Those of you who have been sleeved please tell me what you were most pleased with concerning your surgery and recovery period.

Also what disappointed you the most concerning the surgery and the period up to where you are now. It can be physical, mental, diet,etc.

The surgery was good, I didn't have any issues afterwards, which I was surprised with. I often felt a 'failure' that I didn't really have to try very hard or fight for the weight loss. It just happened. Now when I look back I just think that I was very blessed.

What was I disappointed with? My transferance to alcohol for a few months in 2016. A very slippery slope and now I don't drink at all. It was a very dark place for me and I felt I couldnt tell people here because I'd be judged harshly and at that time I wouldn't have been able to cope with that. The funny thing is, even in those dark days, I never broke the 'food' rules and some weeks I continued to lose weight.

How has it changed my life? In EVER single area. Best thing I ever did

Surgery went well, had VGS, Hiatal Hernia repair and a very sick gall bladder removal. My recovery took 8 weeks, back to work after 2 but was only capable of part time. Was back to a full schedule by 8 weeks.

Focusing on only eating Protein was hard at first, I had emotional issues with having 80% of my stomach removed and went through a solid week of regret and tears between week 4 and 5.

It's changed a million things and yet I'm the exact same person on the inside. It's changed how I eat, how I get up in the morning, how I shop, how I plan my day, weekends, everything. It's a totally different way of living. Everything changes. And yet...and yet I am still the same Elizabeth. When my mom says "it's the new you" i get a little upset. It's not a new me, its the same me with the same feelings and the same emotions. If you tell me I was fat and ugly before, it's STILL gonna hurt. Even if it's not what I look like now. That's the thing I take away most. I'm still me. I might look like a different person to others but I'm still the same sensitive knucklehead I was when I was wearing a size 32 as I am wearing a size 16 and hopefully soon a size 8.

For me my size, my weight, my looks, they have never been what I defined myself as, but as I lose weight I've realized it's how OTHERS defined me. And that can be upsetting because I'm the same person now as I was before.

But really, that's so minor. So many things are better now. Moving is better, buckling up in the car is better, dressing in the morning is better, taking a shower is better, buy shoes and clothes is better, making plans and looking forward to going out is better.

In my group we often talk about how our addictions can move on to alcohol or drugs for many people. It's not uncommon and I'm so proud of you for fighting and winning that battle! WOW!! You are so strong.

I think about my weight everyday as I did not become overweight until my 50's. I don't know if any of you go through this but it consumes my thoughts. I am quite active and know I could do so much more in my waning years as a slimmer person. Diets and exercise only go so far and then I plateau after losing 20 lbs. Yes it will be quite a trade off as far as eating habits go but after the process there is not another choice so thanks to you and others on this site I have just found I am planning my surgery in April or May,

I feel very much more confident and happy! I am more confident in my ability to do things, moving is easy, less of an effort so I'm excited to walk each day and get out there and move. Now, I will say I'm a fairly happy person in general but I'm more happy now. I'm also really proud of myself for having done this and gotten through it. I wasn't proud of myself before, so if I've gained anything it's that self-confidence and pride (the good kind not the kind that comes before a fall. haha!).
