Just got my surgery date today of December 30th and reality is setting in.....this is becoming so real. My process was pretty fast thanks to my insurance and a great bariatric team. liquid diet starts on December 15th and my pre op appt is the following day. I feel like this all happening so fast....and I'm scared to admit that I'm waiting on something to go wrong. Or for the dr to call back and say they've made a mistake. So far only a handfull of essential people in my life know I'm having surgery, but I have yet to tell my mama and grandma. I'm most concerned about sharing this with them because I don't know what their reactions will be. I dont want them to be afraid…

Hello all! I am having my surgery on Monday Dec 5th and I was just wondering if anyone on their pre-op liquid diets are going through the same thing I am. I am VERY tired all of the time since being on this liquid diet. I've always been a 'night owl' and up until the wee hours of the morning, but now I cannot wait to go to bed...which is usually around 8pm and that is SO unusual for me. As i'm writing this, my eyelids are droopy and I just want to sleep! The first 3-5 days of my liquid diet i felt like i was completely in a 'fog' state. I just felt so WEIRD! Also, i went to my pre-admission appointment yesterday and my blood pressure was so crazy low. I forget wha…

I started my liquid diet yesterday. I was getting nervous because I'm not a good drinker. I had a meeting at the police dept so I freezed up my Protein shake. Thank God I did because it was easier for me to drink it. I just made believe it was a ice cream shake. I love the flavor, so if anyone needs another way to drink theprotein shake freeze it. Good luck to all. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

Hi All! Finally have a surgery date for 11/25, the day after Thanksgiving! I know I am prepared for this new journey! I have really been getting my mind and body prepared as best that I could. For anyone who went through the process or are going through the process, any advice? Anything to buy before hand? Bring to the hospital? Do in the weeks after? Thank you all so much! Also anybody have a date close to mine or the same date? Anyone in Boston who has been through the process?? I would love to meet other bariatric patients in the area. Next week I'll be one month post-op, so I'm still in the puréed phase. Just wondering how many calories a day is everybody consuming after surgery? I'm making sure I have enough protein & (trying to) get the right amount of water in as well... but as for my meals (food & shakes), I've been trying to stay below 700/day. What about everybody else?

So I'm supposed to start my liquid diet tomorrow for my surgery on the 22nd!! My husband went in the hospital Saturday with heart complications and a gall stone to top it off. They said the gall bladder is an outpatient surgery that they will schedule before he leaves the hospital. He sees the cardiologist this morning sometime and may have to have heart surgery. My dad and his parents are both telling not to post pone my surgery but we have three kids ages 14...11.... & 7. We can't both be laid up. I just really feel his is more serious and mine can wait where they feel my health is serious to and it shouldn't be put off. Just don't know what to do. I will find out …

I have surgery in 4 days!!!! It is becoming so real to me now. I was scared before, but yesterday did ease my mind quite a bit. HW:404.8 CW: 369.1 35.7 lbs down so far! This weekend I plan on spending time with friends (who are more supportive than my family apparently), cleaning my house in preparation for surgery as I want to be as comfortable as I can be, and packing my hospital bag. I cannot wait!!! Does anyone have any recommendations of must-haves for the hospital? I will be bringing CPAP, comfy clothes, heating pad, brushes and toothbrushes, toiletries... anything else?

You know how they want us to strengthen our liver. I've been on a lot of pills that have not been the greatest to my liver. I know food changes help. But I was also thinking about to yogi tea or these vitamins that help detox your liver and remove toxins. Any thoughts?

Hi Guys, I'm in New Orleans, LA going for my consultation in the morning. I'm starting at 425 and had an accident with injury 2 years ago that has stunted my life in a lot of ways. I'm nervous about tomorrow. I am a smoker and know I have to quit. I'm paying out of pocket so I'm hoping to schedule this in mid January. I guess my questions are these. 1) When paying out of pocket, what tests etc did you have to go through? 2) How quickly were you able to schedule it? 3) If you were a smoker, did you quit? If you didn't what complications did you have? 4) What questions should I have ready for the doctor? Thanks in advance for any answers I get. Sent from my SM-G920P …

I'm scheduled for a mini gastric bypass on Dec 7 with Dr Illan and I'm not sure it's sinking in yet. I haven't told anyone In my family with the exception of my husband (my friends and children do not know). I'm posting here in hope of connecting with a few people that will be there along the way also. I'm thankful for an outlet such as this to help process my feelings as I know it's going to be quite a ride. I just can't believe all of this happened so fast and it's really going to happen! Hi all! I just found these forums and will be starting my appointment process in the next few weeks. I got my requirements from my insurance company, which requires 3mo of supervised weight management and then evaluation from surgeon, a separate recommendation from physician, clearance from mental health provider, and a nutritional evaluation. I have my first seminar with the bariatric group on 12/12 and my first of 3mo appointments with my doctor the next day. I also switched my WW online to WW meetings to have my weigh in card available for my doc (insurance says WW ok). I'm a bit nervous, but excited as well to begin this process. I'm looking more into the sleev…

Hello everyone, I guess you know by now this is my Favorite place to vent.... Ok so I feel like I'm working backwards. I've seen the psychiatrist, had the Upper GI, and they both asked when is your surgery date and I told them I don't have one yet. Then they give me the odd look... And when I look here it seems like everyone does the classes first, well I only had to do 3 and I have 2 classes in one day. So I wonder when she'll give me a surgery date? I hope she gives me time to give my job notice....

Hi. I am still just researching at this point. My husband is getting out of the Army soon and when my doctor recommended once again that I looked into the Bariatric sleeve I realized that if I want to have this surgery I should do it before he gets out of the Army while we still have Army health insurance. My BMI is high enough that I am automatically approved for the surgery. I've drug my feet on it for years because my husband doesn't like the idea ( he worries about complications ) and I kept trying to convince myself I could do it on my own. I got down to 216 from 260 very briefly and then steadily climbed all the way back up. I'm sitting at 255 now and my doctor keep…

I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea 3 years ago, and use my cpap faithfully (I had daily migraines that have disappeared with cpap). I was told that I would go through an adjustment period and then start to have more energy and no longer be so sleepy during the day. That never happened, so this spring I did some more sleep studies and the doctor says my sleep apnea is under control. He diagnosed me with idiopathic hypersomnia (medical for "you sleep a lot and I don't know why"). I manage the hypersomnia with modafinil (a stimulant) and caffeine. I'm hoping that losing weight with the sleeve will give me more energy so I don't need to sleep as much, but right no…

Hi Everyone! I go see the surgeon today to discuss my date. I've started my 2 week pre-op diet so it will be soon! I'm really getting anxious! I'm excited about the potential life changing aspect. However I'm conflicted bc I can't believe I'm about to make such a life changing decision and my relationship with food is about to change drastically. On one hand I'm like Rosie it will be ok!
