There are a lot of questions and things that people need to talk to their surgeon about because the answers are individual to each situation and surgeon. I started a list but I know there have been more things that I've thought about before I started the list! Please help me remember, my appointment is tomorrow and surgery is 12/19! Current medications/supplements When can I start working out (lifting weights, riding bicycle, yoga, etc) Thanks!

Some tips for before surgery: 1. Ask your team to send you meal plans for each stage, before your surgery. You can ask here but you should really follow the plan that your team has for you. How can you plan to have things in if you don't know what you are supposed to be having? 2. If you dont have a NUT or support from a bariatric/medical team, Google can be your friend. Before surgery I read dozens of food plans on websites for after surgery, from lots of different bariatric surgeons/NUT's. I know some can be different but if on twelve websites they say soft scrambled eggs are okay for the pureed/soft stage, then its probably right. You need to know what you are…

Well after my last surgeon appt 11-8, I was pretty sure I would get denied. Reason being- I did not have "documented" 6 months worth of non surgical weight reduction attempts. My insurance requires it within 2 years of surgery. I did do weight watchers, but off my sisters plan/books. I never officially joined. Long story short, the insurance coordinator was going to try and submit. Well, she called and said they did ask for additional info, but not about my weight loss attempts. Soooooooo, no immediate denial, but just a waiting game now. She said December lots of people are trying to get stuff approved before the new year. Hopefully this goes through, otherwise I wait un…

  8. Trying not to fret. I start the two week diet tomorrow (low-carb, then right before liquids). I am 46 with a BMI of 41, no other health conditions other than arthritis in my knees. I've had surgery before for my knee twice and a shattered finger with no issues; other than nausea once. My Dad had bad RK eye surgery years ago and literally can not drive at night-which has wrecked his social life. He says, what if you end up with something horribly wrong... He keeps quoting a false 7% risk of long-term serious effects. I get he is worried, I had to hear him talk a lot about his fears for knee replacement surgery and him thinking he was having a stroke when he was just dizz…

I survived the two week liquid diet and lost 20lbs.. My surgery is this morning. I have to be there at 5:30am and surgery is at 7:30am...his first of the day. I am so thankful that I found these forums a short time ago. I actually feel prepared. I'm not worried, just excited. God has got me in the palms of His hands. I'm just going to enjoy my nap and deal with everything else as it comes. I'll check back in when I can. For those of you at the beginning of your journey...hang in there. Your time is coming!! I'm hoping for surgery late January, early February. One of my goals is to share as much as possible, so that maybe someone else will find answers to their questions. I've been going to my Nutrionist visits and I have the education class first week of January & I will also find out my surgery date. Was just wondering if there's anyone on here from NY?! 14. I had my first appointment yesterday with my surgeon. Dr. Iqbal in Vineland, NJ. He's a very wonderful guy. Per my insurance I need to have 3 nutrition appointments, 3 support group meetings, a psych eval, blood work, and a letter from my doctor. I can only have one nutrition and support meeting a month so this will take at least 3 months. I'm so nervous but so ready for this to be here. I've already scheduled everything and I'm getting blood work done asap. I also have to have a sleep study done on 11/22. Any others in NJ starting out? Let's be each other's support. Hi Everyone! I have a question about insurance. My Insurance covers weight loss surgery. I just had twins in June and I've hit all my out of pockets, so I figured this would be the best time to have surgery. My insurance requires 3 diet consults with a dietician. Well I didn't lose any weight during this time. I met wth the psychologist for the evaluation and she said that I would be a great candidate. So I'm worried I won't be able to have surgery bc I didn't lose the weight.... anyone else's gone through anything similar? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Tomorrow I start my Pre-surgery weight loss regiment. This means 2 Protein shakes and a sensible protein rich meal for dinner. Very little to no carbs. I'm officially quitting Coca cola tomorrow and quitting smoking. I must me nuts. I did get the unflavored Protein powder to maybe have some Soup in there instead of just shakes. I see my surgeon January 13th to see where I'm at and probably schedule the surgery. Removing Coca cola alone will probably help me lose some, but he wants me to lose 25-50 in a month and a half. I think I can do the 25. I also have to have an upper Gi x ray and full blood test... Do I have to drink the nasty stuff for that x ray? Most of the blood…

Hi everyone, I am a newbie and am still in the indecisive mode of getting a sleeve. Obviously it is a big decision as it is irreversible and just going through abit of fear of the unknown. My question is how did everyone cope after the surgery socially. I know it will be different- obviously eating a whole lot less... but family events, gatherings, going out for dinner and occasions seem daunting. How do you go with eating at these functions? If someone could shed some light on their experiences about eating with friends and family afterwards and how this was for them that would be great... Hi everyone! I have my endoscopy on Thursday! Woo hoo! My doctor stated to stop taking ibuprofen, aspirin, and plavix five days prior to the procedure. I got hurt at work this week and they prescribed me naproxen, which is also an NSAID. I took a dose today before I realized what was up. Did anyone have an issue like this leading up to their endoscopy or their procedure at all? Hi There, So I was hoping anyone might have some tips about surviving the pre-op diet. I know surgeons have different recommendations, but mine is had me do 1 week of zero carbs, which I just finished, and now clear sugar-free liquids only for 4 days. I struggled with no carbs in the beginning, but now I'm wishing I had the Protein back, haha. Emotionally, I am handling the restrictions a bit better, but now that I've shifted to almost no calories, I'm feeling a lot of physical symptoms. My stomach is aching with hunger, and I am also dealing with headaches and low energy. Is anyone else going through similar things? Any advice from people who've made it through? My sur…

I am Scheduled for surgery on December 12 and have been on the pre op diet for two days now. Im just curious to know what everyones pre op diet was? My doctor gave me a list that said 3 protein shakes a day, ans then all of the fruit juice i can drink as long as no sugar added, all the broth i want, sugar free applesauce, pudding, and jello, and low fat cottage cheese and greek yogurt. I just want to know if that sounds like a normal pre op diet to anyone because i thought it would be just liquids and no fruitjuice. thank you

Day 4. My liquid diet isn't any fun but it's easy. No fussing over what to eat and I've faithfully stuck to the plan. 3.8 pounds lost the first day and I can't lose one stinking more pound and it's driving me nuts! This is the point when diets fail me. I pray I do enough to have surgery next week. I'm so afraid my liver won't shrink enough!! Self hate is bad, I know this. It is plain and simple how I felt. After I went to the seminar, I realized I had met all the requirements. I just needed to get it together and get it to the surgeon.
