What to expect from first appointment

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

It has been a long time that I posted anything on here.

My appointment with my surgeon is up next week. And i feel very anxious

My question is what to expect from this meeting for the first time? What is the surgeon going to do

Thanks in advance.

It depends on your insurance. My first appointment all they really did was weigh me and take a good medical history. They also asked me in detail about all the times I have tried to lose weight and failed, or failed to keep it off.

They gave me a check-list of everything my insurance requires for approval. The only thing I was missing was a psych eval, which they set up soon after my appointment.

Some insurance companies require several months of recorded weights, some require a letter from you primary care doctor, some require numerous visits with a nutritionist. Lots of variables out there.

Oh, and most surgeons will discuss the different types of surgery and pros and cons of each one with you.

My first appt was very short. I had already been to the seminar, so he asked me which surgery I wanted. He listened to my chest and asked if I have heart burn, then agreed the sleeve was a good choice. He said someone will be calling me within two weeks to schedule the nutritionist appt. He asked if I had any questions. That was it. Short and sweet. :)

I feel like I have jumped the gun in away. I have not had my first visit with my surgeon, but when I scheduled the apt they assigned me a advocate. My advocate faxed me the criteria of things I need to be approved. I scheduled my psych eval, just scheduled my nut/exercise class and I have a weigh in on 1/3 and 2/2. The only thing I know I lack is my blood work which I will do in January after my surgeons visit. I have been trying to make sure I have everything I need and done just right. I can honestly say I have no idea what my first surgeon apt will look like..NERVOUS!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
