I have BCBSNC. My policy covers the surgery, I've read over requirements and have found tons of information What I'm not completely sure of is my out of pocket expenses I know my deductible and my out of pocket limit, are those amounts combined for me to pay or is the out of pocket limit what I need to pay? I have yet to make an appointment, trying to cover a lot of ground before I get my hopes up Hope my question makes sense, I'm a bit confused :/ lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My PCP had referred me to my surgeons office in October after my physical. I have finished all of my qualifications for my surgeons office: bloodwork, echo, ekg, endoscopy, and a psych letter. The last thing I need before my meeting with the surgeon on Monday was a letter of clearance from my pcp which I requested about a week ago. I called today to check in and they informed me that I need a preoperative appointment with them, and i agreed. They then wouldn't schedule me without orders for blood work from my surgeon. But my surgeon has already done all of his extensive blood work!!! So confused on what is actually needed for this letter of clearance!! Sent from my SM-G…

I go for my surgery on the 19th...I had a ventral hernia repair with mesh in 2010. My surgeon said that might be a problem, he has to see if he can get under it. Has anyone had a gastric sleeve after previous hernia surgery?

hey everyone! I was wondering if any of you have gotten the single incision vsg? If not, would you much prefer that one over your multiple incision one? I have the choice of either and am wanting the single incision, however, I fear about the increased chance of a hernia.

I am schedule to have my sleeve around 2:30. I'm quite emotional because I am here by myself. My husband is at work and the kids get out of school around that time so it made sense for him to tend to them since I will be spending the night. My dad dropped me off at the hospital but because I choose to only tell my husband about the surgery, he didn't stay. So much going on in my head right now and tears watering my eyes. Praying for all those going through surgery today. I don't question my decision about not telling anyone. The emotions are for the unknown that I will face in a couple of hours and moving forward. This was something my grandfather use to say to me growing up. I keep reminding myself this when I start to become scared about having the surgery. I am still waiting to hear back from my surgeons office on what surgery would be best for me to have (Bypass or Sleeve) considering some medicines that I have to take. Then reading some post about the pain and suffering from having one or the other during recovery. But I always fall to sleep at night thinking about the transformation of the butterfly. Then I realize that I'm ready to shed this cocoon and live a healthy and full life. Both of my grandmothers lived to see 90! One past away at 92 and the other is still …

Hello all!!! I started my actual weight loss journey in September 2017 but debated about it for over a year. I have researched everything, and still researching. I just finished my last nutrition class today and now hoping to get a surgery date. In my research I have heard and read that the first two weeks after surgery are the worst. I have high anxiety about going under, and now even more anxiety about post op. Can anyone share their post op experiences. I read one person cried everyday, some people said it was hell. Does anyone think their post op was not as bad as being described. It doesn't matter b/c I'm moving forward because I'm on a mission, but it will definitel…

I have my initial consult next week. I will be self pay in Washington state. (Anyone in the same boat, please message me). I am 5' 8" 245. I have been miserable for years. I don't think I'm scared of surgery or recovery. I think I am scared of what happens if I "miss" the food or if I can't be "me" in a new (thinner) body. I want so badly to be healthy and fit, to be comfortable and confident in new skin. I'm just scared of all the change. Does that sound dumb? Does anyone know how long between initial consult and scheduled surgery for self pay? I'm SO ready, but SO worried about the "after" issues....Any help is seriously appreciated!!! Ok this sounds so silly - hoping to get sleeved in 2017! Insurance covers so starting those steps...I've had 2 babies via c-section but STILL scared of needles I know it's all part of the process and it's nothing that will inhibit me from pursuing surgery...ugh...just wish I could get over this fear. Y'all, today I finished the online teaching module, recently I did the psychiatric evaluation, all of my blood work and upper gi xray results were sent to my surgeon, my medical clearance from my pcp was sent. I've lost 35lbs in 4 weeks (of the 25-40 my surgeon requested) I updated my next appointment date from the 13th to the 11th and that is likely going to be the date we make the decision when the surgery is which is likely gonna be within the 2 weeks after that. I've got loose fitting clothes ready, I've got slip on shoes, I bought a bunch of lip balm and have a bunch of coconut oil to moisturize. I have 2oz freezer cups to prepare some foods ahead of time. I bought a…

My surgery is Jan 10. My Dr only has us do a 3 day liquid diet before surgery. I see a lot of yous have to do weeks. Yikes. I'm super nervous on how I'll feel when I wake up emotionally. Called my insurance company today... and was told that my case is still pending and has been since the 21st. I was also told to call back in a few days for the answer of if I am approved or not. I have united healthcare. My BMI is well over 40. I know I'll probably be approved, but I can't help but prepare myself for a big fat no I need to calm my nerves, but right now I don't know if that is possible. My insurance company sent me the weight loss policy. I was reading through it and it stated that I must complete 6 months of a physicians supervised diet and a 3 month pre-surgical multidisciplinary preparatory program as well? Im confused, what is the difference between the two, they require exactly the same things except 1 is 6 months and the other is 3 months? Will I have to complete both of these programs? I included a screenshot of the policy.

I have my first meeting with my surgeon on Monday for this go-round (I looked into surgery last year but backed because I didn't feel ready). I'm just as nervous as the first time I met him! I know I'm going to have to explain why I changed my mind and then changed it back...I have "good" answers to that - I just started nursing school, which is a huge, added stressor, plus my mother got very ill and I had to take care of her during the time I would have been having my operation last year. Still jittery, though...wish me luck!

Hi guys, OK so we have four classes to attend over 8 weeks before we see the surgeon and I'm wondering if different people/surgeons and countries have similar set ups before surgery happens. Glasgow where I live is one of the toughest programmes in Scotland to get access too and I'm part of a last group who has a chance of surgery without required diabetes. I had my very first consult with my surgeon last week. I LOVED HIM! He probably spent an hour or better just chatting with me about the surgery, benefits, complications, expectations, etc. It was a wonderful visit! That being said.... there is SO MUCH MORE paperwork and red tape and hoops to jump through than I ever imagined. I am a nurse so I have an insight to how insurance rules the world, but I had no idea!! For example, my insurance requires me to show proof of being followed by my family doctor for 6 months for weight loss.... Ok, no problem, we've got that. The catch is, it has to be 6 consecutive months, which I don't have, because my doc would see me and then say…

Hey everyone! I'm getting banded bright and early Tuesday morning and I can't wait. One thing I have been wondering is how many of you experienced extreme hunger during the first weeks before getting a fill since there's is no saline in the band at first? Also, I take two medications (wellbutrin and adderall) on a daily basis. Will i be allowed to swallow them or am i going to need to crush them up or something since i can't have "solids" for 3 weeks? Ok. I have become extremely irritated! I successfully completed my 6 month, physician monitored, diet program only to be told... I NEED TO LOSE 20% OF MY STARTING WEIGHT! Here's why it is frustrating: Continually, I verified with my surgeon that I would not have a specific amount of weight to lose. Over and over I asked him and always received the same "No, your insurance doesn't require it" for an answer. That excited me in the beginning. I was using the 6 months as a tool to ween off of all the stuff that has helped make and keep me fat(Carbonated beverages - Coca Cola specifically, sugar, excess carbs and CIGARETTES) as well as increasing healthier foods and beverages…
