I am having my gastric sleeve on April 25. My main concern is the nausea after surgery. Also I am a mother/baby nurse and work 12 hour shifts. I am taking off 3 weeks. My doctor said I could go back after 1 week, but I don't know if I can work 12 hours just eating liquids? Any other nurses go back to work after 1 week?

To everyone out there that's having surgery this week, good luck, praying everything will be successful for us all. Hopefully we can encourage each other and be supportive. With that said, I'm so anxious and nervous today I got a headache and felt nauseated ( could be from lack of food lol ).

Hi All, I'm getting sleeved on April 20 and my WLS program doesn't include psych as a part of it. I am considering wether pursuing this myself as others I know who have had the surgery commented about mental state as now they have so much time on hand now they aren't preoccupied with eating or thinking about it as much as they did previously. I am definitely an emotional eater and worried about how this will impact my success. Any sleevers have advice about success and psych/counselling through the process?

I am scheduled for surgery this Wednesday I'm anxious to lose the weight but afraid of the strict diet restrictions anybody that's had this surgery can you give me any advice and how hard is it to comply with the new food restrictions like my pre-op liquid diet for a week and right now I'm starving

My current weight is 210 pounds and I'm 5'4". My goal weight is 130 pounds. I'm 29 so I'm hoping age & being at a slightly lower weight might be on my side with this... is there anything else I can do to prevent loose skin? I'm particularly concerned with my arms and legs. I'm already planning on a MMO so the tummy area doesn't bother me. It's already beyond hope after having kids lol Exercise? Laser treatments?

I am so nervous and excited. I started this journey on January 5th so everything has been so quick. I am so ready for this change!! Anyone else having surgery that day? I would like to find a buddy to exchange numbers with.

I'm on day 3 of the pre-op diet and my stomach keeps rumbling! I know it will get better each day, but it's already certainly more difficult than I anticipated. The only good thing about my pre-op diet is that I get to have real food at dinner time (3-6 oz of lean Protein and 1 cup of non-starchy vegetables). Otherwise it's Water and Protein shakes.

My doctor recommends Iron, I've tried Bariatric Advantage grape chewable and find the taste hard to stomach. Can anyone recommend an Iron supplement that does taste too bad and doesn't cause horrible burp taste?

Looking for families who are considering going through bypass surgery together. Or perhaps you're still trying to convince another family member. I'm working on a documentary series and I'd like to chat. Please send me a private message if you're open to sharing your story. Thanks.

I'm sure it's just nerves, and i was told with BCBS it takes longer than most other insurance companies, but I'm going nucking futs. Had my initial dr appt in Dec, nut appt Jan 10th, and psych eval Jan 16th.... trying to wait patiently.... i estimated the max of 6 wks being Feb 27th.... 4 wks being Feb 13th. I called BCBS yesterday, and they said my status is still pending.... anybody in this boat with me? Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

Has anyone started their liquid diet early. I'm trying to get use to not eating solids for a while. I am drinking a protein shake for breakfast and then for lunch, and then I eat a small dinner. Is this a bad idea? I have my last weigh in Tuesday, and everything will be submitted.

Just wondered if anyone has had the experience that they had a gallstone prior to surgery? Since I am in my 6 month waiting period for surgery i have been found to have a large stone. I am wondering if most surgeons would do two separate surgeries or remove the gall bladder at the same time as Sleeve? Thank you for any input.

I am scheduled to have my sleeve surgery in June, I have been going back and forth between excitement and fear. Today was just another "reminder" of why I NEED this surgery so bad. I was taking my niece into the gym for her softball practice, it was a downhill walk, then up 2 flights of steps into the gym. For the first time in my life, I got extrememly winded and felt like I was going to pass out. It was the scariest feeling ever (it didn't help that the gym was EXTREMELY HOT) This never evwn happened to me when I weighed 310 lbs! (I now weigh 276) I know now that I need to be more scared of NOT having sugery than having it.

