Hey everyone! I just started my 6 months supervised 2 months ago. I had my first appointment February 12th. And so far I have had attended 2 dietary classes, had my upper Endoscopy....(they did find a hernia at the bottom of my esophagus) that he will just correct during surgery, follow up with my surgeon. My psychological evaluation just last week, and that's it, so far. I am looking into the sleeve surgery and my surgeon has recommended it for me, as well. My surgeon says I do not need to go on a liquid diet because my bmi is 46. They said they start liquid diets when patients have bmi of 48 or higher but everyone I talk to says they have to do at least 2 weeks . I even called and they said it's not necessary. Hi all, My insurance does not require referrals, so I didn't talk to my primary care doctor about weight loss surgery prior to having a consult with the bariatric surgeon's office. At the initial consult with the bariatric surgeon's office though they indicated I would need to complete 6 months of medically supervised dieting with my primary care. I know this might be TMI but I don't know who else to ask. I had my original surgery date set for Jan 3, but on Jan 2nd the doctor decided I needed 5 more tests run. I was to begin my pre op diet on Dec 25th for the Jan 3rd date. So I went ahead and started the diet so that when they decided the date of my rescheduled surgery I'd be ready and wouldn't have to wait 10 more dates. So, my father's side of the family has a history of polycystic kidneys. This usually appears in the mid 30's. I have been tested and am almost 40, so I don't think it will affect me. Hello All! My name is Carlos and I'm scheduled to have my gastric sleeve done on April 2nd by Dr David Suh. I'm currently 6'3 and weigh 360 lbs. Dr Suh has put me on a high protein low carb diet and is having me take Prilosec and 1000 mg of vitamin c on a daily basis. My question is will I be put on a liquid diet a couple of weeks prior to surgery? As with any surgery, i'm just a little bit nervous. I have my consult with Dr. Suh on Aug 16th. I am trying to expedite my process, due to my hubbys schedule. So my question is who did you go through for psych eval? The person his office referred me to does not have an appt until the 27th of August. I tried calling preventative medicine case mgr, they NEVER call back. I am kind of walking blind. I have a question for all of you vets (although anyone with experience or thoughts on this topic are most welcome). I am completely at peace with the food restrictions but I am very anxious about the drinking experience (I don't mean alcohol). There are few things more satisfying to me than chugging a nice cold beverage after a day in the sun or after a workout. I know small sips are the norm post-op but for how long? I just read a response from someone on my thread who said that Bypass and Sleeve choices should be a personal choice and they really were right about that! Lol I just wish I had of seen that bit of advice when texting to my sister in-law who will be sleeved on 1/31 and she wanted to know why the Bypass for me since again "you're not that big" so I listed my reasons to the Bypass vs the sleeve for ME and she stopped texting. I picked my GYN faxed the surgeons office the clearance letter everything was fine.
