I have my pre-anesthesia appointment tomorrow. Does anyone know what typically happens at that appointment? I have a few questions to ask, but was just curious what others' experiences have been.

Surgery on Monday. I'm on my liquid diet, which is KILLING ME. I'm trying so so hard to stick to it, and it's so hard to be on social media or even watch tv and see ANY food cause it makes me so hungry ): the packets they gave me taste horrible and make me wanna barf. So I've been drinking water and juice and chicken broth. That's it ): also my nerves are setting in. As I'm getting closer and it's getting more real, it's making my stomach turn. My pre op class is tomorrow so I'll get all the paperwork and everything done so I won't have to do anything the morning of surgery, but it's just all getting very very real. I just need a boost of confidence to make it through thi…

Hey everyone.. I finally have some decent insurance through BCBS IL. I called them and they told me all I have to do to qualify for surgery is have my doc submit a pre-authorization.. yet I keep reading different things. It's really hard for me to believe it would be that simple. I do have my first appointment on Monday 01/30/17 with my doc, super excited to start. I found a snippet in the medical policy saying 6 months of supervised diet is no longer required. I guess I will Find out Monday! If anyone has any info that would be greatly appreciated! bcbs.pdf

Hello all, For those of you who have done or are currently doing your liquid pre-op diet, did you experience headaches and if so, did you take anything for it (Tylenol)? I'm on day 2 and have a pretty bad headache. I'm certain it's from my body adjusting to the liquid only madness I'm putting it through. Hopefully the headaches will subside as it gets used to the liquid. It's going to be a long 2 weeks! [emoji4]

First off, OH MY GOSH, I'm getting sleeved on FRIDAY the 24th!!! My emotions are going crazy, but the crazy Alabama weather has my sinuses draining! I have my pre op blood work and final testing on Tuesday and I'm worried that I won't be able to have the surgery with my sinus draining. I don't feel sick or anything, its just draining and its annoying and I'm just worried that it could mess with the anesthesia. Anyone else go through this?

Hi I am new here and love all the support I see on this site. However I am very nervous. I have been reading the forums and online articles preparing for my surgery. Ordered shakes, Protein and Vitamins. My friend who had her surgery 8 months ago said I am too prepared. LOL I am not thinking so. I am so nervous today and my gastric bypass is tuesday morning. I am doing this for medical reasons and for the weight. I have severe reflux, hiatel hernia, gallstones sleep apnea and IBS. I am looking forward to feeling better after the recovery from these issues. Any support or suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks Cynthia

I am currently working on completing my requirements to be approved for gastric sleeve surgery. I started my journey in November when I met with Dr. Turton for my consult. Since then, it has seemed like every time I get excited about this journey I am on, something happens to derail me. For my insurance I have to do 3 months of Physician Monitored weight loss. Started with my original PCP in November and was doing rather well. 1 week before my next visit, I received a letter from him stating that he was closing his practice to become a concierge doctor and that I could continue care with him for a yearly fee of $2500.... no thanks. After that I found a new PCP and resta…

Hi guys, I'm Dennis, from NC. I've been lurking around this forum for awhile, just taking it all in and learning. With my surgery in just a few days (the 21st), I felt like I should stop in, introduce myself and say thanks to everyone for all the information and for sharing their experiences, both good and bad. I can't tell you how beneficial it has been. With that said, any last minute pointers before my surgery?

I am sure that this is TMI but I just have to ask: While you guys were on your liquid diet, did you have the runs? The reason why I am asking is because every 2 hours I am heading to the bathroom with liquid results. I am just wondering if this is normal. Again I do apologize if this is gross, I just want to know, what are some things you did to relieve this issue without breaking your diet. Thanks,

I am a newbie! Looking to have gastric bypass in August. I think I am ready but I am not sure. Am I ready to commit to a different future? I want to think so. I am a healthy 45 year old mom of 4. I have two grown children and a 16 and a 9 yr old. I think I am ready to do something that is just for me. I am also very scared!!!! How do you know you are really ready?? I am very fortunate to not have any physical difficulties that go along with being very overweight but I know that they are right around the corner and I want a different future than the one I see if I stay on the path I am on. Did any of you ever have a moment when you thought "YES!!"? If so, when? …

