POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Life after weight loss surgery. Recovery, diet stages, nutrition, labs, complications, and weight regain, whether you are weeks or years out.

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I was sleeved on 1/5/17, so I'm almost 4 wks out. I'm having issues with a co worker that I used to be very close to. We used to go out and I'd even stay over her house after. We were very close. Recently, seems as if when my weight loss started to show, she's been very distant. Doesn't wanna talk to me or even be around me at all. She even made a big deal over nothing and told our boss on me to get me in trouble. Now she treats me as if we were never friends. I've asked her if I have offended her in any way; her reply was no. But obviously something is going on. I don't know what to do. I have to work with her. Has anyone else been through anyt…

I'm two weeks post op from my gastric sleeve and just finished my liquid phase. For the last week I have had a terrible taste in my mouth that I can't get rid of. I'm assuming it's from my healing stomach and the lack of "real" food?... Has anyone else experienced this? If you have, does it eventually go away? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I got my sleeve done yesterday. I don't remember a whole lot. I remember getting to the hospital so excited I couldn't stop smiling. I went to pre-op they started 2 ivs and checked my vitals and went over my medications. Then they let my family come sit with me until it was time to go down. Once I got down to the holding area they have me several different meds to help acid in the stomach and nausea. The dr came to talk to me and that's when I started almost having an anxiety attack. I became nervous scared. I was really hoping they were gonna take me soon because I was afraid to have a break down. I just took a few deep breaths and shortly after that we were off to surge…

I am over two years out RNY. I no longer live near my surgeon. The new surgeon, I am not fond of as I don't feel he wants to follow my since he didn't do my surgery. I am in a bind due to my insurance. Anyhow, I am feeling off and think I should have labs done. I can't find in my original paperwork, when and what lab tests.

Hi! I've been here checking out the posts for a few months now, but just now decided I'd join in and create my own account. I'm 25 years old. I'm 5" tall. My highest weight was 220, surgery weight 191. I finally got sleeved on Monday January 30th. My surgeon said that my surgery went perfectly and that everything looked great. However I do not feel great AT ALL. When I woke up from surgery (around 6:30pm) I was unable to keep my eyes open until about mid morning the next day. I just could not stay awake. The pain was so much worse than I expected. They had me on morphine and I was still in so much pain that it hurt to breath and hurt to speak, and nauseous. I didn't…

Hello Everyone, I am a year out of surgery and I am planning on getting pregnant. I wanted to hear from others as I am scared of the high risk pregnancy and malnutrition. I am also very terrified of the weight gain as I am addicted to the scale now (I literally had to have my husband hide the scale from me). Has anyone had a baby after weight loss? How did you handle putting on weight? How did you not gain a lot of weight? I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and will talk to them about being on a strict diet. Before surgery I was diabetic and I am fearful that will come back with the pregnancy as well. Any advice or if anyone can share their story and please tell …

I had surgery June 2016. Everything was going well. Ive lost a total of 54 pounds. even though Im happy with that, its not enough. I still need to lose at least 70 more pounds. Its been 2.5 months since I lost any weight. I get my Protein in and ive started exercise, I journal. What the heck is wrong here. How can i start losing again. How many of you went through this? Im so depressed over this, like really depressed. I keep seeing peoples stories that had surgery around the same time and they dont seem to have this problem.

Need someone to hold me accountable. I'm seven months out from surgery and Im having the worst stall. Today is the last day of "bad coffee". I'm about to get very strict on my diet ie. Protein, carbs, calories, and Water intake. this is day 1 of 5 for cardio. Day 1 of 3 for strength training. I'm tired of getting passed up by people that had surgery around the same time as me. So I'm gonna get a little competitive and do more and be more. I'll be damned if I went through this only to lose 55 pounds. Ok.... Now that my rant is done. If anyone wants to keep me in check please do. Sent from my SM-G900R7 using the BariatricPal App

