I went and saw my surgeon for the first visit yesterday. He was amazing. I have been looking at the sleeve. I am a type II diabetic and high cholesterol. I started at 202 and bmi 37 with 2 comorbidities. I have been an insulin for more than 3 years and struggle to lose a pound. My Dr. recommended the I do the Bypass not the sleeve because of my diabetes and how it would more likely reverse it compared to the sleeve, I am nervous about this. I am researching it now. I will have all my check off complete for the Dr and insurance on 2/2. He will be requesting approval for both then I will just need to tell him which one I want to do. Do any of you have input on this…

I'm so confused... the scales at every doctors office I go to are so different that I can't tell if I'm losing, gaining, or staying the same! Family doctor: 216 Week later at bariatric clinic: 206 3 weeks later at Psych doctor: 220 1 week later Pre-op hospital testing: 220 5 days later at bariatric clinic: 209 Seriously?? My bariatric doctor says just go by their scale... but WHY are most places all weighing me so differently? Another thing: Why does my bariatric doctor measure my height at 5' 4" (which I thought I had been since I was 15) but the hospital measures me at 5' 3" and at home I measure 5' 2.5"?? Why do some.plaves measure with shoes on and others …

Hello All! I was just wondering if anyone could provide me with information about the first couple of appointments with the doctors. I am going for my first appointment on January 16th to speak with the doctor, dietician, financial advisor and psychologist. I'm lucky that I get to meet with all of them at once instead of having to go back a bunch of different times! I'm not going to lie I am a little overwhelmed with having to meet all these people, but so excited to start this process. I was hoping someone could share their first appointment story so I could know what to expect and what happens after the initial consultation. Will there be a follow up appointment t…

Hi everyone! I am 3 weeks prior to surgery date of February 8th and I am starting the Liver Shrink diet meal plan. Are there any good suggestions for recipes so I don't get bored with it. Also, is there anyone else who has done this diet and found a good way to satiate cravings for carbs? My nutritionist says we can have a small baked potato with meal but no butter or sour cream... but I hate plain potatoes. Any good suggestions on what I can substitute for it? I had my first visit with my surgeon today . I was surpised to learn that I don't have to have the endoscopy, and no pre-op diet. I was also surprised and concerned, when he said I need a ct scan of my stomach because I have had high blood pressure from such a young age. He mentioned quite a few things that could cause it, but, of course the only one I heard was tumor. Has anyone else had this issue? Oh, I have a surgery date of June 14!!!! Dang.....had an endoscopy before the holidays; don't remember the results. Doc said she called in a Rx, but my pharmacy for some reason didn't get it to me. I went to my appointment today thinking that I was going to get a surgery date.....I instead got handed 2 Rxs for ulcer meds. I've got to take them, then have another endoscopy BEFORE I can be scheduled! ???????????? At least the doc is hopeful that I'll be able to have surgery AND be healed enough to go on my cruise the last week of April 2017. First let me start by saying I live in Alaska and our options for Bariatric surgeons is not the most abundant. I believe there are only two Doctors that do the procedure and the reviews/word of mouth on the two of them is not the greatest. After searching for what seemed like forever, I've decided to head to Seattle to the Northwest weight loss clinic in Everette. I will have to make two trips one for the consult and one for surgery. I just bought my tickets and will be flying down Feb 6th for the first 2 appointments and I will get to pick my surgery date before I leave . Is any one else flying out of state or has flown out of state for surgery? How long did it take afte…

Hi. I am (hopefully) having sleeve surgery in June, 2017. I have NEVER eaten well. I have ALWAYS lived on carbs. Pasta, pizza, breads, Cereal. I eat VERY little fruit and the only vegetable I like is corn. I guess that is how I got to this point. My question is, will I be able to be successful? I WANT/NEED this so bad. I will do my best, but I am so afraid I'm going to fail. Was anyone else as bad an eater as me and was able to change and be successful????? Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

