Hey guys My name is Norman.. I'm 25 years of age and I'm starting my pre-op Bariatric surgery (sleeve) journey. My hospital where I'm having my surgery is the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.. My surgeon will be Dr. Noel Williams (head of department) and my first appointment is scheduled for 07/20/16, I attended an informational session yesterday and I say I'm about 90% sure I want the surgery. I'm currently 5 foot 9 and 390 Pounds with a BMI of 56.6 and though I don't look like it... many people say that.. I feel/am the biggest I ever was in my life!!! this is actually the second time I reached an astronomical weight.. at 17 I reached a high of 309 accompanied by…

Okay, so I called my insurance company to see if there are any requirements that I may need to do before surgery since I have been reading on this forum that a lot of insurance companies has requirements. So my insurance company told me that I have to do a 90 day supervised diet program before approval. Do anybody know what those 90 days consist of? and I also seen people have a list of things to do before the surgery is even scheduled.. is that what your surgeon wants or the insurance company?

I keep hearing that the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink/soften the liver, but I can't get a clear answer on how you know if your liver even needs this. My blood work all came back normal. I "only" weigh 222 pounds, with a BMI of 40. From what I can reason out, my liver is already softer and more pliable/movable than the liver of someone who weighed 300+ pounds for years, but have managed to lose 20 or 30 pounds with a pre-op diet. Hey! I'm scheduled to be sleeved on Jan 16 (with mixed support from the people I love)! I'm supposed to start a liquid diet the day after tomorrow. I have mixed feelings. I know this is something I want, and that people's major regret is not doing it sooner, but I can't shake the feeling that things (portions, food choices, well-meaning friends' questions, drinking) will never be the same. I quit smoking years ago without mourning it, but the final cigarette was emotional. Seeking advice or words of wisdom or encouragement as I stop my bad habits, and l say goodbye to overeating, for the pre-sleeve liquid diet. Thanks!

Hello everyone! I am new to this and I'm in the process of completing all of my testing (blood work, cardiology clearance, psychological interview, nutritionist) for the Lapband. If all goes well, I will have a date set for January 2017. I am a little nervous because I've never been put to sleep before nor have I had surgery. How is it when people wake up from the procedure? Is the pain minimal and is there a large drop of weight the first month? Any advice would be so appreciated! Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

I'm so confused :confused5: I'm pre-op 12/6/11 very excited. I thought you could eat so very later at this early stage. I thought you had to measure and only eat 3 oz., and i hear people can not always get that down. You're eating small portions right?? And how about H20, are you able to drink 62 oz., thats something that will be hard for me. (above i meant to say little instead of later on 1rst line) Drinking all that water sip by sip and still getting it down. I don't, i might not understand everything. Any info and help anyone can explain to me would be so nice. :help: kathy

So Leave it to me to put this out there in the VSG World... But I have to be honest and warn ppl. SO yesterday I had 2 appointments one with the Psychologist and a Upper GI. Well of course I was told to remove all piercings so I did before I left home. Well I was away for 5 hours, that's it!!! I've had my girls pierced for 2 years.... So why was it hard for me to put them back in when I got home. I mean it took hours but I love my piercings so I was determined to get them in before I went to sleep and they close completely! So to all my beautiful pierced ppl please learn from my mistake. Buy some plastic Jewelry to put in while having these types of procedures or I …

One year of preparing, jumping through loopholes my surgery date was set fire Jan 3rd. I had already started pre diet. Received a call yesterday telling me mine surgeon wasn't going to be available for the surgery. Therefore, they needed to postpone with no date set up for surgery. My mind was mentally in the game, ready and pumped. Now this. Any suggestions on how I can deal with this? I'm deflated and want to eat everything in site. HELP. How to deal? I have to be at the hospital in 3 hours. I am nervous and excited. I am scared of complications the most. Pain I can tolerate but if something happens like having to be repeatedly stretched is my biggest fear. I just don't want any post op complication, dehydration, needing to be stretched, diarrhea. I hope I am sble to be home for Christmas. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App

Hello everyone, I'm projected to get sleeved in the Spring. I'm really excited about that. Hi my name is Rebecca and I'm new here. I started this weight loss journey in August and now have a surgery date for January 25th. ..I am very very excited to be starting a new and healthier lifestyle but I have to admit that now that I have a date I'm actually kinda scared. If I allow myself to think about it or read articles I actually become physically ill. My anxiety reaches the point of panic attacks and it's hard for me to focus. ..I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has felt this way and if so how do you handle it? Thanks so much for listening Becca

Today marks three weeks since my surgery and I am down 40 pounds from my heaviest weight before surgery. I feel great! I haven't had any problems whatsoever. Looking forward to next week when I can start adding back foods. The soft foods stage is kinda limiting just like the liquid stage. There is only so much you can have. I have found a few new recipes that I want to try so I'll have something special for Christmas while everyone else gets to eat good stuff. Pinterest has been a big help with new recipes and stuff I want to try when I can add chicken and hamburger back to my diet. Feels good to be on the losers bench and being successful. I asked my insurance plan to send me the details on the requirements for bariatric services because over the phone, all they told me was that I needed to be enrolled in a 3 month weight loss program but the details said more then that. I have 12 things to check off on. Can I start going to some of these other doctors to get clearance before my consultation with the surgeon? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I've started my pre-op diet already, and it hasn't been too bad so far. My surgery is 12/27- 5days away. As of recent, the diet is making it so hard being around my family, I've already skipped a couple Christmas Parties because I don't want to cheat. The house is full of relatives that are staying until the 26th. Everything smells better and the baking is killing me lol. I'm trying to hide away with my protien shake but the smells are everywhere. I'm trying to find will power so I don't have to hide away from away from everyone. Any tips? Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

I am so excited. I check in at 7:15am and my surgery is at 9:20am. I am beyond nervous and having some doubts but I think it's all normal because I'm 100% ready. I'm a little mad because for the past couple mornings I've woken up with a sore throat and a stuffy nose (because the air is so dry) so hopefully that is not enough to cancel me. My surgeons office just called me. I was denied. She said she has never experienced this before with my insurance plan. They gave two baloney reasons First that my blood pressure needs to be higher even though I'm on medication??? WTH does that even mean?? They want to see a constant of 140 over (I don't remember the number) while trying to be controlled Second. I have not lost enough weight. I'm down to 199 if I get any lower I will now qualify. I started loosing weight on my own at 245 lbs. I originally went to the bariatric center to get help with medication weight loss. That was when I found out I had high blood pressure and the dr said definitely no she wo…
