I suppose like many people I have been wanting and waiting to have this surgery for a very long time. I've tried to have it over the last 10 years and I've been unsuccesful. But now here I am a 47 year old widow once again on the verge of life changing experience. I am so happy that my surgery is just 4 days away, and tomorrow I go to do my pre op registration. So why the heck am I so nervous?! I've been reading everything and anything on RNY since I started my process 10 months ago. I know what's going to happen, I know what to expect. I've been on Instagram and YouTube following so many peoples journey. So I feel I have a grip on what's in store for me. So wh…

Well it's finally here! I am so ready to get this band out! Yesterday I had my scope to see about a hiatal hernia. With my band they will mark me as having one. They remove the band, will fix the hernia, and do the sleeve in one surgery! I'm super excited! A little nervous though... They told me yesterday that I had too many red blood cells. They said it was probably because I needed to drink more. After the scope I had to hang around the recovery room and get fluids and then they took more blood. Well we are about off to the hospital... See y'all on the other side..... HW 220. (Before band in 2010) SW 184 GW 130 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi! I just want to introduce myself. I'm a 41 year old mother of 6. I had twins in August of 2011 and since then, I've only been gaining weight. Right now I'm at 242lbs and 5'4". I went in and had the initial labs, endoscopy and sonar and have been cleared for surgery by my Dr. I'm planning on scheduling the surgery within the next 2 weeks, just waiting for my loan to come through as insurance doesn't cover it here. I'm so nervous about something going wrong and I end up having my stomach removed or something but the more success stories I read, the more I want to do it! I need to make this change not only for myself, but for my kids. I don't want to develop weight rela…

Hi, Im writing this post to provide support for whoever was in my position, Yesterday I was released to solid food. 5 years ago i was soo slim but i started gaining weight untill i reached a BMI of 36. I ended up having a resisitant hypertension which required 4 classes of drugs of high doses to control. I looked so normal, my legs and my hands were of those who are slim but i had it all in my belly and neck, my doctor, the best in the middle east, believed that my central obesity is causing my hypertension and after studying my life style and my attempts to control my weight and my hypertension he suggested that gastric sleeve is the best way to go. I had my surgery on April 13, 2016. My starting weight was 283 pounds. I do not know what I weighed before going into surgery. Today, I weigh 245 pounds. I was losing weight pretty steadily until about 2.5 weeks ago. I have not lost any weight in the past 2.5 weeks. I don't know if I am doing something wrong. I am exercising (not every day but every other for 30 minutes) My Dr told me once before that he felt I was not getting in enough calories. I am wondering if that could still be the problem. I downloaded my fitness pal app today on my phone to keep track of my caloric intake. Today, I have only taken in about 200 calories and it is 3pm here. Can anyone give me an…

I just got done reading the story of the gal whose band had slipped, we'll my band had also slipped. I just found that out after I had a upper GI test done. I had been having these sharp cramping pains by my band, and I had asked someone a long time ago if my band had maybe started leaking. And Dr.Assistant that I was seeing said that was highly unlikely. But never did they check into it further. So my band probably had slipped back then. So now they took out what Fluid I had left in my band. And I will be having the band taken out at some point in the next few months. I just so happened to go to my surgeon because I wanted to have my band taken out because I haven't lost…

As always, I'll start with the stats: HW (2/9/2016): 333 SW (3/21/2016): 287 CW: 219 Total Lost Since Pre-Op: 114lbs Total Lost Since Surgery: 68lbs I am very happy with the overall results of my surgery. I feel great, I'm off all of my high blood pressure medication, I have more energy and the pain from osteoarthritis in my knees is greatly reduced. After having primarily focused on walking on a (near) daily basis, I recently started working out - cardio and weights. My body is in absolute shock! I had settled into losing 2-4 lbs a week the last few weeks, and with the new exercise regime, I dropped about 8 lbs the first week. It all works itself out in the end, …

