I actually stumbled across BP a long time ago but never joined. I read the forums as part of an internal dialogue of whether or not to have WLS.
I met my surgeon in 2017 when I took my dad for a post surgical follow-up. Even at that time he was the kindest man you’d ever meet. At that time we briefly discussed WLS and he invited me to a weight loss seminar but I put it off and out of mind.
In April 2019 I ended up needed an appendectomy and when asked for a surgeon preference he’s who I chose. At my post-op visit we again discussed WLS and by then I had been thinking about it for almost 15 years. I decided it was time.
I had a VSG in December of 2019. Those 7 months leading up to surgery seems like a blur of doctors visits and food tracking looking back. I wouldn’t change it even if I could though.
In March 2020 I developed a hiatal hernia of almost my entire sleeve. This has led to chest and abdominal pain as well as severe GERD, esophagitis, and intractable hiccups. Hiccuping for 5+ months is NOT fun! As of end of July 2020 I received insurance approval for revision to RNY. My VSG to RNY revision was completed 8/11/2020, just one week shy of 8 months from my VSG.