Anyone not wanting to read a rant, exit now. I'm pissed. I've had to go through the motions for five months now for my six month waiting period before I can have surgery, which is scheduled for April 17th. I'm pissed because everything I learned from the nutritionist, I had learned before on the million other diets I've tried and the forums I've read. She told me that most people, at the end, say that they are so happy that they had this time to learn and prepare. I'm not. I'm just pissed that I had to wait. My mother did not have to wait for six months before her breast cancer surgery so she could learn to live with breast cancer. My nie…

So much running through my head.... tonight I actually felt a rush of anxiety when I start thinking about it. Sx is scheduled for may 31st. I know this will be an amazing and life changing process but it's like an emotional rollercoaster at times! I'm in nursing school and work at a hospital 3 days a week in radiology. I feel like the need for routine is important and I haven't even gotten that down yet!! [emoji85]

First , Sorry if this as been asked. I couldn't find any answers regarding this. My insurance company (BCBS of IA) states that Bariatric Surgery is not a covered procedure. It reads "Bariatric and morbid obesity-related surgery, including but not limited to panniculectomy or other body contouring procedures, is excluded". But, she did say something about Physician sending in MR for approval. Has anyone had this answer, but was still approved for their surgery? What criteria is needed to be approved? I have registered for a seminar with a surgery team, not until the end of April. But a bit nervous, and don't want to waste time if the surgery won't be ap…

I'm glad to say I'm completely finished with everything that was on my checklist required from the insurance and the surgeon! I just have 1 last weigh in to do on April 28th and everything will get submitted to the insurance after that. The good thing is, my insurance approval turnaround time is 72hrs!! I am overly excited. My doctor only wanted me to lose 5lbs before surgery and I lost 7 so far. (3 month program) but I am willing to lose as much more as I can to be healthy! anyone have any tips for me?

I'm scared. Scared as f***. This entire process, I've been pretty cool and calm. Not worried too much. Kind of excited. That all ended when the hospital called me today to confirm my surgery and arrival time. It's the unknown that's freaking me the hell out all of a sudden. How much pain will I be in? How will I handle the anesthesia? Will it make me sick? What if I fail at getting enough protein and water in? Yikes. [emoji50]

It's been a few months since I went to my info session and first appointment at my primary hospital. I was denied from their program because they didn't deem my health issues weight related. They I insisted I get put on 2 different hypertension meds just so I can be able to start the program. I went to an appt @ my primary & he referred me to a diff hospital, although frustrated to start over the proccess I am so happy!!! I didn't have to wait at all, I registered to the hospital today, did my info session online and called to schedule an appt. They booked me for ALL the neccesary apts (Surgeon, Nutrition class, Nutrition assessment, nutrition follow up and psych eval…

I had my first meeting with the surgeon on March 2, received my list of all my required testing and procedures. Every step of the way there are issues found which add more appointments. I now have two procedures pending cardio clearance because I had an abnormal EKG and they think i may have had a prior heart attack. I have found gynecological, cardio, sleep, and bloodwork issues that all need to be addressed. Appointments 2-3 days a week for the past 3 weeks, with some days having 2 appointments each. I just had my cardiac stress test yesterday and that came back pretty good so I think I am finally getting cardiac clearance to get my other two procedures done. So f…

So I went to my last pre op appointment on Tuesday. The bypass is still scheduled for early Monday morning yay! So my question is has anyone been told they have a large fat deposit by their heart and that they have a possible hole in their diaphram ? Apparently it's a birth defect because I was born premature. Doc said it was pretty rare . Just wondering if anyone has been told this and how the outcome was ect.

Has/Is anyone planning on having a real last meal during the last of the your liver shrink diet? I can't do it on the last day obviously, because I will be on clear liquids, but I was thinking of doing it the day before. Is it better or worse to do it sooner rather than later like close to surgery? Thoughts?

I know I will do everything in my power to use my upcoming surgery to it's fullest and get the maximum benefit from it. I also am not a judgmental person. But I am scared to death of going through all this process and needing a revision in 5 years. What would make someone need one, because I know everyone who has a revision isn't eating off the wall. How do you know if you'll need one? Is there a way to make sure I only have to go under the knife once?

I am set for surgery April 10th but I have been doing some test because I have been under an enormous amount of stress with work and home issues and I had an echo cardiograph done and the Dr. said for me not worry but I had an enlarged left side of my heart and some high blood pressure In my heart. I really don't want to postpone my surgery but the soonest I can get to see the cardiologist is May. I know that this surgery will help improve my over all health and need it ASAP. Question is should I wait or not? I am starting the liquid diet this week. So.... any one have advise for me??.....
