Hi this is my first post. I started on my journey October 5, 2016. Im probably having my surgery around end of April - beginning of May. I still have some tests to do and I have to see the Bariatric Psychiatrist 2 times before surgery. Then my dr will give me a date for surgery. Im so excited and scared at the same time. My dr hasn't put me on a diet yet but id like to start now. Can anyone suggest a preop diet that isnt liquid? The only thing I have found are the liquid diets that are 3-4 weeks prior to surgery. I use stevia in my chilled herbal teas. Will it be ok to use this after RNY surgery? I like it because it helps to have variety not just plain Water. Any advice is welcome! Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  4. I am struggling with telling people what I am doing in some ways I'm embarrassed, I feel people judge me and think I should just stop eating and exercise but don't really understand the struggles I go through! And to make it worse I work at a hospital and I'm having the surgery done at my hospital! I haven't told anybody but obviously my coworkers know somethings going and will eventually know exactly what's happening. My surgery is scheduled for January 25! My stress and anxiety is through the roof Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello! My name is Colleen. I am at the very beginning of my journey to a healthier me! I started on 11/22/16 with my PCP for my 3 month supervised diet for my insurance. I weighed in at 258.8 lbs. My highest weight was 268.0 lbs. I then had my next appointment on 12/22/16 and weighed in at 244.0 lbs. This surprised me for the better. I will have my next appointment on or after 1/22/17. And I see my surgeon for the first time on 1/30/17. Of course that can't get here fast enough! I know I will have a ton of preop tests and that is fine. I know with each day I am closer to a healthier me. I'm just here to introduce myself and get familiar with the site. I need…

I thought I was doing really well because I have done all my pre-surgery requirements so far with no problem. All I have left is my final pre-op surgery consult (coming up Tuesday, January 17th) and to do my liver shrinking diet until the day before surgery. (I started the diet yesterday, and have 11 more days of it to go). The diet is supposed to help battle hunger by having me ingest something every 3 hours from 730-730 every day. But I find that I'm already struggling on day 2 of the diet... I'm still responsible for cooking for my family every night, and for feeding my eight year old all day on the weekends when he has no school... and i never noticed before, but O…

Ok so this is going to seem super silly. I just found this app last night and hoping if anyone can ease my fears it's people going through the same thing. I have this irrational fear that what if I do this, what if I make this drastic change and it does me no good? What if I don't lose weight? What if I feel the same? This is completely irrational I know. I have several people that I'm close with and alot more that have had it and changed for the better. Why is this still running through my mind. I have gotten better about it. Now Ijust ready more than anything. However that small fear is still there. Please tell me I'm not alone in this? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A …

I was told to get the Atkins advantage shakes for my pre op liquid diet. I have read everywhere that premium protein is the best tasting so I checked and premium shakes have 160 calories, and 60 grams of protein, 1gram sugar, and 5 carbs, Atkins has 150 calories , 15 grams of protein, 1gram sugar, 1 gram net carbs. They said I could use another product as long as they had same components of the Atkins, and I'm getting 30 grams of protein with premium. I've heard it tastes good which is why I bought premium, can anyone tell me if I am doing the right thing ?

Hi, I haven't seen any info on this. I have severe anxiety/fear of flying. I have taken Xanax when flying for probably the last 10 years. Considering I live in Alaska and have to get surgery in another state, I am wondering if I will be able to take the Xanax when flying home, 4 weeks post surgery. Does anyone know if this is an okay med to take after surgery? I will of course talk to my surgeon about it, but any info I can have before would be helpful. Thanks!

Hey guys my surgery date is Dec 27th. I was ordered to start my liquid diet the 13th , today is the 19th and I'm finally fully sticking with it. I had some issues in the beginning, where instead of one bowl of Soup a day; I would eat two a day etc. Not cheating bad but cheating is still cheating. I'm here to tell you after 2 / 3 days on it, it honestly does get so so so much easier. I'm doing great now on only two Protein shakes a day & one serving of soup. I looked for a discussion about PRE op diets everywhere on here it feels like and couldn't find one.. so I just wanna tell anyone who's reading this, you've got it! i am waiting for my bypass surgery date. i recently read that 90% bypass patients end up in the hospital at one point due complications. is it true? i know complications can and do happen, but its still a scary statement. I am 31, my bmi is 41.8, h-5f 7in, i have pcos but otherwise no comorbidities. I wanted to have the sleeve but my surgeon told me that the bypass is a better option for me. he claims that 20% sleevers don't get the results they want and the bypass has better long term results. He says the risks are the same for both, its just half hour longer procedure. My surgeon has a lot of experience and has done over 1500 gastric bypass surgeries. So how come the sl…
