Questions before weight loss surgery. Compare procedures, get through insurance approval, prep for the pre-op diet, and find out what to expect.

Got these cook books today, I know they are for after surgery but thought I'd share for those of us who haven't had it yet to be prepared. I've gone through all the books and they have great recipes! Hundreds of recipes between the 2 books and they tell you step by step and how much of everything you need, they even already list the macros for you so you know the nutrition of everything as long as you follow the serving portion in the books you will know exactly what calories, Protein, fat, carbs, etc it has and in "eating well after weight loss surgery" every meal in that book can be made no matter what stage you are in after surgery, wether you are in purée or finally a…

  5. I started at 376, I am now 335 and my surgeon is requiring that I lose six more over Thanksgiving for a Dec 1 appt, and at least ten more during the two week diet or he will cancel surgery. I have already spent 30K on fulfilling his requirements so I can't stop now. The surgery will be another 19K. I have been working towards this since February and have been struggling. I inspect food service facilities all day every work day. I have gotten the "you must not want this enough" and my day is ruled by the scale (am required to weigh daily) and I get so stressed out over it all. Reading through here it seems most at my weight aren't required to lose this much. I am self pay …

Hi folks! So I'm officially on board the surgery train! I meet with my doctor for the first time at the end of the month, but I've begun nutritional courses already. I went into my first nutrition class thinking I was perfect and knew it all. Well, while it was mostly true (HAH!), I did learn some nasty truths about myself. I went in knowing how to eat healthy, read a label, drink tons of Water and not drink coffee. I already exercise regularly. So when it came time to set some goals between class 1 and class 2 (coming up in a few weeks), I opted to learn HOW to eat. That's the one that requires you to slow down. Eat over the course of 30 minutes, chew heavily, do…

So this is my first post. I've been researching and contemplating bariatric surgery for a few years now, but it's only recently that I decided to put my foot on the road and start the journey. A little background: I'm a 38 year old woman, 3 kids, and husband, cat mom (hoping to bring in a dog soon too, hehe) I've been overweight all my life. All 3 pregnancies were with gestational diabetes, but I managed without meds, and that has been the only time I've ever lost significant weight. Actually, prior to my first pregnancy, I cut out soda, and stopped relying on hamburger helper/boxed meals for dinner, and went from 255 to about 230. My weight over the years has fluctuat…

Ok...I asked my Surgeon's office if there was anything I needed to complete to expedite the process (self pay)...before I meet my surgeon. They told me I can work on these in advance. So, how do you go about this without a script or referral from the Dr? They said my insurance should cover the list below. -Blood Work (CBC, CMP, TSH, LIPID PANEL, & A1C) -Psychological Evaluation -Nutritional Evaluation (Done here for $50) -Gallbladder Ultrasound (If not removed already) -EKG Mary Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

I was told at my first meeting with my surgeon that my estimated date would be end of January-mid February. (This would be perfect because I am going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding in June) Yesterday, I was told that once they submit my whole "packet" to insurance for approval, it could be 3 weeks before they hear if my surgery was approved or not. Then, my surgery would be scheduled for approximately 3 weeks after that. This puts my surgery date at mid-march. For those of you who already have a surgery date, is this about right or are they just giving me worst case scenario? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Long time lurker here! I was wondering if anyone here is from CO and familiar with the Weight Loss Clinic at Denver Health. I've been in their bariatric program since June. I was told I had to fulfill the program requirements before they'll consider the surgery and even though I'm meeting them all, I'm getting pretty frustrated with the care, from my nutritionist in particular. WELP. I started this process back in May of this year. I was all set for my surgery date in July... and I chickened out about 3 days before surgery. Fast forward a few months and I found out my insurance is changing at the first of the year and I would have to go through a new approval process. So I decided to just do it, and I'm officially having surgery on Dec 21. Starting my liquid diet tomorrow. At least I know how that will go, right?! Lol. If there are any other Nov-Dec sleevers in the NW Chicago area, I'd love to connect!

I'm on the right track (WooHoo!), so it was suggested that we (it was a class) try to get ready for the liquid phase of the pre-op by incorporating a daily Protein shakein our meals. 32. The subject line says it pretty succinctly. I have a "pick your brain" meeting with my endocrinologist coming up next week. Barring some miracle cure for my issues with metformin and PCOS, I am on board the sleeve train! (That's the first time I've said that aloud, besides to my husband. I just got a little rush of excitement.) So what's the timeframe look like? I'm going to an introductory event at my local bariatric office to meet the physicians. Assuming my insurance approves this and I can get an appointment in, how long does it take from first walking in to meet the doctor until first incision?

I am in month 5 of 6 months nutritionist visits required by insurance. My nutritionist suggested I do a modified liquid diet since my weight loss has been very slow. I've been having a shake for Breakfast, one for lunch and then I healthy dinner. I am not hungry and surprisingly it has been very easy for me to stick to. Ive lost 5 pounds during the first week. However, my eczema is breaking out like crazy on my hands! I know it's the shake because I've had this reaction to 2 other shakes I've tried in the past. Thankfully I am very busy today and tomorrow so can mostly stay out of the kitchen.
