Should WLS patient check in continuously with a therapist, psychologist, or life coach post op? *****I think initially we dive right into this surgery and hope for the best. We follow the doctor's order and lose the weight. However, the very reason we are at this point is because our mindful eating habits have been controlling us. The surgery will fix the outside appearance but, what about the inside?***** Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

Hi you all, well I spent the last three day re starting my pre opp diet 3 times. I go Jan 12 for surgery. I was in the grocery store buying my liquid food when midnight struck at the checkout. I have everything I need to be successful now, I think? This is really it, it 2017. The journey begins, I have so much hope for this to work and my life changed forever. I never had a skinny time in my life. I been 100+ pounds over weight since I was 16. I'm 45 now. Just like many of you if wasn't without trying. I spent these past 11 years living and working overseas in Kathmandu helping woman get rescued from sex trafficking. It's a third world country and no fast food restauran…

Hi All, I am excited to announce my insurance approved my surgery yesterday 12/30/2016. I have researched and attempted to have Bariatric surgery years ago. The insurance I had denied me because of paper work and it was so frustrating working with hospitals that had wayyy too many patients and the patient advocates were never available and did not return phone calls so I gave up. In 2002 I had my youngest son so in the years after I was too scared to undergo surgery and risk complications with my baby being so young. Now he is 14 and Bariatric surgery has been done successfully well before he was born and I am more educated about it. I believe these years have given…

Finishing my 18 requires health classes, got through almost all my dr visits, need psych and Endoscopy, but getting excited. My dr wants 3 weeks liver shrink, I'll get details in Jan on diet. But with just the classes so far, I'm 15 lbs down. Nervous about after and hoping my post op vision for myself is realistic. Started at 368, down to 353, goal is somewhere about 200. What I am most looking forward to is being able to be active and move again. I want to do spartan runs and Ragnar runs, I hope that is realistic. Here's to hope! 2/23 seems so far away, and I guess I'm focusing on the food right now, thinking things like "this will be my last big thanksgiving, or l…

I needed a place to vent and this is the only place i can think of to do it. Sorry in advance. Today I called my insurance company (Cigna) to see what the medical director determined about my approval/denial. They denied my claim based on the I had 63 days of nutritional visits instead of 89 days whatever that means. I went to the nutritionist once in August, once in September and once in October. I went for 90 consecutive days, I did my 3 visits. Also, something about medically observed visits, what is that? The customer service representative can't tell me exactly what is necessary to get an approval. I would like to if I need to start this process over again or…

Hello! First I'd like to say thank you for reading! I've been looking into WLS for over a year and finally with the support of my family have decided it is the right option for me. I called my insurance company to ask what the requirements for approval are thinking I'd have to see a nutritionist for a few months etc... but the only thing they told me was if I had a BMI of 40 or more all I would need is a referral from my doctor. Has anyone else experienced this? Seems to good to be true. Plus I rarely ever get sick so I don't have a regular physician I'd be making an appointment with a doctor for the first time to discuss weight loss I don't have a "medical" history of s…

I'm having surgery in the am. I asked my mom to help me a few weeks ago. On Friday she decides to tell me she can't,no reason she just can't. So I find other means for my roses and for my dogs. Tonight one of my friends watching my dogs, after only having my 18wk old puppy for 2hrs, messagese bitching about how often the dog goes to the bathroom. So now I have to find someone to watch my dog between now and 8am tomorrow morning because the same friend wants to drop me off 2hrs early in case of traffic. FML

Well its my Surgery Eve and im sittng in my hotel room in San Diego wondering why i cant find much about my surgeon on Bariatric Pal. His name is Luis Cervantes my procedure is @ Hospital Guadalajara in Tijuana Mexico tomorro 12/15 @ 1pm , after blood work, ekg, etc, All of his review are on his website, which I'm not 100% confident with because I am a website owner and reviews can be manipulated! Im doing this all alone, no support team, except back home in Dallas tx where they all disagreed with me going to Mexico to do this procedure. I was sucessful with stopping smokiing 2 weeks before surgery but have not been sucessfull with the 2wk liquid diet, i thought the …

Just wondering if there are any February 2017 sleevers here yet? I have my 3 month weight check on Monday and was told last month we will look at surgery dates and to plan for a date in February. I'm still struggling with not drinking while I eat but once I catch myself I stop but geesh you wouldn't think I would still be reaching for something to drink at this point. I've been told to make sure I get 21-26 gms of Protein with each meal, only 3 meals no Snacks in between meal and drink plenty of Water. I have a hard time finding a variety of protein meals as I don't do fish other than tuna and only eat pork, beef and chicken. I do the Premiere Protein shakes that have 30 …