How can I fall off this wagon already!? Its only been a week! I think my problem is, i havent seen any weight loss prior to the nibbling. So, I got discouraged. Dang it! Today I am having like "waves" of heartburn off and on the last day or so. It seldom lasts long, but it is pretty uncomfortable. I'm not sure if it is related to gas (I am feeling just a little bloated today) or to lack of BMs (I had surgery the 25th... since then I had 2 very small BMs... one on the 29th and one on the 30th but nothing since) or maybe to starting full liquids yesterday... I wasn't very disciplined yesterday in how often I tried to get Protein in, or about how often I tried "new" things for this stage... it was pretty willy-nilly... but today I'm trying to get onto a schedule more like my pre-op diet schedule. So... can I take chewable antacids? Or …

  25. I am feeling very grateful this morning, toward my medical team, this community and most of all, toward my amazing husband, who has been so supportive of my journey. I am just over five months out, and the scale showed 146 pounds this morning. I'm planning on wearing a pair of 29-inch waist jeans today. Yes, jeans (!) - something I never allowed myself before. For the most part, I am wearing size 8 clothing, down from a 16/18. Sometimes a 6 and occasionally a 10. Best of all, in my mid-50's, I like myself and am proud of myself. I no longer avoid being seen in public, as I have in the past. While I would not mind losing another 10 pounds, I think it more important tha…

OMG my mother would kill me for not knowing this... if I'm measuring/weighing what I'm eating is it 4oz OR 1/4cup? and/or does it depend on if its liquid vs solid foods? I've kinda gone along not really measuring bc I was taught that as long as you're eating "correctly" Protein 1st, then the sleeve will stop you.. and it does.. however I'm wondering if I'm consuming too many calories *per day bc I'm not aware of how much I'm eating @ one sitting. *I'm really sensitive abt this due to my serious STALL... so no wise cracks, lol.. I'm eating right I just think TOO much!

I have been so pleased seeing posts of people who have made or surpassed goal weight. I am very curious as to how you set a specific goal. My doctor and his team of thousands has never talked to me about this ideal weight. Is it determined by BMI? Is it a personal goal set by a life occurrence (example - your weight when you got married)? Is it a realistic % weight loss from your high weight? I am also curious that some people change their goal weight as they lose. I would love to hear from you about how you established your goal weight. Wishing everyone gets to their goal weight and when you get there, that you are truly happy!!

I am just starting the process and have a question about skin. I have serious self image issues being so heavy. My fear is it will just switch over to being self conscious of the saggy skin. Are there things I can start doing now to try to keep the sag at a minimum? I know I shouldn't think about this and should just focus on being healthy, but sometimes you can't control your brain. ...chew up food and spit it out while on your liquid diet? I'm dying to crunch SOMETHING, so this afternoon, I chewed up a pickle, but didn't swallow a bite. It satisfied something in me, though. I just needed that hard & crispy sensation. Other than this, I've been following Dr's order exactly (Down 15lbs since 12/23). Am I a total weirdo or have any of you resorted to something so silly while fighting through your liquid diet?

I was just sleeved on the 7th in Mexico. I have not had any problems swallowing. I've been drinking plenty of fluids. Protein shakes, broth, water,Propel, etc. why did I just try to eat a 1/2 of a grilled cheese sandwich? It went down great but then I heard my stomach say, "Why did you just do that? I specifically told you that you were done eating that type of stuff but you still want to disrespect me. Let me show you how I treat people that is disrespectful to me". All of a sudden, there was a pain that I have never felt before, and it lasted long time too! Bottom line, I'm gonna respect you from now on!!!!!! It won't happen again!!!!!!!

My question is this, I know we've all prepared the best we can, by researching, talking and asking questions, but the thought just occoured to me that I haven't seen anyone say they were surprised by anything... After all your research, classes, phych visitis, prep... Was there anything that you thought you were ready for that turned out to be totally different or unexpected? Was there anything you wished you had know?

  46. So recovery has been tough to say the least. Surgery was January 6th. Still struggling to get in 64oz of Water in a day ... 2 Protein shakes ... and take my Vitamins. My stomach has been very sensitive, as I get nauseous very easily. My doctor progressed my diet to purees, and sometimes after a bite of food. I'm extremely nauseous. I'm wondering if this is normal, and how people went around it. I've tried the Isopure Zero carb drinks and absolutely hate them after surgery. Prior to surgery I enjoyed them. I find many things are either too sour or too sweet for me now. Same thing with my vitamins, I was initially prior to surgery taking Optisource and one night after su…
