POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Life after weight loss surgery. Recovery, diet stages, nutrition, labs, complications, and weight regain, whether you are weeks or years out.

  1. Started by mzgapch,

I am 6 weeks out and I haven't loss weight in 2 weeks. I'm not able to exercise right now because I get light headed from not getting all my liquids in from my hernia correction during my surgery. I haven't eaten anything outside my plan what's going wrong? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  2. I had my gastric bypass surgery last Monday, Jan. 23rd and i've been feeling so low and depressed recently. Is this normal? I'm also going stir-crazy in my house and am so bored of watching tv. I also have a giant cyst from the catheter in the downstairs region which is more painful than the actual surgery incisions-which i am getting taken care of tomorrow. So it's a mix of feeling sad, bored, a little hungry for anything other than soup and water, a little lonely and the pain from this damn cyst. Help?

  3. ... and I don't know about you, but I'm super excited to be eating tomato soup!! LOL My leak test was the day after my surgery, so I did Clear liquids from tgen until now... I'm now allowed "full liquids" so my day has been pretty exciting (by newly VSG'd standards lol). I had 4 teaspoons of runny oatmeal for Breakfast, 4 teaspoons of yogurt and 3 ounces of a Premier Protein shake as a snack, and now I'm sipping creamy tomato Soup for lunch. I'll be having my sleeve surgery next Monday and I am very worried about getting enough Protein in liquid form. Do you have any suggestings for broths or bullion or see-through Soups and such that you liked or thought were pretty tasty or tolerable while on liquids? I'm looking for suggestion on products/brands to try. I'd like to try a few before surgery so I can do a taste test and stock up on what seemed ok.

Still have not tried to eat/drink yet.. Waiting for doctor to give the okay.. I am afraid of what to expect when I go home.... No nurses just a click away... I know one thing.. So I'm transitioning from puréed to soft foods currently and everything I look up, has a TON of fat or carbs! (One recipe had 101.9g Carbs & 52g fat! VSG portion!) Please shoot your favourite recipes (can be simple or complex), that are either puree friendly or soft food friendly! Going grocery shopping tomorrow & am looking for something to make for the week. I see a lot of posts from people who aren't hitting their Water or Protein targets and then are disappointed that they aren't losing as much weight as they hoped. So, I'm hoping for some thinspiration from those of you who 1. Had surgery at an accredited Bariatric Center of Excellence 2. Got clear, detailed post-op instructions on diet, hydration, exercise, etc. 3. Are hitting your water target every day 4. Are hitting your protein target every day 5. So as I am progressively losing weight, I notice how much clothing I can't alter regardless of how skilled my sewing is. Some things were just too big and I don't want to toss them into the bins nor do I really want to keep posting lots of this or that size to sell. SO I thought, if there were people going through this as well, maybe we can set up a clothing exchange for those who really don't have the money to go shopping for every size they drop? I have so much stuff that I would rather see go to someone and then pass it along. Anyone interested? Maybe just pay for shipping and $2 an item this way we all help eachother or something like that. Hello! I'm 3 days post op and I'm struggling to get in enough fluids. I'm at about 24 ounces of fluids for the day so far, that includes water and premier protein shake. I woke up at about 6am, tried to keep up with taking sips every 5 minutes, but I did take a nap for about 2 hours and got a little off track after that. I know I'm supposed get in about 64 ounces a day and I'm no where near that right now. Has anybody else has trouble with this? I was easily drinking at least 64 ounces of water or more pre op

The time is finally here. My family and I leave for Hawaii at the beginning of the week and the panic is staring to set in. We will be flying for 10.5 (hopefully for the first time being able to use the tray table and without seatbelt extenders) I've been really concerned about Protein and traveling for so long without access to my go to foods. I am 16 weeks post op. My tentative plan is to drink a Premier Protein in the morning before our 6 am flight and I will be carrying on a cheese stick and a P3, plus some beef Jerky. I'm really not excited about any of these choices, but I feel like it is necessary to avoid the carbs and bad choices available to me in the airp…

  30. Well, I had my first (and hopefully last) episode of vomiting. I went for a walk and after coming home, I was incredibly thirsty. Without thinking, I gulped many gulps of delicious, cool Water. TERRIBLE DECISION. Instant regret. Holy guacamole. After about a minute or so of awful pain, I felt nauseous. That water came right back up and out. Let my mistake be your lesson: do not drink large quantities quickly. Be mindful every time you put something into your mouth.

Okay - is this really just "embrace the stall"?? HW 310 SW 300 CW 244 I've weighed in around 244 for the past 2 months. Yes. 8 weeks. My surgery was 9/15 so what gives?? A 2 month stall at the 3rd month? I know stalls happen, but this one doesn't seem normal. I get my Vitamins, Protein, plenty of Water. I weight train and do cardio. I'm so confused and even more frustrated!!! Has anyone else even heard of a stall so soon after surgery?!

I am curious to know how these meds are handled following surgery during the recovery weeks (liquids only and soft foods stages). I've been very successful with losing but still sometimes have a hard time seeing who I am now. This happens when I unexpectedly see myself in a reflection and don't recognize myself, when I am folding clothing and thinking that it won't fit when I *know* it's my size. It was an amazing trip -- enlightening, exotic, beautiful -- but I am very happy to be back home. I weighed on my own scale this morning for the first time since December 19. Preliminarily, I lost 13 pounds during this time. I say preliminary because I'll be curious to see what my weight is Monday or Tuesday after I settle back into my normal routine and lose some of the bloat from the long airplane ride and the sodium from the airplane food.