I honestly wish I would've kept this decision a secret from everyone but my immediate family...so much negativity....I can't deal. All I wanted was support and instead I got people questioning my decision and telling me what they feel I need and don't need. And it's truly frustrating and irritating because I'm going to do what I want regardless but all the negativity is coming out impact this journey negatively and I don't need or want it. I can't even talk to one of bff because they don't approve. ✌✌✌ Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Hello all... I am new to the group. I'm almost 3 months into my pre-op, with a sleep study scheduled for next week. I have been stressing over my insurance approval. My BMI is 37, and my surgeon says I'll need my sleep study to show sleep apnea to qualify. He seemed confident about that. Although high blood pressure and diabetes run rampant in my family, I don't have either of these. I do have a history of yo-yo weight loss, depression & asthma, and previous high blood pressure. Has anyone had difficulty getting approved with a lower than 40 BMI? Or just the opposite, gotten approved no problem? I have Anthem BC/BS. [emoji4]

It's been so long it's hard to recognize hunger pains..but I do appear to be getting them. I thought we wouldn't feel hunger for a while. I am also not able to eat my normal 3 oz..my stomach feels uneasy and getting a dull aching pain when I eat. I'm 5 weeks out and this is new for me..never had any problems or intolerances except with the Protein shakes..anyone else experience this? I'm thinking of going back to liquid diet if it continues. I don't enjoy eating right now anyway because it's started to feel uncomfortable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I've been lurking and reading for the past few months. Just taking in all of the wonderful information and guidance from this site. I starting this journey back in August and have recently been approved for my VSG surgery. My date is 2/20/17!! So far, with guidance, I've been able to lose 34 pounds. I am so very excited. With that excitement comes anxiety and fear, but the excitement outweighs those emotions. I live in Vermont with my husband and daughter. My family is very supportive of me which is a blessing as I move forward. I have to say, when I feel discouraged, or even a bit lost, i always come back to this site to read and learn from those that are so much more …

Hi All, I started this process back in October. My fiancé and family have been super supportive! I have amazing insurance which covers surgery at 100% but requires a whole bunch of pre op testing including 4 weeks of consecutive nutritional meetings which I start on 1/26. I hoping for a March 2017 surgery date! I am so ready for this! What are some things you found challenging during your process? I'm feeling hopeful that things will go smoothly from here on out! Hi everyone, since I've been posting I thought I would introduce myself. I'm a 37 year old mom and wife. My stats HW: 269. I just weighed myself this morning and I'm at 248. My surgery is at 7:30 tomorrow morning! I have to be there at 5:30. I'm anxious and excited and experiencing so many unexpected emotions. I'm usually cool as a cucumber. My clear liquid diet is going. I'm so light headed that I'm forced to just plop my butt on the couch. I'm having terrible muscle cramps in my calves, but I'm drinking tons of Fluid. I can't keep my meds or Vitamins down so I'm thankful I only had 2 days of this nonsense. Hoping my SW is around 245. Anywho, thanks for reading and I …

Two years ago I had my body fat percentage taken with calipers and a BIA when I weighed 386. My results surprised me but I am still skeptical of those readings. My caliper test came in at 23% with 86lbs of fat and the BIA scale came in at 24%. I'm wanting to know if anyone my size has been able to fill out any loose skin where it's not that noticeable?

Hey all, so I was approved yesterday {Yay} [emoji119] [emoji122] [emoji1] and it took me forever to get in touch with my case manager today to find out she needed to call bcbsil and confirm although I told her I had the authorization number and that she couldn't even set the date, that she would have to forward everything to my patient advocate. To which I emailed letting him know know that I was approved including my authorization number in the email and stating that I would like a January date. I'm getting irritated because I'm trying to get a job at state farm and the training is 2 months so I can't take off. I really wanted a January date to start my new years off r…

My surgeons office insurance specialist said that AETNA insurance would not allow me to go through the "normal" DesPeres (Excellence center) Hospita or DePaul Hospital WLS doctors (dietician / behavior therapist etc) like most of their patients due to their restrictions they wanted much higher qualified docs (such as an eating disorders psychologist) etc etc / I was hoping to find a very recently approved sleever in St. Louis who has AETNA to get their list of all doctors used that got them approved . I know it's a long shot but I'm not sure where to go - my a Surgeon is Dr Minkin - one of the best in Missouri . Thanks.

Welp, the monthly support forum has not been updated for 2016. I know there's a thread somewhere for December & January sleevers, but thought I'd include you January peeps in honor of the upcoming year. Share your dates, doctor/nut/psych visits, tests, hopes, and whatever else you want to share pertaining to your surgery. Feel free to offer encouragement and cheerleading as warranted. Maybe everyone can link up with some sleeve buddies! I'll start. I have 100 to 130 pounds to lose (no goal set yet). My sleeve was supposed to be in January. Instead, my husband needs to go out of the country on business in the middle of the month and can't guarantee he'll be back, so …
