I'm supposed to start diet tomorrow and my husband went in the hospital

Recommended Posts

So I'm supposed to start my liquid diet tomorrow for my surgery on the 22nd!! My husband went in the hospital Saturday with heart complications and a gall stone to top it off. They said the gall bladder is an outpatient surgery that they will schedule before he leaves the hospital. He sees the cardiologist this morning sometime and may have to have heart surgery. My dad and his parents are both telling not to post pone my surgery but we have three kids ages 14...11.... & 7. We can't both be laid up. I just really feel his is more serious and mine can wait where they feel my health is serious to and it shouldn't be put off. Just don't know what to do. I will find out more information today after he see the cardiologist.

How is your health, aside from needing WLS surgery? I think, if you're in decent condition, you can definitely do surgery. Your kids are totally old enough to help out and be self-sufficient for the most part. I had surgery with a 2 and 3 year-old and only needed help the first four days lifting the kids in and out of the car seats, and that's not an issue for you guys.

It's not a bad thing to do the liquid diet now while you are busy and stressed with your husband. Protein shakes and bottled Water are easy to pack to do the hospital waiting/driving back and forth. It might be a godsend that you are distracted and busy leading up to surgery to just bang out the drinks and be ready for your turn.

Good luck to your husband! I'm sure it's a nerve-wracking time. Keep us posted how he's doing.

Thanks and to me my health isn't as bad I have fibromyalgia high blood pressure degenerative disc disease. My blood preassure is medicine control for most days. But his mom and Dad live next door as well so they are saying they can help out when needed and as you said our kids all all pretty much self sufficient. But if my husband has surgery usually he always ends up with complications in every surgery he has ever had. And that's where I'm worried. But I have always done great with surgeries so hoping to bounce right back after a few days. I will know a lot more of what's going on hopefully by this afternoon. I'm just one of those people that always puts everything and everyone first that's just my nature.

@@genn, I hear ya.

Well, FWIW, I'm a good healer and went back to work (from home, sedentary,) four days after surgery. I felt like I never even had surgery within a week. I know everyone is different, but for me, the worst part about surgery was the anesthesia complications in the hospital. Once I got rid of the pain meds and off needing Zofran, I improved 100% overnight.

I think you'll be fine, especially if your in-laws are so close by. You know what to do; freeze meals, buy ready-to-go stuff, and clean the house/run the errands leading up to your surgery. The fear of the unknown is way worse than the actual surgery itself, IMO.

That's what I'm thinking I have everything pretty much prepared and staying on top of laundry did all heavy cleaning and organized all my cupboards had everything done even up to now in case once I start my diet I was low on energy so I think that we be OK unless it's a major heart surgery but I feel it's probably gunna be putting stints in.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