My surgery date is Thursday 3/16. I have stopped my daily aspirin and Coumadin regime. However, I'm slightly confused on taking the medicine "ursodiol" to prevent gallstones. My surgeon instructions said to stop aspirin, herbal medicines, & coumadin but, my weight loss dietician wrote on my notes to start my pre op diet 2 weeks before surgery AND start taking ursodiol 2 weeks prior to surgery I'm going to call in the morning...and get the correct answer but, it's bothering me until then....I don't want my surgery postponed because I took the meds or I shouldn't have taken them....I haven't taken anything but protein shakes....no vitamins either.... What meds have you …

I have completed all of my goals except for another 2 lbs to lose and my last supervised weight loss meeting this week. I'm getting nervous whether I'm making the right decision. I feel like if I could've lost the weight without surgery it would've happened. I know I'll feel better without the extra weight on my knees and my back. But as the time gets closer I worry about complications. I worry that maybe I should just stay the way I am. I'm just scared. It's not like this decision was made lightly either I debated for several years before making the inquiry. Any advise?

Hi all, I am 4 months into my 6 month pre op. I just met my surgeon today for the first time and am confused as ever. I had originally chosen bypass, but everything in me is telling me to do the sleeve. Today, he told me that he would do whoever I wanted but if I did the sleeve I would probably only lose 10 points off my BMI and would still be at a 40 (I'm a 50 now) he then told me I would have better results with bypass. I left feeling confused to say the least. Anyone have any words of wisdom for me? Personal experiences, similar experiences, etc?

I talked to my doctor's office today, and I thought I had two more appointments until everything would be submitted. She informed me my insurance made some changes, and my last weigh in will be in three weeks, and everything will be submitted. I have bcbs. How long does it usually take for the approval process? I'm getting so excited, I cannot believe it is almost here. I'm struggling making changes because I'm in the faze eat everything I want because I won't be able to before long. Also I gained 4 pounds last month. Will that be an issue?

First of all: Yes, I realize this is a total first world problem, and I'm very lucky. I apologize if this rant makes me sound like a jerk. I have my pre-op appointment on Monday, so today I started getting my ducks in a row RE: FMLA. I have read, re-read, and read again our FMLA/leave policies, and one of the provisions we have is that we are allowed to hold back 40 hours of paid leave while on FMLA so that we don't have to exhaust all paid time off for medical reasons. My husband and I love to travel, and are fortunate enough not to technically "need" my salary (I mean, we do, but we can get by without it here and there), so we decided that we could forgo using all …

Posted 1 hour ago · Report post Hello! My name is Julie. I am preparing for a possible total gastrectomy. I have had gastroparesis since 2003- that's when my symptoms started. It took until 2005 to get a diagnosis. Then it took till 2007 to get a gastric pacemaker placed. It helped for awhile. I had constant nausea and vomitting from 2003 until I got the pacemaker. After the pacemaker I was better for awhile. Then, the pacemaker began to rub the nerves in my stomach and had to be moved. Then it quit helping with the nause so the dr turned it up to a higher setting. All the while I am still overweight. Then the battery died so it had to be changed. That…

Hi guys I'm new to this site. So I've been thinking of getting the sleeve for a few months and I have done a bunch of research on it. I've made an appt to meet with a doctor but I was wondering what type of question should I ask her. If one of you could help me out I'd really appreciate it! Also I was wondering how long of a process is this like should I expect to have my surgery soon or does it take a while to get everything taken care of?

Hello, I just found out my insurance will cover the surgery. I see my doctor in April. I have a million questions and I am beyond nervous and excited and scared and hopeful. I had lap band in 2011 and it failed. I had it removed a year later. Here are my questions: 1. Can I still throw up after surgery? 2. Can I still burp? 3. I have heard people can't eat pasta, bread or salad? 4. Is it strictly liquid for 8 weeks post op? 5. What kind of a diet do you have after solid food is introduced? 6. A friend had surgery and she doesn't realize it but she does say her stomach hurts a lot ? 7. I have fibromyalgia and am concerned about th…
