Well, I finished up all of my evaluation requirements. I called my surgeons office and the secretary said she will put all of my requirement paperwork together and give it to the surgeon so he can medically clear me for surgery. Does anyone have any idea how long this takes? I was told to just wait for the surgeon to call me back, but had no timeframe for when! This waiting part sucks! So, what's what happens now? Any advice is welcome! Thanks!

I am in the process of being worked up for surgery and to make sure I am a good candidate for the Sleeve I have had to do many tests including an endoscopy, a manometry test, a 24hr pH study, and an upper GI. The endoscopy and upper GI were normal. The manometry test showed that I have a "Jackhammer" esophagus, and the 24hr pH study came back as "abnormal". Does anyone know if this will eliminate me as a good candidate or not? Has anyone else have this problem? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

I am scheduled for gastric sleeve on March 6th with Dr. Corvala in Tijuana. If someone had told me I would ever consider this I would not have believed them. But, I am so tired of being overweight, having high cholesterol, hip pain, etc. that I have committed. However, Dr. Corvala has not required that I do any pre-surgery diet. I can eat anything up until 10:00 p.m. the night before surgery. Has anyone else done this and, if so, did it work out okay? I am really scared. I will be 65 in March and wonder if I am too old for this.

I'm so stoked! I started my pre-op diet last Sunday and today, when I stepped on the scale to weigh myself, I was rewarded to see a 13 lbs loss. My clothes are fitting loser and I can tell I am seeing the results the surgeon wants. Happy dance!

I started batting around the idea of surgery two years ago. I was supposed to attend a meeting and a big snow storm cancelled it. Then life fell apart. My wife broke her foot, my dad got really ill and died this past June. I wasn't emotionally ready to do this. I am ready now. I've done all the testing and just have to pass the cotinine test March 23. From there I will be ready to have surgery. It probably won't take place till May due to scheduling and waiting on insurance. Now it's all I can think about. Reading so much. Eating low carb and working on quitting smoking. I feel like this is my chance at the life I've always wanted. The weird thing is is that I'm the ha…

SO I didn't receive a response back from my surgeon's office for three weeks after having the psych clearance over. Finally was able to call them today and my advocate said she didn't have paperwork from my primary care, no recommendation letter and none of the last 6 years of medical records... I told her she better check again because I sent her a PDF file from the MTF's I've been to with 6 years of weight issues documented and my primary care sent in the referral. I know I won't get a letter of rec from him because he's a jerk and thinks I'm overweight because I overeat at every meal. Honestly, he's horrendous but with my insurance, I don't have time to change provider…

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site and I really don't know where to start/post. I'm currently considering gastric sleeve self pay due to struggling for a decade to release the unwanted fat. I'm vegan and I love it (being vegan has helped me due to my dairy allergy). I've been a "yo yo dieter" for over 10 years my weight goes up and down constantly. I want to finally get a grip on things for good (weight loss tool). I do excerise and eat healthy yet for some reason that seems to not be enough for my body type. I'm concerned that I could reach my former weight and I told my self that I would never want to be or allow myself to ever get that big again (over 280…

Hi everyone! I notice that most of you seem to have been given pre-op meal plans or guidelines by your doctors. Mine only asked me to lose weight without specifying a meal plan, I was wondering if some of you would be willing to share your pre-op diets for me to have a look at? Thank you so much! I am 6 days away from my surgery date and was really cool till I went to my pre op visit where they gave me the post op diet. Im looking at 1 to 2 oz servings of liquid at a time and thinking, "how am I supposed to survive on that?"...The one thing that scares me about this process and I know its silly, is not being able to eat larger portions of food, I feel as if Im going to wither away after surgery...I guess thats the idea, duh.. How long does it take before you feel "normal" again and can eat regular foods just smaller portions? And how much does the first 4 to 6 weeks really suck??

I've been going back and forth with the option of surgery for along time. Now since I had my son almost 18mths ago it has motivated me to do something about my weight struggle. Today I had my nutrition consultation and next month I hopefully find out when I'm having surgery. I'm excited and nervous at the same time about this journey i am about to embark on. But i refuse not to be able to give the life and support my son needs for me . Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to everyone. And good luck on your journey as well.

Last week I had my consultation. When the surgeon walked in he told me he was surprised I was leaning towards RNY instead of VSG. He discussed both and said he would do either one, but it was up to me to choose. He didn't want to tell me what I should do, but he also said if he had just read my chart (5'6, 260, no major health issues) he would have said VSG was good option. I'm worried I won't lose enough of my weight if I get VSG. I'm worried that VSG won't be drastic enough to help me make changes. Worried that I'll have complications because RNY has more risks than VSG. During my 2nd C-section my OBGYN mentioned removing excess scar tissue from my 1st C-section, so now…

Frustrated doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling right now. I got a call from my surgeons office, saying that they didn't have November's weigh in of my 6 month visits. Well I was going for my weigh ins at the end of every month and it fell on thanksgiving and my dr's office was closed, so I didnt get to see them til 12/2 and I continued like normal at the end of December. Surgeon's office says that insurance will deny me and I almost start crying because if thats the case this would be my third time having to start over because something hasnt been done right. I called BCBS AL and they told me that they couldnt give me the answer I needed because there is such s…

I'm so excited yesterday I paid my deposit and booked my tickets to get surgery done in Mexico. In 12 weeks I will be on the losers bench (May 18th). I wish I could go sooner (because 3 months is soooooo long lol) but because of work and not knowing how long it will take to get my passport when I go tomorrow (not going to pay to expedite it) I decided May was best. I had so much anxiety picking flights/airlines and I'm praying seats near me don't fill up. I don't want to cause anyone and discomfort sitting next to me. I travel often for work but it's on smaller planes around Alaska often with open seating so I don't get as anxious. I'm trying not to focus on that much and…

I finally have a date! I feel like I'm being swept off my feet. I keep hearing the date over and over in my ears. I cant believe a year ago, I didn't even know there was such a cure, and here I am about to start living the healthy life I deserve. Its becoming real and I absolutely can not wait. I only know a few people who have gone through this, but I would welcome any comments or support!
