hi there. I am new here. I have my first consultation on Tuesday. I am trying to make a consultation with another surgeon too so that I can choose the surgeon that I feel the most comfortable with. I have struggled with my weight my whole adult life. I gave birth in August and I was already overweight and gained 40 pounds during the pregnancy. I lost 20 of that right away and have gained about 15 of that back. My main concern is if I will still be able to breastfeed my daughter. I am back at work and breastfeeding about 3 times a day and pumping 4-5 times a day. I am not sure if the limited calories will be able to sustain that. I am also at odds about telling my parents …

Thought I'd share my discovery... I'm on day 4 of the pre op high Protein shake liquid diet. It's definitely challenging and quite a change from eating mindlessly for so long. I wanted to share some things I've discovered regarding the shakes. The shakes when Blended (ninja) can be really nasty to me. I have a box of unflavored and chocolate, I do a scoop of each with a lot of Water and 4 to 6 ounces of plain kefir and it is really drinkable! The tartness of the yogurt cuts down the sweetness from the Protein Powder . Sometimes I throw in a little bit of fruit and spinach as well. I also like my coffee hot not lukewarm ...but they say you can't mix protein with hot liqu…

I'm on my bowel prep day for surgery in the morning, and I've been throwing up and had nausea all day along with the poops I'm supposed to be having. In the past, I've always thrown up taking mag citrate. Today, I thought I was doing well because I drank it all and didn't throw up....until an hour and a half later. I've thrown up in 3 big episodes and then when I started drinking my Powerade zero with miralax, I started throwing up again. I am waiting on the nurse to call back and have stopped my powerade zero/miralax mix. I'm wondering if I could take zofran to help. I have to get this down to be ready for tomorrow. Any advice or insight? Sent from my SAMSUNG-…

Hey guys! I am getting sleeved on Monday, 12/19! I have been hardcore lurking on here the past few days, and this community has already made me feel so much better. Reading the stories/updates about people's recovery really put me at ease. I don't do terribly well with anesthesia, but I really only have one surgery to base that on. I certainly know it's not going to be a walk in the park, and I truly am looking forward to a new me. I'm just a big baby when it comes to pain . Send some positive vibes my way on Monday, please! I can't wait to be on the other side with so many of you wonderful people!

Hi folks. I have a surgery date of 12/28 and the one final hurdle is to get final clearance from my pcp. She had me take an EKG and called me later because she saw an anomaly....like as if I have had a heart attack before. I'm only 15 and have had no heart attacks. She is ordering further blood work before she will clear me. Anyone else have this? After going through this process for the better part of the year I'm now nervous that I won't be cleared. Everyone else has cleared me and I have insurance approval. Should I be worried? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

For self pays/ those that don't have to do a pre-op diet and those who have not begun their pre op diet. How are you enjoying your days before the big change? If at all? I feel kind of guilty eating anything outside of low carb even though I won't have this luxury in a few weeks. It's becoming more obvious that I don't necessarily enjoy the types of foods I eat but am dependent and crave it. Makes me feel sad but even more so excited that I'll have a physical repellent to help me correct my eating habits.

I can't believe my surgery is here. Two weeks ago - the start of my liquid diet - feels like forever ago. Longest two weeks ever! It doesn't help that I also was taking law school final exams while on the pre-op diet (I know, I'm crazy). I'm doing the clear liquid diet today and I am starving. I can't wait to get this done and over with and begin my new life. I'm having some last minute doubts but I know those are just nerves. Send some positive vibes to Michigan! So I started the process back in November with my initial consultation on Nov 17th...the only reason I decided to start the process then was because I had I optimally started the process in 2015 but I had to pay 5000 out of pocket to meet deductible...so it was put off..until November when my mom brought up the subject again and instead of going to her surgeon who we suspected was out of network and that if we go in network I would pay 2500...well I found out my momma basically hit the deductible for individual and family, so I soon after scheduled my initial consultation with the surgeon of my choice. I let him know that I hit my deductible and was trying to get a Decemb…

What gets me is, when someone says “you’re not that big you shouldn’t go through with it”. Then I say oh really where you got your degree at because if my PCP & surgeon say I can benefit from it I am good, and I guess the insurance company just like to spend money but okay.

So excited to get a phone call from the hospital today to say they are fitting me in for my surgery on 4th of January! I was so happy as I'm getting it done on the NHS and I have been with them for a year already and there is now a 3 month wait. Super happy to have it in under 3 weeks. Was meant to be on a 4 week pre op but the surgeon just said start tomorrow. Anyone else having theirs around the same date? Sent from my B3-A20 using the BariatricPal App

So here is the deal. I hear some much conflicting stories about the pain after surgery Some people get up and walk like nothing had happend. And others are crying and wailing from the pain As a emotional person myself i can handle pain but it scares me if im going to suffer like hell. Even though i will but it still confusing what to expect. So can somebody explain what it is exactly that is going to hurt and for how long? So i can prepare myself for the initial blow.? So sorry for this post again. But if i know what pain to expect and how awful is going to be i can by stuff to ease it. Its the same surgery and so many people have different experiences S…

So I been reading a lot on here that people have to do the liquid diet before surgery. Can someone tell me why your doctors have you do that? I'm 3 months out from my surgery my doctor did not make me do a liquid diet. Just no food or water after midnight. Just wondering where you guys are from and where you guys go that they have you do that?

My surgeons office is submitting everything for approval today. They are trying to fast track me after three months of the supervised diet. The tests that were required were: -Psychological -EGD -Pulmonary Function Test -Cardiac Clearance (EKG) -Bloodwork (11 vials worth) -Nutrition (2 visits-1 group, 1 individual) If I hadn't already had my gallbladder out 7 years ago I would have had to do an ultrasound to check that out. I already have severe sleep apnea, first tested in 2008. The insurance coordinator said we should know something as early as tomorrow but no later than Tuesday. So I'm just about two weeks before my surgery and having some slight pain on my left side just about where I think my stomach would be and in the exact place that I had gallbladder pain years ago (before I had my gallbladder remover). Is this anything to be concerned about or is it just my mind playing tricks on me? I'm prone to anxiety and feeling very nervous about the surgery.

Then last night and today I've been having these crazy crying jags, at work even! Is this normal? How do you get through it?

I am in the research phase of my journey to have my failed lapband removed. I have been contacted by AOL bariatrics among others, but what stood out for me is the direct contact with the doctor, through his nurse or representative.. concerning my qualifications and what procedure would work best for me. I am impressed with that. So if anyone has had them do their procedure please feel free to contact me with their experiences.

If we are all getting the same surgery...bypass, why are different Vitamins suggested by surgeons. For instance my surgeon specifically told me no Flintstones chewables or Centrum. IDK I'm just thinking we all need the same amount of vitamins after surgery... correct? I feel like I have to purchase the more costly ones from particular websites until I can swallow actual pills. At least that's how I feel about my Multivitamin. I know I can grab the others at any drugstore. Am I missing something? Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

I am single and live with my 2 dogs. So, I need family assistance with Hospital and the dog care when I go in for surgery. My whole family has been understanding, but last night my dad had a glimmer in his eye of excitement for me.