The only weight I've lost is the weight for my pre op diet (almost 20 lbs). I haven't lost any weight since surgery. I also can basically eat anything I want (I don't, but haven't had anything throwing up, nothing getting stuck. I'm also walking at least 10,000 steps a day (usually hit 15,000) I don't understand why I'm Not losing. First fill isn't for another 2 weeks. Advice on losing? As of today i am 73 days out since my sleeve and down 39 lbs. I feel like i am going to stop losing weight and like im losing slower or able to eat more than everyone else. I know it is probably all in my head but it is frustrating to have stalls and then lose a lb when everyone else seems to be losing several per week at this stage. My starting weight was 278. How much were you guys losing at this point and did you continue to lose even after several weeks of 1-2 lb weight loss? If any of you experienced tge dlsame feelings let me know where u are now. Hi everyone! I'm Victoria and I'm 40, living in Mississippi, and three days until surgery! Excited and nervous! I discovered BariatricPal about a week ago and I'm thankful to have this resource. My struggle with obesity didn't really begin until I went to college. Growing up, i was fairly average sized, and when puberty hit I did struggle with more weight, but not to an obesity level. When I went to college, had to fend for myself (i.e. shop and cook and make good choices in the dining room LOL) and then got homesick, the weight started piling on. After a marriage and then divorce, I was trying to juggle being a single parent, going back to school, and working. Lo…

I wish I had known about this app before surgery. It would have been so helpful, but I can't complain about all the love & support I have received. It's great to know I'm not alone....I am 3 mths out and I must say- this was the best decision of my life. I'm still learning a lot as my body changes, but everything in life is a process- 6 weeks after my surgery I signed up @ a gym, and have been consistent ever since. I usually hit up the gym about 5 days a week- I have lost 66lbs in 3 mths! I have a long way to go to reach my goal weight, but I will get there! i have just changed the bandaged on my incisions and was very surprised with the sizes. I was told I was going to have 5 small ones and 1 a little bit bigger for the port, when I have looked I have 3 about 1cm 1 about 2cm (which has pulled open a little bit) 1 about 5cm on my left which I thought would be for my port and then when I checked the last one was about 7cm just above and left of the belly button. so my question is that what kind of incisions has everyone else ended up with and it this normal??? Thanks

Hi I'm new to this site but thought I would share. I have my surgery tomorrow in about 12 hours and I'm starting to freak out if i have made the right decision or not. I weigh about 315pounds I(I think I'm in Australia and use kilos)! And have physical problems so I can't exercise like I would like to do I know I need to do something and have tried pretty much everything else. So my question is did you freak out before hand and have 101 thought go through your heads worrying about after what will it be like? How bad is my saggy skin going to be? Will I need an operation to fix it??? I think in over thinking things but thanks for listening and letting me vent Sent from…

I got my surgery date today ... 16th July so I am officially on my reducing diet until then. The surgeon recommends Optifast but since I don't like any of those Meal Replacements because they are way too sweet for my tastes I am just going with low fat high Protein milk. I sat with nutritional panels and calculated how much milk I could have for the same kilojoules and it turns out it has more protein and less carbs than Optifast which is all good in my book. At the end of day 1 I am feeling okay ... I don't expect it to continue but at least I am one day down and one day closer to surgery.

I just had my surgery 7 hours ago. The gas pain was pretty bad for a little while. It's better now. I'm walking around my room. It feels like I did 500 sit-ups. My abdomen is really sore. I'm really thirsty but the doctor said I can't have anything until tomorrow. The nurse coordinator was sleeved a year ago. She's lost 120 lbs. It's great to pick her brain about her experience.

Today makes 12 weeks post op. Hard to believe. As I look back, I see all the ups and downs I've had during that time. It's easy to feel good about everything on those "high" days, but on those lows? It's really hard not to focus on anything, but the negative. I found this forum in hopes of helping me reach my goal, but I have taken away so much more. I for one do not have a support system I can rely on, so I am thankful for all of you. There are so many of you that have shown me that even though life can be pretty crappy, there is always something to be thankful for. More importantly, a few of you have caused me to laugh, when all I wanted to do was cry. An…

I started this journey back in March at 252 pounds and was given a goal weight of 238 pounds. I had my surgery yesterday after hitting my goal weight back in May and yesterday I weighed in at 235 pounds. Let me just say that the first twelve hours after surgery make you regret getting it, I was in so much pain I thought I was going to die!! But then I started walking and using my gasX strips and it helped so much! Today I'll be getting discharged and I'm afraid of getting dehydrated because at home I won't have my IV keeping me hydrated, so wish me luck!! Lol I got so sick after my surgery with vomiting and pain that I felt like I was having a heart attack or something...…

