I actually stumbled across BP a long time ago but never joined. I read the forums as part of an internal dialogue of whether or not to have WLS.
I met my surgeon in 2017 when I took my dad for a post surgical follow-up. Even at that time he was the kindest man you’d ever meet. At that time we briefly discussed WLS and he invited me to a weight loss seminar but I put it off and out of mind.
In April 2019 I ended up needed an appendectomy and when asked for a surgeon preference he’s who I chose. At my post-op visit we again discussed WLS and by then I had been thinking about it for almost 15 years. I decided it was time.
I had a VSG in December of 2019. Those 7 months leading up to surgery seems like a blur of doctors visits and food tracking looking back. I wouldn’t change it even if I could though.
In March 2020 I developed a hiatal hernia of almost my entire sleeve. This has led to chest and abdominal pain as well as severe GERD, esophagitis, and intractable hiccups. Hiccuping for 4+ months is NOT fun! As of end of July 2020 I’m still waiting on insurance approval for revision to RYGB to resolve symptoms but had to appeal because it was denied the first time. This has been the biggest frustration as I'm on 3 different acid reducers and another medication to combat both the GERD and hiccups.
