  14. @@ereese310 See if you can get a peer to peer first. I too was denied initially. I was all prepared for an appeal process, which I was going to use Lindstrom Obesity advocates for. When I called blue cross and spoke to someone in Medical Management, she told me to have my surgeon do a peer to peer prior to an appeal. He did and they approved it the same day.

  23. @@gina171 Im going to PM you so we dont hijack the thread
  24. @@gina171 Hi, may I ask which doctor is performing your surgery? I too go to Duke metabolic clinic, and am seeing Dr Yu. Im actually waiting on my insurance approval, they just submitted last week. My BMI is also 49.59. My surgery is revision though, I had my Lap Band (placed 2007) removed 3 weeks ago, and am revising to RNY. When Dr Yu took my band out 3 weeks ago he discovered it had punctured a hole in my diaphram, so we are thinking insurance approval is likley. Maybe we could be buddies
  25. I just had my band removed last Friday 7/29/16. I had my band placed 3/2007, so I lived with it for almost 10 years. When my surgeon opened my up he discovered that my band had put a HOLE in my diaphragm. He said he had never seen that before. At 2 years out, is when I first started having complications with my band. I followed all the rules to a "T", and did experience some initial success with it. But once the complications started it was never ending. I have also put back on every one of the 70 pounds I originally lost. The Dr that placed my band doesnt even do them anymore. EVERYONE I know personally that was banded, had to have surgery again. What ever you decide to do, just keep in mind that the longer a procedure has been around, the more informed a decision you can make. When I had my band placed in 2007, it was considered to be "much safer" than the bypass, but was still the new guy on the block. Go figure.... I am having a revision to bypass in November of this year.