Well I survived. Wednesday was pretty rough - I did NOT want to wake up from the anesthesia, and when I did there was definitely some pain. Most of the pain has been from the muscles under the largest incision though. They did a tap block on my abdomen, which i think has helped a lot with the pain - except I really think it only worked on one side. The guy was having a hard time getting the right spot on my right side - and that's the side I feel the most pain on (side note: this guy made me cry. they thought I was completely sedated while he was doing the procedure, but I wasn't. And he started complaining to his assistant that they made him do that procedure on people…

Hello everyone! It's been more than a year since I've checked in with the group and a lot has changed in my life. I've lost the job I had for more than 10 years, started at a company I've wanted to work for for a very long time but feared layoff would rear it's ugly head again and started working for another company that I've respected, admired and wanted to be a part of for even longer than the other one. In that time, I've ignored my band, didn't get fills and gained a lot of weight back. My weight gain was my fault, not the band. But I am here to get refocused, rededicated and get back on the right track again. Will you help hold me accountable?

My surgery was last Monday, June 6. I had to spend a couple of extra days in the hospital as I had a small complication: my esophagus swelled up. I was having dry heaves, unable to get any liquid down, or any gas out. It was very painful. A swallow study revealed the problem and it was quickly treated with steroids. So I was able to go home on Thursday. I am getting adjusted to my "new normal." Staying focused on Protein and staying hydrated. I'm using the Baritastic app on my iPhone to help me track protein and liquid intake, as well as reminders to take supplements. My surgeon wants me to take Protonix for about 6 months, to keep stomach acid down. I've needed little …

After some minor issues with insurance, I was finally approved for the Vertical Gastric Sleeve! Initially, I was thinking of doing the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass......but I ultimately decided that I didn't want to deal with malabsorption issues with medications, etc. Also, I am liking the fact that GVS takes away ghrelin, that hunger hormone. My surgery is scheduled for July 13 and I have decided that I am going to start easing my way into the liquid diet that I will have go on 10 days prior to surgery. I am having surgery tomorrow and I too have went back and forth in my mind. I lost 80lbs a few years ago and then hurt my hip so the weight has creeped back on and I am up 30lbs. In order to get my hip fixed I must lose 40 lbs. I am now 230 but of course I hope I lose more than that. I find that my self esteem is tied to my weight unfortunately and being newly single after a 24 year marriage it's in my thoughts always. I pray this surgery is the right decision. I wanted to do this journey alone as my family will not be supportive but the hospital required I have someone pick me up and wouldn't let me cab it home. So my brother knows now. Hello everyone, I was sleeved June 9th 2016, tomorrow will be one week post-op and I have my follow up with my surgeon as well. I have done well so far, my first day out of surgery I had nothing to eat or drink. The day following surgery I had sf Jello, crystal light and water; my stomach did well to hold it down. I am continuing a liquid diet for two weeks including broth, sf jello, sf popsicles and drinking lots of liquids and Protein shakes. I have only experienced soreness mainly on my left hand side in my abdominal though the pain has slowly gone away I still continue to feel discomfort while getting up from a flat surface or bending (auch). I had my surgery one year ago today. I have had a roller coaster of ups and downs since then that have affected my journey. Durning my hospital stay I found out that I was allergic to morphine and got sick for the first two days after surgery. It was painful and when they found out in the middle of the night the first night they took me off and it took 24 hours to clear it all out of my system. Then I was just fine. I got home and felt fine and did great. Surgery on Monday stayed in hospital till Wednesday evening, came home and talked to all my kiddos as I run a home daycare, went to another room for the rest of the day to rest. This Friday, April 8, 2016, I have my first appointment with the nutritionist. I'm so nervous and worried about my weight. I'm borderline for the program because I am 5'2 weighting 225 pounds. My surgeon told me to not gain any weight but do not lose more than 6 pounds going beneath 219 pounds. I supplied them with records of my weight loss over the last 5 years. At my heaviest, I weighed 243.3 pounds. At my lowest, prior to having my gallbladder removed, I weighed 187.2 pounds. I lost a lot of weight dealing with gallstones during my last pregnancy. But, as soon as I was able to keep food down again, I shot up to 225 pounds and I've been here steadily the last 18month…

I did it! I hit my goal! I sort of considered I was there yesterday when at my 1 year post-op appt the surgeon noted "Lost 100% excess weight at 1 year"' and "Normal BMI 25", but in my head I was still 1 pound away from being there (silly really). But it was very cool to wake up this morning and see it on the scale! Now, I just want the loss to stop... Never thought I would say THAT!
