How hard has it been for everyone to change your eating habits pre-op? I'm so afraid of failing because we get lazy on some nights and no one wants to cook dinner. In turn I slip up and eat something that is a big no-no.

My Hubby and I are going in for consult to have a GBP. He and I have made a list of questions for the doctor, that we meet up with in a couple days. This Dumping topic is a huge question. Ok, dumping happens from the body not being able to process sugars and excess fat. Does this dumping happen in the beginning, shortly after surgery, for a little while, for the 1st year or so? or, does this happen for the rest of our life? Does this mean that we can no longer ever have a spoon of ice cream and a bite of cake, ever? So many questions. I also have a question about BM's. I read that some people get diarrhea, is it controllable? Can the Diarrhea be uncontrollable, happe…

Super excited. My surgeon requires 1week pre op liquid diet. Has anyone used the NECTAR protein powder? I have tried Premier shakes. They are ok, but I feel they are somewhat heavy. Also how long did you wait before driving?

I'm so nervous about my surgery. I'm getting the sleeve and I haven't seen very many people on here over 300lbs who are getting the sleeve. I've lost almost 100lbs on my own in the past, but I always gain it back. I know how to eat well and I have a fantastic support system and trainer, but I still worry that I will fail. Has anyone over 300lbs had success with the sleeve?

I was just approved to start the Stage II Molina Bariatric Surgery Program(Apple Health) last week! (8/11) First NUT appointment is today and I'm already overwhelmed by all the criteria. Lol I'm so nervous because I soooo don't want to screw this opportunity up. I'm constantly thinking of how many times I've let myself down doing other things. I already know that I won't have the money to afford this in the future, so I better cut the crap right now.. lol Argh! My nerves.. so anxious.. Anyone starting their journey now and looking at Spring 2017 surgery date (If all goes well) ? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

Can't believe my day has come. I've been trying to mentally prepare but now that the time has come I'm petrified. So many thoughts running through my head. Worried about not waking up and uncontrollable pain when I awaken from surgery. I'm being revised from Sleeve to RNY due to severe GERD having hernia repair as well. Been on Clear liquids only all day just feeling awful in every way.

I haven't have surgery yet and I'm already having a sensitivity to refined sugar. I'm four months into my pre op nutritionist monitored diet. Today I had a piece of my son's birthday cake and it's killing my digestive system. I had one last Friday also and the same thing happened. I've been pretty good following my diet, but have just noticed on days I have problems. Anyone else notice this? Is this an indication that I will have bad dumping after surgery?

Hello all. Im struggling with not eating. I can smell the food through the walls of my apt building. I went out for the first time and I could smell the BBQ in the air. My Docs recovery is very strict compared to others i see. Will be on Protein for 5 more weeks, then mush. Ive been holding on but i was determined to have a soft scrambled egg yesterday, but its not worth the complications that may come. How are others doing and how did you over come this stage?

I am waking during the night with horrible cramps and spasms in areas I don't normally get cramps. It sometimes happens during the day as well. Eg. Top of foot, back, stomach, behind knee etc. I also get them in my legs and toes. But I am getting them more frequently now than I ever did. I am sure my body is lacking something. I am drinking lots of Water and taking my Vitamins. I am also taking extra magnesium citrate. I am on day 7 of my pre op diet. Just want to know if anyone else is experiencing this?

Less than 2 days until surgery (Wednesday at 7am) and I am starting to freak the hell out. I have no second guesses and am extremely excited, but I'm scared. I'm not scared of the pain and recovery- I know it will be hard but I know I can do it. I'm scared of not waking up. I'm scared of waking up with the breathing tube still in. I just want it to be over already so I can get on with the rest of my life.

So I just got back from a small family reunion for my Grandmothers 90th birthday. When I said large family in the title I wasn't referring to the number of people there but the size of the people there. I found out that a couple of them had had either bypass, sleeve, or the band in the past. The problem was they were all telling me how it failed and they just gained all their weight back. This was pretty eye opening for me to say the least. I know surgery is a just a tool in the weight loss tool belt and can be defeated. All the ones I talked to had one thing in common...they never went to a support group or held themselves accountable to stick to eating right post…

Good morning everyone, I have been reading forums for a couple of months now and decided to finally create and account and post my status. I started the process of seeking bariatric surgery in November of 2016. At that time I had my 1st supervised diet appt. as well. My insurance requires 3 months of a supervised diet (4 visits) and finished my last diet visit in Feb. In February, 2017 I had my consultation with the surgeon, and nutritionist appt. On March 1st I had my Psychological evaluation and on the 3rd I had the psychological testing done. So now, I am waiting for approval from the Psychologist as she stated it could take 7-10 days to get the results back…

Hi there I'm one week from my surgery and really only struggling with one thing... I am a TERRIBLY mentally dependent on diet coke/coke zero. I have to a day and am literally counting the days I still can drink them....that sounds so bad I know. I guess I'm just curious and looking for some encouragement. Has anyone totally lost their desire for diet coke after surgery?

Hi all, I just wanted to share my accidental discovery: 2 scoops (or one pack) Bariatric fusion Mint chocolate Ice Cream flavor 6-8 oz milk (I used regular skim milk, but I'm sure soy or almond milk would work too) 1 tablespoon Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate cocoa powder (unsweetened) shake or blend and enjoy! Note: My husband said you definitely have to like dark chocolate in order to like the flavor. I don't think it tastes that dark, but then again, I love dark chocolate!

I have several friends that have already had surgery and I am so close to getting all my approvals back and setting the date...(I can't wait) I've been really good without much exception in following my diet and doing all that my team has asked of me. I quit smoking cold turkey on Jan 1st. I gave up sodas and caffeine (gosh I miss my starbucks)...butit really hasn't been too difficult. My friend tells me that if I don't have a food funeral that I am risking slipping back after the surgery... that it is better to pick day and eat a little off all the things I will miss and say goodbye to them rather than deprive myself and freak out somewhere after the surgery. …

As each day passes and my surgery grows closer, I think of how my life will change. I wonder what will it be like to eat to live instead of living to eat. What will I do instead of eating? What do I look forward to if I am not eating? I have built my life around eating. Vacation meals will no longer be a focus point. Family gatherings will be for the family instead of the food at the gatherings. Wednesday night Mexican with my daughter will be just for my daughter instead of what I am going to be eating. Thanksgiving and Christmas will be strange. Sorry folks, just thinking out loud! I hope I can do this!

I have my surgical consult next week so I'm still new. I am ready to be healthy and stop yo yo dieting. I have made great changes in lifestyle in the past, given up sugary food, for example. I like bread and chocolate and ice cream. I am 38 years old and should not have this relationship with food!! I get scared about the surgery because what if I eat something bad after. I know dumping can occur which may be a big deterrent. But will my constant thinking about food and giving in to that childish want, go away?!

After being frustrated with the surgeons office, I took some advice given to me in this forum. I called the office and asked where my case stood. The girl I talked to was clueless about any of it. So, I asked to speak to the manger. I was transferred to her office and she let me know what was going on. She stated to me, yet again, I need to wait for medical clearance! I was like, you're kidding me right? I told her all my prerequisites have been done since 2/27/17. She pulled my chart and said I should have been cleared weeks ago! She said she would personally give the surgeon my chart and get me cleared. I waited 2 days to call back and left a voice mail for the man…