I started my research by looking up which hospitals and doctors accept Aetna. I found an Aetna Bariatric Center of Excellence within a few miles of my house. I googled each bariatric doctor in my list, looked at their websites, watched some of their youtube videos and researched their credentials. I found a doctor who I liked, my appointment went well, the staff was very nice and they've been very organized. The doctor assured me he's done "thousands" of these SVG surgeries. He's also been rated as one of "NJ's Top Doctors" for the past 8 years in a row. Everything sounds good at this point. But still, I do wish I could find an independent source that could confirm…

I noticed on Aetna's policy topic about bariatric surgery that it says "no net weight gain". What exactly does that mean? I am going to a nutritionist and I have been twice. I gained 3 pounds. Not sure if it was water weight or what but it was 3 lbs higher than my first visit. I am concerned because the scale at the surgeon's office had a completely different reading also. Can anyone provide some clarity on this subject?

Hello all, I am supposed to have Lapband surgery next month (waiting on cardiac clearance), but I am stuck between lapband and the gastric bypass (no final decision has been made as to which one I want yet). Initially, I was aiming for the bypass, but changed my mind because of the drastic weight loss it causes. I am currently 222lbs with hypertension and I am wondering how much of a drastic change it would be if I considered doing the bypass as oppose to the band? Any feedback would be appreciated. I have Aetna Choice POS II. After jumping though hoops for three months, my insurance coordinator submitted everything on Monday. Does anyone else have this plan? Are they easy to get an approval from? How quickly did you get your approval? I'm just so anxious about the possibility of getting denied. I can't sleep and I'm overeating. After various diets, pills, and fitness programs and still gaining the weight back, I want my weight loss efforts to actually mean something!

Hello all, How is everyone doing? My lapband surgery is scheduled for February 10th and I'm really nervous and scared. I was thinking of switching to the bypass, but it may be too late to do that since it's been approved already. I am 4ft 11in and weigh 187lbs. I have always worked out (spin, boot camp etc..). I eat healthy and not a big junk food eater. My problem is I have to eat very tiny portions to see any results. Does not even matter what the food is. If it's not a minuscule portion I will not loose anything. I had a trainer for a year and see a nutritionist once a month. I have done Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers etc...It all comes nack to my portion size. 1 cup of anything is too much for me so i have to weight and measure everything. It's been years of up and down and a struggle. Because of my height and weight I qualify for the surgery. The date is set for April 13th. DR. Wants me to loo…

Hi guys! Hope your all well and relaxing (it's 2345hrs here in Scotland). I start my preop classes tomorrow with a meeting with my surgeon on Friday morning - very excited, terrified and whole jumble of other emotions since this has taken me 10 years working the programme to get to this point. Anyway enough babbling from crazy Scottish person lol I'm making a list of questions for these classes and surgical team and had a good browse via forum for similar topics - I'm just curious if anyone had any major wacky questions to ask but forgot at the time? .... for authorization to have a consultation with the surgeon. I just finished my 6 month pre op process that is required by insurance and apparently I have to go through 2 authorizations. When I see the surgeon ( if that gets approved) we'll go through everything that's needed to get approval for the actual procedure. So that's kind of a bummer having to go through an approval process twice. Sent from my iPhone

Ok, among a few other things i'm scared about one of the main ones is after surgery. I've read articles where patients who undergo gastric bypass don't report feeling as full as they think they should. With a smaller stomach you should feel full with 4 ounces of drink/food, correct? I'm scared i won't feel that feeling of being full and overeat again, not lose the weight and be back in the same boat. Anyone that can help me shed some light on this?

Hello Pals! Today is my LAST nutrition visit. I have been struggling with losing weight this whole time. How much did your surgeon require you to lose? How much did you end up losing by your last nutrition visit. Thanks for any responses! I will update this thread later with what happened at th…

Ok, i'm sorry but i really need to vent about two things. First, today is day 1 of a 10-day liquid diet and i'm admittedly miserable. I'm at work hating everyone and everything, i know this is necessary and will benefit me long-term, but i really just needed a bitch session. Also, secondly i had sleep study as a pre-op guideline from the surgeon and found out i had sleep apnea, this was Halloween night. I've been fighting to get a C-PAP machine since, if it's not one thing it's another. First it was my insurance, then it was my doctor sending in the wrong forms, or leaving out his first name causing chaos and making the process not run smoothy. At my pre-op, my doctors sa…
