I know why they want us to quit smoking. It's awful for ones body. I know exactly what it's doing to me. Before anyone preaches , believe me I know. Just like we all know how unhealthy it is to be massively overweight........ But I have a question I was suppose to stop smoking all together but I have not completely stopped. My surgery date is 02/25/2017 and I still have approx 3-6 cigarettes a week. Has anyone still smoked a little ? Before or after ??? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Greetings, I know many of you are just starting out on this journey and may want to know what to do after approval ?. Here are some tips that are helping me: 1) Stock up on your Protein shakes. During your visits to the doctor, you should have been trying to find a shake that you like. For me, it was difficult since I am lactose intolerant. Even a small amount of lactose makes my stomach hurt. I spent 3 months testing Protein Shakes. The following two are great for me: Premier Shakes Orgain Shakes You can get these from target, Vitamin Shoppe and Premier is sold at BJ's. 2) Stock up on your vitamins. If you're like me and cannot take pills, try this brand sol…

So on Monday I start my pre-op diet. Which consist of many Protein shakes throughout the day. I've been doing a lot of research on different types of Protein Shakes but I still can't seem to decide. The nutritionist suggest the Protein shake has more than 20 grams of protein per scoop. Anyone has any suggestions they might want to share? I like chocolate flavored anything to be exact. I am 21 and I work in a restaurant full time as a cook. Surgery is on feb 21 and I'm 3 days into my liquid pre op diet. So far everything is great I couldn't be more excited or nervous about surgery! Not having a hard time keeping my hands off the food at work but it seems like everyone else is having a hard time. My coworkers don't all know I'm having surgery and they try and push food on me. Debating on just telling everyone I'll be having surgery cause I'm not sure how to explain my rapid weight loss not even that it needs an explanation but the nagging won't stop. Hi guys, what's the usual time frame from first phone call "I'm interested in surgery" to the surgery date if you go through insurance? (Assuming you are approved of course) Also, I have Kaiser (LA).. would like to know how hard are they on approving you and the time frame as well. Thank you! Sent from my Pixel (Los Angeles)

Hello folks, I am new and so excited to have a way to connect to others going through the same thing as me. I had my consultation with my surgeon on 12/30/16 and didn't get an appointment with my nutritionist until 1/19/17. So far I have had my blood work completed and sent to the surgeon, my gastroenterologist consultation is 3/16/17 and my sleep study appointment is next week. I have yet to set up my psychologist/psychiatric appointment. I feel like the actions of having weight loss surgery are so far away but I know that it will get her before I know it. Q: Do you need both a psychiatric and psychological approval? I have this feeling that I need both but I'm not sur…

Hi everyone- I am new here. I started the process about two weeks ago for Gastric Sleeve surgery. I am in the process of getting all of the testing done. I went last week to have all of my labs done and I got my results today. The results show low Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 levels. I started to get really nervous because I was not expecting that. I was expecting the high cholesterol which is something I've always struggled with. Has anyone else had low Vitamin levels? And if so, how was it treated? Thank you guys! So, I have my 1stappointment with the surgeon today. I went to his seminar on Tuesday, the nurse called me yesterday to schedule my office visit. She informed me regarding my insurance that because I have not been on my blood pressure medicine but a year she would recommend getting a letter from my physician but I've only been with a pcp for the last year. That was a no go so far. But she also said to provide pictures of myself from 2014 and 2015 that are dated. Check. And I also went to my obgyn and got a copy of my medical records for those two years which shows my weight and BMI. I hope this is enough. Guess we will soon find out. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A …

Hi everyone. So my insurance requires you to attend 1 support group for the surgery & I went to my first 1 last night. I have to say I was nervous at first because it's the always not knowing what to expect thought BUUUT I am so glad I went!! Seeing the panel of individuals that just went through the surgery from 2015/2016 was so comforting. Listening to how all of their experiences were different throughout their journey but that they all reached their goal weight was inspiring. Although I told myself I was only going to attend the recommended 1 time meeting....I will be attending all of them. The meetings are once a month, every 2nd Wednesday & next month they t…

Blessing and a curse. My question is, did anyone here completely lose their boons/behind after the weight loss? I have a friend who keepa telling me i am going to lose it all; but i know [i think i know] my genetics aren't likely going to let that happen. I appreciate any input!!! nomorefluff

I have been using this site for a lot of my research throughout my decision process, and now that I am moving towards my surgery date. This has been my journey so far: Around Thanksgiving of 2016, i had made my final decision to pursue bariatric surgery. I had the support of my family and friends, and I was ready to go. I had a recommendation for a surgeon, and so I made my consult appointment. I had my first consult on December 6, 2016, and I brought every piece of medical information with me to that appointment that could possibly prove that I had met the insurance qualifications for approval. I left that appointment fairly certain that I would have my surgery some …

I had the 4th visit with my surgeon on Monday. After having a sleep study, moderate obstructive sleep apnea was diagnosed, along with hypertension. I have a JUST under 40 BMI, so now I officially qualify. I've completed my required support group meetings, gotten pulmonary clearance, and scheduled the remaining required appointments throughout this month (nutritionist, psych eval, cardiologist, endoscopy) he says that at my may appointment, all of my records will be submitted to insurance for approval, and I'll receive a tentative surgery date. I think this is really happening [emoji4]

Hello guys and gals! I'm super new to this forum and this is my first time posting. I just yesterday confirmed with my neurologist and my nutritionist that this is the road I indeed want/need to take to get myself healthy. I have been heavy my entire life. I dont remember a time when I wasn't. I was working with a trainer and nutritionist trying my best to get healthy and in 2012 I was diagnosed with Psuedotumor cerebri and my world kind of flipped on an axis and life got real. I was managing better and started working with a trainer again and I hurt my back in 2013 (I have degenerative disc disease.. which in turn resulted into a herniatied disc, a bulged disc and I have…
