Post op day 1

I underwent the vertical sleeve gastrectomy Yesterday. Unfortunately I haven't had the pain free experience others have had. I attribute much of this to the fact that I had a large unknown hiatal hernia that needed to be fixed. How long will this epigastric pain and esophageal spasm last? I was discharged today but I'm having trouble getting my liquids down

I am sorry you are in pain. Take your meds religiously to stay ahead of the pain, it's hard to catch up and control pain if you miss a dose.

I had RNY almost 2 weeks ago, and I don't recall any spasms, but I DID feel like I'd been run over by a truck for 2-3 days! I am sure your hernia repair is adding to your pain.

Try some Popsicles, those count as liquid and seem to go down easier than a sip.
