POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Life after weight loss surgery. Recovery, diet stages, nutrition, labs, complications, and weight regain, whether you are weeks or years out.

  1. Started by Nic Tads????,

Hi guys! Im brand new to this forum. Ive just been reading through heaps of fantastic advice! Im being sleeved in Brisbane on Feb 15. Sooooo excited! I know you have all probably answered this question to death, but can you tell me, what basic food days looks like for - liquid, puree, soft and then also a normal food day. Just basic. Kind of looking for some ideas on what to stock my fridge and pantry with prior to surgery. Sent from my SM-N920I using the BariatricPal App

Before I had surgery ( 3 months ago ) My period was super irregular and when I did get it, it was light but I had blood clots. I still have big BC. Now it's REALLY heavy, and I woke up this morning and there was blood everywhere. I've never experienced this. And I'm sick, so when I sneeze and cough it comes out even more. I am very terrified, and I don't want to leave my house... I am in college and I am super embarrassed. Now that I am losing weight, I've noticed it becoming frequent and heavier. What do you recommend? Any advice? -Ariannuhh❤️

  3. So as of today I am 20 days post op, and overall things have been going well! I'm 30 lbs down, and so happy about that! However, the past 4 days I've been at a complete and total stand still with weight loss. I'm trying to increase my Protein and my exercise routine, but it doesn't seem to be making a difference. I know a lot of people said that a stall is normal at about 3 weeks and to just wait for it to pass and not lose motivation, but I was wondering if there are any tips as to try and speed it up a little or if there is REALLY nothing to do but to wait. Also, I've been having a fairly difficult time with my mouth always being dry lately. I've been drinking tons o…

I was sleeved 8 days ago. I'm trying to figure out if what I'm feeling is normal post surgery or I need to see the doc. I have been feeling really lousy. I have headaches of course stomach aches and I am very lethargic and sleepy. I'm supposed to be on full liquids but I'm struggling to get things down. I'm getting severe chest pains when I swallow anything. I think I may be swallowing too big/fast. I'm forcing myself to drink even though it hurts. I'm also forcing myself to walk 15 mins a day. I'm not losing a lot of weight. I think my body is on starvation mode. Can anyone help? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Hi All, I am wondering if after you had surgery your weight loss goal changed. I ask because I usually see woman post their goal at 160 to 170, but later loss much more. When I met with my surgeon he mentioned that he would not set a goal for me because once I start losing I will most likely change my goal. Just curious at this point where most of you started and how you progressed later. Thanks in advance for your insight and responses.

I know this sounds like such a silly question, but I'm wondering when you know when to stop eating? Of course you're thinking "when you're full".... but I'm not hungry to begin with. I am supposed to eat 5-6 small meals a day. It's a chore to eat 1 or 2 lol but I'm trying to do the 5-6.. so how do I know when to stop when I wasn't hungry to begin with? I'm at my GW and working towards my stretch goal. I am very happy with my dress size, but I reached GW recently and I seem to be still losing inches! My stretch goal is not far from my CW and I don't really want to lose another dress size because I have been rebuilding my wardrobe (I could easily alter mist things but I don't want to!). At smaller sizes, does a ten lb loss roughly equal a dress size? Trying to plan ahead! I'm an 8 right now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my vsg/gallbladder surgery on January 10th 2017 @ 2pm. I had a couple complications during surgery which required for me to have a laparoscopic AND open surgery. I woke up from surgery with a pain score of 20+. The pain was so serve that I just wanted to be knocked out the whole time. I was given morphine(the whole hospital stay) which is a pain med I was already on for going on 6 years (chronic back pain/6 slipped disc)but just a little extra(which I was hooked up to a med machine)through my iv. So I followed instructions and walked as much as my body would allow me. I couldn't even sleep in the hospital bed because I was having issues breathing (when laying flat) …

I think I want to plan a vacation outside the country, maybe close to home since there are still so many places I have never seen. Do/did any of you have any weight loss rewards planned? If so, what are/were they? It has been too many discouraging post lately, so I want to have happy thoughts!❤ Fyi: I am only 2 months post-op so I have some months a head of me. 20. Hi everyone, I'm 6 days post surgery and I'm currently on a diet of soft scrambled eggs, weetabix (fibre rich Breakfast cereal...not sure if you have in US), Soups & Meal Replacement shakes. I am generally quite satisfied with just about anything I try at the moment and find I am getting full up easy... so it's definably working lol One of my main concerns is that apart from the shakes (which im not having everyday because they are so filling) I'm not getting in enough Protein. Could do with some advice on how to up my intake. Thanks Sent from my SM-A300H using the BariatricPal App

I'm on my 9th month post op, and about six weeks ago, I started an exercise routine that I've been following to a T. 3x a week I do a high-intensity Krav Maga/martial arts routine for 60 minutes that I supplement with a day of crossfit. So, 4x weekly 60 min workouts. I feel great and I absolutely love it! It's the perfect mix of strength training and cardio and I feel stronger both physically and mentally.
