I am in the pre-op stages and right now I am waiting on an appointment to see the surgeon to book the surgery. I am VERY nervous. I am questioning my self everyday. "Is this right for me?" "Am I making the right decision?" I ask my husband everyday if I should do this. I know I am doing this for myself and my health, but I change my mind everyday. I qualify for the surgery, I have a BMI of 40. I joined weight watchers on 1/4/17 and lost 14 lbs, which makes me think I can do it on my own. My problem is I like salt and I like to snack when I am watching TV and relaxing. Also some questions I have are about excess skin, dinner prep for family, budgeting for the pre and…

Did anyone else get major anxiety during their pre-op diet? i'm not even nervous for the surgery itself but i'm so anxious about what life will be like after. For some reason it's so hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that i won't constantly be hungry and i have this irrational thought that i'll never be able to eat foods i love ever again - i know none of these things are true but i can't stop being so damn anxious about it all. i'm also SO scared that i will fail due to my bad relationship with food. did anyone else have thoughts like these and then after surgery they came to realise it wasn't as bad as you thought? please help, i'm so anxious!

This is my mindset right now This mindset will keep me strong.... Just wanted to share to all-- Accept: The fact that the Pre-op diet is whatever the nutritionist and doctor guidelines requires and to respect it. Accept: The fact that the Pre-op diet may be hard for you but the need for you to be successful is up to you. Accept: The fact that the Post-op diet may be hard for you just like the Pre-op diet. Endure it. Accept: The fact that you and your body may need more time before transition to soft foods and the same may be for solid foods. Accept: The fact that weight loss may be slower for you than others. Accept: The fact that success should be measured in accompl…

  14. I'm 67 years old and looking forward to my surgery date. I'm told I probably have about a 2 month wait until everything lines up and insurance gives the go ahead. Until then, I'm slowly eliminating my trigger foods, takong re recommended supplements, reducing intake to at least half my usual amount. I like Premier Protein shakes and taking 2 a day. Lots of Water, which is easy for me as that's my go to when thirsty. I'm committed to doing what it takes to embark on this journey. I'll be there for you as I know you'll be there for me. I cannot believe it is happening. 61 year old female 260 was highest weight. 238 current weight. I'm getting the sleeve and started pre op lab work. On top of this excitement we are under an advisory evacuation order due to Oroville Dam. Oh my. So my house is full of my kids and grandkids as we wait out the storms. Oh my life is exciting.

  16. Quick Question- My surgeon requires a clear liquid diet the day before....unflavored Protein powder mixed in broth is okay, right? My paperwork says it counts in my clear liquid diet post-surgery but is unclear in the pre-surgery instructions (I, unfortunately just realized this). Anyone else use(d) Protein Powder pre-surgery?

I was wondering if I could get my ekg/X-rays/dietician and nutritionist appointments through my PCP and have them send over the paperwork/clearances or if everything has to be referred through the surgeon? My PCP can refer me for all of these specialists through his clinic to make the process quicker. Just wondering if I can. ️

Hi all....I just joined this site today and have so many questions. Have been trying to read past responses in hopes I won't have to ask too much. Just curious, how long did you take off work after your sleeve? I do have a desk job but am up and down quite a bit. Just don't want to go back to work too soon and regret it.

I have an information session scheduled for tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect hence I know no one who's gone through bariatric surgery. I've done a lot of google searching & I'm still confused. I've read everything from the process taking up to a year+, all the required screenings prior to even getting surgery booked, & certain diets/weight loss prior to it. Please help! I could use all the info you could offer and experiences. Thank you in advanced!!! I'm a 21y/o F weighing 249lbs (heaviest I've ever been) diagnosed with mini strokes, arthritis and visual problems due to significant weight gain. Also suffer from chronic migraines.

Hi everyone! My journey to the losers bench begins in 24 hours! I'm ready, I'm nervous, I'm excited, I'm anxious. This will be my first time under general anesthesia. Did anyone experience nausea afterward because I've read about that possibly. If so, what did you do to get it to go away? I can only imagine the pain in dry heaving! Any suggestions for non-sweet options when on the liquid diet? I have only had chocolate and strawberry cream flavored protein shakes and I could use a break.

  33. Started by PoppyT,

Has anyone else done this and what did you do to get yourself under control again? My surgery is booked for late March and at present I am going through the "I am going to eat what I want because I won't be able to later". I hate myself for doing it and it really goes against my grain. Perhaps it is a subconscious response to the fact that I know I will need to be so disciplined in the future and it will be a long time before I can eat those things again. Look forward to your comments.

I am having trouble wrapping my brain around daily dieting and exercising after getting the sleeve. Is this a sign that I shouldn't do this? I went to my second appt with the nutritionist yesterday and had only lost a pound and a half. I did pretty well with eating and exercising but dang it is hard! I'm not as excited as I was a month or so ago. I'm not planning to get sleeved until this summer. Any advice? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello, Today was the first appt I had with my primary care doctor and he did not referral me because I did not hit the BMI of 40 ( but I'am a 38 BMI) and I have no other issues besides being overweight ,anxiety and depression . I did let the doctor know that I have anxiety and depression but still no referral . I guess my question is what can I do to get approved or is there a private facility that will take me with the bmi of 38 so I can pay out of pocket .

What I am learning is that doing my own research on how important multivitamins are and their benefits (especially after gastric bypass) opens me up to being respectful of their role in my life. So, If you dont understand something its best to get informed on it instead of rejecting it. It pays off to do your research for your own wellbeing. The focus must be on doing whats best for you in your situation. In this journey you must become an advocate in keeping healthy. It is our choice to stay healthy. Hey guys. So I'm actually had my sleep consultation today. The dr told me right to my face that I definitely had sleep apnea but wanted to send me in for the testing tonight because when she checked my throat she was concerned about how small my airway is. I didn't know wether to be excited because I know I need this to be approved for surgery or scared that my dr rushed the appointment out of fear?. So here I am just finished being hooked up & laying in the bed until the morning. How long does it take for your results to come back? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm still in my sleep apnea study right now & I was just told that I have to come back for the cpap part because we ran out of time...I guess I was required to sleep 2 full hours before 2am in order to start the cpap portion but I have really bad insomnia so I don't fall asleep right away. The tech said my dr will have more than enough data now because I slept a little longer but that hopefully my insurance won't throw this data out & make me start over because some insurances want both parts of the test at once....a little worried now.
