I am going through the bariatric pilot program it's a 6 months program. If approved I will be eligible for surgery in July. I have been looking at Saline Memorial Bariatric Center for gastric sleeve.

I went to an introductory seminar at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs in Feb and to a consultation with the surgeon early in Mar. I've got my appointments scheduled, started my 1500 calorie diet. The surgeon said my insurance has approved the surgery; he said I can expect to have the surgery in August.

Was there a wait period with your insurance? I am nervous about the out of pocket cost. My deductible is $1000 and max out of pocket is $3500 which includes the $1000. My insurance company said some are willing to let you pay it out but others want the full amount upfront.

Yes, the surgeon says my insurance company requires a 6-month waiting period. I guess thats to ensure all teats are completed, trial diet is adhered to, and gives patient time to understand procedures and be ready for the changes. I was told medicare covers the cost. And, in other cases, gives people time to arranging payment.

I'v been doing a lot of research to prepare myself for what's about to come.

Have you read the book The Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve: Everything You Need to Know to Lose Weight and Live Well with the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy? There is really a lot of helpful info there.
