POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Life after weight loss surgery. Recovery, diet stages, nutrition, labs, complications, and weight regain, whether you are weeks or years out.

  1. Started by nursedennise,

Hi all. I had GB on 1-18 and just started puréed foods. I didn't get a sample diet, just a list of foods to eat: Baby food, cottage cheese, yogurt etc. don't even know when to drink Protein shakes in between all this. I can only see my nut 3x a year, and haven't even seen her since I had my surgery. I tried to see her the day of my 1 week check up, but was told that I could not because they wouldn't be able to bill insurance for it because it was same day as doctor visit. Can anyone give me a sample diet or some advice in what you are doing during the puréed stage? I was only told by doctor to get in about 60g protein. I almost feel like I was just discarded now …

I am now 2 months post op as of 11/29/2016 and I feel like a failure. I am only 37 lbs down. I was 350 lbs on surgery date and I am now 313, but I feel like I should have lost more at this point. I feel like I keep stalling a regular basis. What am I not doing right? I work out four times a week at the gym for an hour. I always get my daily Protein and Water requirements. I take all of my Multivitamins and calcium supplements. I always consume between 700-800 calories yet my weight loss seems stalled or really slow. I feel like I am not where I should be weight wise two months out. I hate feeling discouraged. Any advice? Sent from my Moto G (4) using the Bariatric…

My surgery was 12/1 and I see my doctor next Tuesday for my release and how to transition back to regular foods but want to be careful what I take obviously but want some relief and to feel better soon! 6. As i browsed through the forums i noticed a large amount of people either complaining or asking questions about loooose skin, and no that was not a typo lol. For us when we lose massive amounts of weight we are clearly and visibly aware of unwanted saggy skin which may be on our chin, neck, arms, legs, and stomach areas. Most us ask the questions, but never really find the answers you were looking for. Well here are 20 ways to tighten up your skin. Doing this pre-op as soon as possible, we will be able to limit the loose and saggy skin we dreadfully detest or will come to detest. Here are 20 ways to tighten skin after weight loss 1. I am 2 weeks post op from the sleeve. For the last 2 days I have felt really nauseous. This morning I drank some Water, you know sip, sip, sip. I was just sitting here and it just all came back up. It was surprising and I didn't have time to do anything about it so it just went all over my shirt. Now I m scared to try and eat something for Breakfast. Has anyone experienced this? Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

Everything is either too sweet (crystal light, Powerade, propel, Gatorade, etc) or too sour! (Infusing with fruits) so I have been drinking nothing but watered down apple juice! Though, I'm not okay with the sugar content. I tried drinking normal Water, but it tastes disgusting. Either like dirt, or plastic, or metallic. It's very disheartening because I used to down a little over a gallon a day! What are some ways you get your fluids in? I've tried syntax nectar and other Proteins that you can put in water, but it's too sweet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So I was sleeved Monday January 30th. I had my one week post op appointment today. I have lost about 7 pounds already. They asked my goal and I said roughly 90 pounds. (I started at 256... I am 5'7") They said judging by my "body composition scan" I should lose between 25 and 40 pounds. I have that much "lean muscle mass" that I should expect to end up STILL weighing over 200 pounds, between 219 and 226! Now... I have only been heavy for ten years. My goal weight is what I weighed until I was 34... I would be happy with what I weighed into my forties! They are telling me over the last four years I gained muscle, not fat and I shouldn't expect to lose tha…

Saturday I put an update on my profile and a few Veterans asked me to do a posting for all the newbies and those struggling with their journey to perhaps provide them with some encouragement. "If I can do it You can do it." I would read that all the time from people who lost weigh but were not as big as I was. Yea right I would say, but you can walk, you can get out of bed. I can't walk because a stranger injured me so badly they caused my L5, L4, L3 and L2 disc to herniate. I was about 320 and very active at the time of the injury. I'm about 7 months post-op. I am noticing that sometimes after I eat, I break out in a rash (once hives) and my eyes water. I am pretty sure I'm reacting to foods; I've never had food allergies or even sensitivities before. It most recently happened Friday night- for dinner I had an avocado stuffed with grilled chicken and jalapenos, onions, and cilantro. Also had a bite of beans. Within an hour my face was blotchy and my eyes were stinging. I've looked for info about developing food sensitivities following wls but can't find anything--- wondering if anyone has heard of or experienced this?

This is a rough time! During Christmas I was on my liver shrink diet, then New Years, my anniversary was last month, then Super Bowl and now Valentines! I go with my husband out to eat and Celebrate but there is no celebration anymore. The waitresses always ask if the food was bad because I only eat 5 bites, they constantly watch to see if I'm enjoying so I'm being watched on top of being full an hour before my husband. So I just sit there watching him gorge himself and not gain a pound (hate his metabolism). I feel uncomfortable and out of place to where the experience isn't enjoyable but he doesn't understand. I was wondering what people's thoughts are on cheat days regarding the post op diet. I'm currently 3 weeks out and have been following the surgeons instructions almost to the letter. But I am at a bit of a stall with weight loss, and was thinking of adding in 1 cheat day a week to get my system going again. A couple things before comments start flying about this: when I say one cheat day, I mean strictly on saturdays and then back to nothing. It Protein the other 6 days a week. Also, I don't mean cheating with sugary and fatty junk like ice cream and potato chips, but rather with stuff like a chicken quesadilla with low fat cheese, or maybe a cream based Soup from Pa…

Hi. I am 10 days post -op. Do you think the sugar-free water flavoring like crystal light ( I use walmart brand) could be stalling my weight-loss? For some reason I can't handle drinking plain water lately and that was always my drink of choice. I'm hoping as the weather gets better and get some warmth here in Ohio my thirst for plain ice water comes back. Amy☆☆☆

We have a cruise scheduled exactly three month post op. My son has been in another country for a couple of years and is coming back home for it and it has been planned for over a year. I will be three months post op. Should I be nervous of traveling so soon after? Can't really change date as it was hard to find a date that worked for the whole family. Should it be fine? I'm not nervous about the food as by then I should be able to find something that fits. Just have anxiety as it is first cruise. If all goes well, how should I be feeling by then?
