the whole thing. Including my mood and how I'm doing with the diets, gym workouts, healthy foods that work for me, weight loss pictures and updates monthly after the surgery. Hope you guys follow me through this life changing journey and I will follow you guys too, for support. x Sent from my iPhone using th…

  5. food addition, you are obese, or have other food related issues does not mean you were abused. This is my story, and, unfortunately it is many other people's story. I was a healthy kid growing up. In fact, my childhood nickname was Twiggy because I was so lean. I was raised in a middle class home with three sisters, and we were healthy and active. But, when I turned 15 years old I was brutally raped, had my genitals burned by the tip of a knife, and had my life threatened by a friend of a friend. In the year after that happened I became anorexic (undiagnosed but well under 100lbs. at 5'8"). I would eat an apple and a soft pretzel a day many days. I was unhealthy, and I …

I have completed everything necessary over the last 6 months to prepare for my surgery. I had seen my psychiatrist and she suggested that I see a specialist to deal with emotional eating. I looked into it and with my financial strapping I could not afford even just the $200 evaluation. So my surgeon had me see the psychologist within their practice. He said that my wait fluctuated throughout the 6 months (which at the time my nutritionist had sad was understandable and I was still doing a great job). My surgery date was due last week of July/first week of August, but the psychiatrist said I need to see him again in 2 months (October 26) and I need to lose at least 10-20 p…

Hey guys I'm Erica and I'm currently 5 months out. I had the RnY surgery. Did anyone else feel like their stomach was too heavy while they were laying down? When I go to sleep my stomach feels hard and when I roll on my side it feels like it's stretching. Idk if it's because of the weight loss (day of surgery was 324. Now I'm 211) but it's starting to worry me, should o be worried? Also my stomach feels like it's numb all the time I touch it and it's like I can feel it with my fingers and I know I'm touching it, but my stomach doesn't feel it.. Is that normal? Since signing on for BP, I've occasionally mentioned in various places having strayed and wanting to get serious again. Finally, Step #1 for the second time.. Band surgery was October, 2009. My highest weight was 311. From about three weeks before surgery until mid-February, 2011, I lost 115 pounds. At 197, my goal of 145-150 was in sight. "Something," an event with emotional fallout, happened and that February, I stopped losing and soon began to gain. I went as high as 268 and mostly have hovered at 265-270. Twice in between I buckled down, lost about 25, only to regain them. All along I've wanted to get back to business. Just in the last couple of weeks, the…

So my surgery date is 7/25/16. I went to my pre op on 7/12/16. I was mentally and financially prepared to start my liquid diet on 7/18/16. While at the appointment I was told that I should have started on 7/11/16 but no one informed me. I tried and was quite successful on Wednesday and Thursday but I didn't do so well Friday, Saturday and today. For some reason everything is tasting super sweet and I do not like things that are very sweet. I am terrified that my liver will be a problem for surgery. I got banded in 12/07, and long story short, I did great for the first 6 months - quickly dropping 60 lbs. from a combination of following the rules to the letter, eating right, and working out 5 days a week. I plateaued around the 6 months mark when my working out became inconsistent, and I didn't push myself because I felt very comfortable at the weight I was at that point. Over the next couple of years, those 60 lbs. stayed off. A whole lot of other stuff happened in my life in the following years including getting married in 2010 and having kids. Before kids, though, as newlyweds, I got pregnant and the result was a partial molar pregnancy - basically, I drew the st…

  12. Hi all! I realise this is an American forum but I've not been able to find such an informative and friendly one in the UK so far so hope you don't mind having me here! I started my weightloss journey on Tuesday 12th April 2016, where I began my liver reducing diet pre-op. I was 20st 9lbs, 289lbs. On the day of surgery, Tuesday 26th April 2016 I weighed 20st 1lb, and now 8 days post-op I weigh 19st 9lbs so 14lbs lost so far. I hope to use this thread as a bit of a diary and would love any input and replies! Many thanks

I had a whole nectarine and was not uncomfortable. I'm finding myself reaching for a Protein shake or low fat string cheese to tide me over between meals. I know I'm not supposed to snack. I have upper respiratory distress that seems to keep me from staying in REM sleep and causes me to keep going back into stage 1 sleep. I didn't sleep long enough in REM sleep for them to gather enough information, but as of now they are ruling out sleep apnea. They suggested I do a re-test and use a sleep aid so ey can gather more data. I'm scheduled to do it this Saturday. I am a little confused, how is it I have some repiratory distress that is causing me to wake, but it's not sleep apnea? They…
