Hi y'all! New here, and really hoping to meet some friends to help put my mind at ease! I have a couple questions if anyone would be able to help me! 1) My insurance requires 6 months of supervised diet, in the form of proof in the last 2 years you have tried 6x in different calendar months to lose weight. They also ask for a psych eval. I have all that done and done! I am going tomorrow to get blood work done, that my PCP suggested. My real question is, how soon should I think about surgery if I already have what I need from insurance? My first consultation with my surgeon is 2/01.

Hello everyone I am new to this page I am 5 months in to my insurance approval process, and I just met with my surgeon here in Birmingham Alabama. Before i met with him i was looking at the Gastric bypass mainly for the reasons of negative reinforcement from dumping. Once i met with him he recommended the sleeve. I know in the end its up to me iI have done a ton of research lately and the sleeve and bypass seem to have the same weight loss percentage just a different amount of time. I also worry about weight gain after the fact i know it can happen with both. My Surgeon told me that a lot of the reason he recommends the sleeve is because of my job which is 75 to 80 p…

Hey guys, I finally made my decision do the sleeve, I have an appointment to see a doctor next week, however I told a couple of my friends about it and all of of them are discourageing me saying I will loose my personality etc. I'm a little concerned about that, I don't want to be this skinny depressed guy. That's 1. Number 2. While most people that do the sleeve only have good things to say about it, this 1 friend did the sleeve and now is telling me all kinds of things to stop me from doing it. Such as, it's hard it didn't work for me, u won't make it past the liquid diet, no gas sodas, no eating and drinking at the same time, you will gain everything back. So al…

A couple of questions here. I need a Multivitamin. I currently take juice Plus supplements and not sure if I need the multi after all. But besides that, does anyone take Alive! and have found their vitamin/mineral levels just fine? I'm quite leery about over the counter Vitamins, like, do they even work? Second, I'm working on changing diet habits now, but four days in to it, it's a mean struggle. I feel like it's easier for me to just go cold turkey (current diet then start pre-op liquid) when the time comes. Anyone ever do that? If so, do you regret not changing earlier, etc? I do know it's probably better to change now (of which I will continue to try to do…

Hey everyone! I have been in the process of getting approved for Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass for almost a year now, and last Thursday I FINALLY GOT APPROVED! I have an appointment scheduled for February 27th to meet with my surgeon and schedule my surgery date! I have to admit, I am SO NERVOUS to have surgery! I have only had my wisdom teeth taken out and I have been put to sleep to have an upper GI endoscopy. I am very confident about how I will do after surgery (my eating habits, exercise, taking my supplements, etc.) but I'm having a hard time not worrying about the actual surgery. What if something goes wrong? What if I don't wake up? I am terrified! I am also wondering …

I'm having surgery on Thursday and it just occurred to me that I need to bring a bag to the hospital. And I hate packing. It gives me insane anxiety. When I had my daughter, six years ago, I packed totally wrong for the hospital. I was told to pack clothes that I wore when I was around 6 months pregnant. What a joke! I literally lost 9 pounds after giving birth, pretty much exactly enough to account for the weight of the baby plus the placenta. And my feet were so swollen when I got out that I had to wear a pair of slippers home because none of my shoes fit. I remember some people on my mom board saying they put makeup in their hospital bags, but I honestly don't care…

Hey everyone, so I just got my surgery date. And I must admit I am very nervous and executed. Initially I had wanted to get the sleeve done but my surgeon insists that bypass is better for long term results. I am looking for long term results but the bypass procedure is a bit more invasive than the sleeve and that works my nerves. I just wanted to share that I got my date! #fistpumps. #teamfeburary Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Warning: vent ahead! Day three of the pre-op diet and I lost my sh!t tonight. Surgeon's recommendations are two Protein shakes a day + a meat and veggies dinner. I'd had a shake this morning, took a nap this afternoon (first day off in over two weeks) and when I woke up I wanted to eat the entire world and didn't do anything to reel myself in. I could have chosen any number of things -- have a shake and eat some green Beans I have waiting for me in the fridge, for example -- but I just didn't care. I was angry and resentful and feeling like it was a really horrible idea to have the surgery. So I ordered a medium thin crust with extra cheese and veggies and a hot chocola…

I've been lurking for a while and have loved reading your experiences. This is my first post. There is a surgeon in my hometown and is on my insurance. I know of 3 patients who had good experiences. However, some of his online reviews weren't great. I've already consulted one bariatric doc with high ratings but it wasn't a good fit. Looking for advice. You know you are borderline BMI for insiranc paying when you hope to have sleep apnea. I was only 6 pounds over the limit for insurance to pay. At my 2nd surgeon appt yesterday I had lost 3. Normally Id be happy but I was wearing heavy clothes. I flat out asked my doc what would happen if I dropped below the 40 BMI and they said it could be a problem with insurance so maybe my sleep study will show something. Never thought I'd have a doctor want me to have sleep apnea. I have one more weigh in next month before they submit to insurance so hopefully I will stay where I am. I'm trying to start making healthy changes now but am scared to do too well. Sent from my iPhone…
